On thus trip I talked to the owner as I was paying and told him how good everything was and how far we drove and had to drive home. Oscar is his name and is a great guy. As I was paying he fiddled with the register and as he gave me my change he slipped me a gift card. I was kinda taken back a little and we talked a little more then I went back to the table to finish our coffee to get ready to leave. I got to say the staff here is spot on. Never did we want for anything. The food was great and coffee was delicious. So we pack up the kids and go out to the cars to transfer bags and luggage when I turn around and here comes Oscar the owner. Evidently I dropped the card he had given me. With Q'doba being my first place visited on my Travel List, it seems fitting to share for those who don't know. The year was 2011. The location was my job. The setting was boredom. My train of thought wandered to how I haven't seen a lot of the things to see in Chicago and St. Louis. I started a list of things to do those cities and fast forward 8+ years and I've been to 550+ unique places. Q'doba has the distinction of being the first. Cassey, Danielle, Tim, Matt and I made dinner plans shortly after the start of the new year and to start off my traveling adventures. We descended upon Q'doba with no idea what fun was to be had this evening. We all approached the counter and Danielle had to help me order as I was completely new to the experience. Oh, how innocent and clueless I was back then. Still am clueless but better at ordering food at restaurants. It took awhile for all of us to get through the food assembly line as it was mostly a new experience for us all and it was dinner time. Once we had our food, we sat down and the shenanigans began. This was a night to remember. Or try to remember 8 years later. As we sat there and ate our food, we told many jokes, riffed on each other and laughed until our faces and sides hurt. I have some videos that I recorded from this dinner but those are a bit more personal than I would like to share. Trust me when I said it was a fun group having maximum fun. Enough of that. How was the food? It was good! I haven't been back since 2012 but I do remember the food being really good and wondering why I hadn't been there sooner since I drove by and still drive by this place all the time. We had just entered and stepped inside when an employee walked on the prep line looking pissed off to even be there. Eyes narrowed and sharp. I spoke immediately, said, "Hello", and asked him how his day was going. He just stared at us and kept walking. I tried to 2 more times to talk to him to get us to acknowledge us. We were the only ones in there. I turned to my partner and said let's go. As we left two more people entered. If you cannot acknowledge or be friendly to customers supporting the business I don't trust there to be care taken when making my food. Regulating mood and emotion is highly important in food service, honestly customer service in general. Prices have skyrocketed since 2020,making things 3x as high if not higher and QUALITY as well as quantity have diminished at almost equals rates. Consumers are more thoughtful where spending their money because of this. Hire employees who understand service and the importance of attitude. They are the face of the business while you are away and have equal power in destroying it as they do building it, if you hire those who the service industry is not a good fit for.
