The ice cream was delicious (I had the caramel sea salt). But what made an especially big impression on me was that when I explained that I am very allergic to peanuts and tree nuts, they went and washed a scoop to avoid cross contamination and even opened a new container of the ice cream. I ordered caramel-pretzel ice cream that was "freezer burned" and "gummy" which means that it's probably been there a while. My family drove from Seaside because nothing is open on Tuesday's in Seaside in the winter. I should've returned it but didn't notice until after my first bite and then went back to look at the container it was scooped from. My suspicion was confirmed. It was so obvious that I was kinda mad at myself for not paying closer attention. Either way that's bad business. I get that it's off-season but come on, that's gross. Edited March 8. You know you're in a tourist town when you see a gift shop that sells trinkets, t-shirts and souvenirs. There's nothing wrong with that-in fact, that's part of the fun of browsing stores in a tourist town. If you're looking for something to take home to the kids, or some toys to keep them entertained at the beach for the day, you'll probably find something here. If you're not looking for souvenirs, but more interested in a treat, you can find that here as well. There's an ice cream counter that if fully stocked with many different flavors. There are also cookies, if that's more your preference. Service is friendly-we got our treats quickly and with a smile. Then we sat outside on the benches in the shade to enjoy them. read more

Ice cream and beach trips go hand in hand. And for years I've wandered a block off Hemlock and walked into this location. Only I'm pretty sure it was a completely different business six months ago. Instead of hand scooped delights, they just offer vanilla and chocolate soft serve. And I do enjoy a good soft serve, but for me it is a substitution for real ice cream. Come on, we're like 40 miles from Tillamook. I want my Brown Cow and Chocolate Peanut Butter! The soft serve and coffee bar seem to be more of an afterthought in this business. They have lots of touristy trinkets so it is a hodgepodge of stuff, none of it fantastic. Note to self: Find new ice cream shop in Cannon Beach. read more

I avoid formally writing bad reviews, and I only do so when an experience is so negative that it truly warrants it. Came here for ice cream with our family and after paying for our scoops, found one of ours (the rocky road) was not good. It tasted old - the nuts were gummy - and I politely let them know and asked if they would replace it with a different scoop. The manager flatly told me "no", I would need to purchase another scoop if I wanted something else. Having worked in service for years, I was shocked... threw away my scoop and told them this. Regretting not checking yelp or TripAdvisor first, where I would have seen that they are ranked dead last on T.A. - #28 of 28 places to eat - in Cannon Beach. We did find some small items to take back with us like magnets and key chains (and a kite priced cheaper than the other stores). Stopped here for ice cream with our two kiddos after a day at the beach. The older white man behind the counter rolled his eyes and was nasty with the kids because they were excited to pick a flavor. My kids are 6 and 4 years old. I will never again stop at this place and we have frequented it plenty in the past. I've never been impressed with the customer service but today was over the top awful. I would have walked out and gone elsewhere, it's not like the ice cream is anything special, but there was nothing else open. Shame on these employees! Your business depends on people being excited for your products! And by the way, earlier in the day we spent money here on t shirts and sunglasses. I rarely write YELP reviews but needed to at this establishment. We came here to get some food for our kids hotdogs and grilled cheese . When the kids tasted the hotdogs they said gross , we tasted as well and it was putrid . When we asked to return it and have a grilled cheese instead we were told no and then mocked in front of other customers . Other customers were so put off by their reaction that they walked out of the store. My guess is that since this is a tourist town they don't care about customer service since there are very few repeat customers . read more

They offer to put a "scoop" of ice cream in it and the girl put about two teaspoons of ice cream for a 16oz smoothie. Had a poor experience with their store today while out shopping.. My wife changed her mind after buying a sweatshirt (wives do that) While I understand that a store has the right to not except returns, the gal behind the register was very short with me and when I asked if their policy was posted any where, she pointed at the register. I had to move merchandise to be able to see their very small sign. If you have a policy limiting returns to only exchanges, do your customers a service and point it out at the time of sale. Find a different place to get ice cream! Stopped here after a wonderful day at the beach and a great dinner at Tom's Fish. We were a large crowd, 10 in all. The owner, a middle aged blonde women, was very rude to us. She was impatient and obviously annoyed with the size of our group. Her comments and body language were very disrespectful. She rolled her eyes at us, sighed loudly, and spoke very sharply to each of us. When she rang up our order, she included 2 more cones than people in our party. When she was questioned about the total she got very angry and yelled at us and her employees that "the order was to complicated and she couldn't be expected to remember all of it." To simplify the order, I had offered to pay the maximum price for each cone, regardless of the order, but I did want to only pay for the correct number of cones. There is no excuse to treat people the way we were treated at Chillin At The Beach. This town survives on the memories made on vacation. This business owner is hurting the entire community. Next time, my family will visit a different beach town. read more

What a Terrible place to bring your family. We were on a family vacation with 3 sisters and all our kids so 10 total and stopped here for ice cream. It was the worst service I have ever had. The owner rolled her eyes at us the second we walked in the door. Then she was clearly annoyed when the kids started to ask for a sample of the ice cream and yelled at them to keep the spoons. The owner has two other employees working with her that she yelled at the whole time. Once it was time to pay she charged us for 11 ice creams. I said there is only 10 of us and one of us didn't get any. At that point she rolled her eyes again and started telling me they can't keep track with all these people. Then started yelling at her employees in front of the 10 of us that they needed to write down what they did. We all felt so uncomfortable at that point. When I told her I was going to leave a bad review on yelp they all laughed. After reading the other reviews I know why. This isn't the first terrible review and won't be the last. I'm guessing they have changed their name multiple time because of the reviews which is why they don't show up when you search the area in Yelp or google maps. Worst experience ever. read more

If I could I would give this shop 0 stars. We normally go to Osburn's for ice cream though this little gift shop happened to be closer in distance to where I was parked yesterday. I was alone with my 2 1/2 year old daughter, she wanted bubble gum flavored ice cream and she was looking forward to it. When the young girl handed our ice cream, I tried mine first and noticed that the bubble gum ice cream at this shop has actual gum balls in it. Some children may like the gum balls in their ice cream but my 2 1/2 year old is too young for gum balls and can choke on these gum balls. I kindly asked the young girl and I explained I didn't realize this ice cream had gum balls in it (Osburn's makes a great bubble gum flavored ice cream without the gum balls). I told the girl that I don't want my daughter to choke, I asked if she can switch out my daughter's ice cream for something else? Though the young girl said, I don't think I can". I than turned to the older lady that appeared to be a manager; I again explained the situation and kindly asked if she can make a 1 time exception and swap out the bubble gum for something else as I don't want my little girl to choke on the gum balls.. all the older lady had to say was, "WHY WOULD I DO THAT?". I was baffled and I like was like, oh wow!! The lady than offered me a paper cup to pick out the gum balls??? Really lol i didn't know that a scoop of ice cream can break their bank. This woman must not have kids. I was baffled by her rudeness and nastyness. I walked out the shop, chucked out the ice cream and went to Osburn's ice cream shop. I was immediately kindly greeted by the man behind the counter. When it was my turn to order to order the bubble gum flavored ice cream, I had to share my bad experience that I had at this gift/ Java ice cream shop.. the young girl at Osburn's looked surprised by my experience. This young girl from Osburn's then smiled and said that my daughter's bubble gum flavored ice cream is on the house! The Osburn's ice cream shop did not have to do that but WOW, so kind of them. My family will NEVER come back to this gift/Java shop again. read more
