    The beginning of the tour.

We brought our two kiddos to the ranch for their U-Pick. It was our first time apple picking and it was just lovely. Mike greeted us at the parking lot with a warm welcome, then directed us down the hill to the farmhouse area. There we were able to sample several varieties of the apples in the orchard. Before we got started, we were treated to a tour of the farm - we walked through the beautiful garden Sally has lovingly nurtured filled with flowers, fruit and vegetables. Then we visited the chickens and the kids even got to go into the coop and meet the cute little junior chicks and see where the eggs are laid. We ended the tour with a chance for the kids to feed the sheep - they all had a blast. And this was before we even started picking apples. They have so many interesting apple varieties that you won't find in the supermarket. They point you in the right direction so you know which ones are ripe and ready to pick. Just be sure not to take a bit in the orchard because that may attract wasps and yellow jackets. Afterwards you can try your hand at the apple press and maybe even taste some fresh cider. They also had local friends offering olive oil, farm fresh eggs, and cheese for sale. So fun! We will definitely be back. Thank you Sally, Mike and your family and friends for your hospitality!

We came out in the early fall for some apple picking, and called ahead to see if we needed any kind of reservation. The lady on the phone was nice and said we could just show up, so we did. The grounds At Chileno Valley Ranch are beautiful! What a lovely place. Unfortunately, the apple orchard was overrun with yellow jackets. I'm not talking a few, I'm talking swarms. Part of the orchard was completely cordoned off, and the other part was still a little dicey. We grabbed some apples and ran. It wasn't exactly the leisurely, fun-filled apple picking experience I had imagined. Upside: the apples were delicious. I made a very nice pie from them. My young son really wanted to see the cows, goats and chickens, so we wandered around doing that for a while. There was some sort of tour in progress, and I wish we'd been told about the possibility of a tour on the phone because my kiddo would have loved actually going in the animal enclosures, as the people on the tour were getting to do. I asked someone if we might be able to join the tour, and was told maybe, not sure, perhaps later, but then there didn't seem to be another tour later. We finally just left, because my son was getting upset that other kids were getting to collect chicken eggs and pet goats right in front of him, but he couldn't join in. I don't think there was any malice here, just disorganization. It was disappointing, and I wish we'd been given even the slightest bit of information about what was going on at the ranch when I called them on the phone. They could have mentioned the yellow jackets and the timing of tours. I would give this place another shot, because it's so pretty, and clearly family-owned and operated, but I would want to be very sure that the yellow jacket problem had been resolved before visiting again.

Friendly staff for apple picking. Apples are good. The trees are short so it's easy for littles to pick the apples.

This ensures a positive experience for both parties and prevents overstimulation. During the tour, the animals are placed in a smaller pens so they can come up to interact but even then, there's plenty of room for them to choose not to come up. After the tours, the larger animals have access to larger acres of land to roam and run. Our guides are knowledgeable and great at interacting with guests of all ages. They ensured everyone had a safe, fun, and educational time. The tour brings you into one full loop and ends at the parking lot which is pretty convenient. At the end of the tour, we got to a choose a calendar to take home. Overall, highly recommend to book a tour and come visit. We had an incredible time learning and interacting with the animals.

Cons: - I would have loved learning more about the animals, we were only provided information when we asked questions 1:1 with tour guide.

While they sell discounted tickets for kids 5-12 and kids under 5 are free, we and all the other families there found the tour to be a real struggle for our little ones. We all felt a little misled about the experience based on the online description. It's a lot of standing very still (in rooms with equipment that shouldn't be contaminated by guests, or next to equipment that has cow poop on it), listening to the owner talk for long stretches. We expected more movement around the farm and time outdoors, instead of something closer to a lecture with a large group in tight spaces. It also ran over time (to 2 hours!) ending with a nice close up visit with the cows and some small cheese samples. We did really enjoy meeting the cows and learning the details of how cheese making works. It is a real labor of love. I think there's a lot of potential here; the Achadinha tour has all the ingredients for an awesome visit but could use some editing. This tour could easily be 30 minutes, an hour tops. We would've liked to stay and buy some cheese but by 1pm we were all starving and fled to find lunch elsewhere. Other parents shared they would've had a great time there on a date, but definitely wouldn't go with small kids again. I'll also flag that they require you to step through a decontamination footbath to go inside the facilities. There were a lot of miserable people in sandals who had to get their feet wet in the chemicals. Closed toed shoes that can get wet recommended for this tour.

We were very worried about having a March wedding with the weather being so unpredictable in the springtime, but it was perfect. Sunny skies, 75 degrees, gentle breezes, and a breathtaking sunset to boot. Julia and the team executed everything flawlessly and every guest was in awe about how much of a seamless and personalized experience it was. Inside there is a bar & barrel room, which our couple used for the buffet tables and overflow seating, and then as the dance floor after dinner. The reception area/dining room is pretty small and seats about 50 guests. There were 100 guests at the wedding we attended, so some guests were seated in the reception area, and others were seated in the barrel room. It felt a little disjointed especially since those in the barrel room couldn't see the bride and groom. I'd definitely recommend outdoor seating if over 50 guests, but since this wedding was in November, outdoor seating would have been too cold. This is a great venue for an intimate wedding with a rustic feel.
