I'm going to be honest when I say it was hard for me to give this practice even one star. I have been going to Children's Medical Group since I was a baby and I want to say I finally stopped going around 2019.
I'm now 19 years old and have to say that this doctor's office caused me severe emotional hardship. I want to share my experience because it would deeply sadden me to have another child go through what I did. Not only am I the only one who thinks this way but some acquaintances of mine also went there as children and have felt the same way. What I have noticed is that my male friend does not have anywhere near the same opinions as my female friends who have grown up going there. That right there was one of my red flags. Along with my 33-year-old sister who went there as a child and finally expressed to me she had the same experiences and told my mother multiple times to switch my doctor's office.
I want to start by saying that as a child I understand that crying before going to the doctor's is clearly a very normal thing. Over the years my outbursts became so horrific and out of control that I wouldn't budge when it was time to go, and unfortunately gave my mother and father an extremely difficult time when a physical appointment rolled around.
As I've seen in many of the reviews people have expressed that the receptionist is rude. She was, and I'm assuming still is, a very nasty person. It is extremely disappointing to start off feeling so unwelcomed in a space that at the very least should be appropriately accommodating their patients, and allow them to feel comfortable in an environment that is already far beyond that. Clearly, there were many people who felt the same way and for some reason, they decided to allow her to keep working there, what a shame. I don't want to say that every doctor I encountered there was awful, but it was most. I would deny things I didn't feel comfortable with, and even with the support of my mother was forced regardless. One experience was I never felt comfortable in their medical paper gown. I'm not saying it is a problem for everyone and I don't think it should be, it was just a personal preference. I remember my mom calling and telling them before my appointment that I will NOT be wearing the paper gown. They said it was no problem but when I had arrived there and went into the room without my mother they forced me to wear it anyways after having already said I didn't have to. This may not seem like a huge deal, but to have the doctor tell my mother it was alright and then act as though they never said that when she wasn't around and I had clearly NOT been okay with it, seems wrong. Aside from that seemingly minor incident, I felt as though they never respected my wishes and left me feeling violated and crying at the end of every visit. They treated me as though I was a guinea pig which I thought was what I had made up in my mind. It has seemed that the doctors and receptionists would act justifiably in front of the parents but behind closed doors with no parent present, acted the complete opposite. As a child, I understand it is very simple to believe the adults are against you which is why I stayed quiet about how I felt for quite some time until my friends and sister had brought it up with me.
It seems to be extremely difficult for me to explain exactly all the times they've disrespected or made me feel like an object with no opinion or feelings simply because I am a child. I know there are experiences with ANY doctor that will always make you feel uncomfortable but I've spoken to other doctors who I know I would feel more comfortable with and not feel as though I'm being forced or talked down on. The least they could have done was be kind when I felt uncomfortable rather than make me feel even MORE uncomfortable by treating me as though I had no other option than to do what they were forcing me to. I finally realized I was right for feeling this way and HAD been treated inappropriately when I began to see other doctors who treated me with much more respect even when I was under the age of 18. To this day I still have problems with seeing even the kindest and welcoming doctors because of this, and get overwhelming emotional about the distress this caused me over the years.
I wanted to write this review because I felt that even if people may say they love it there, or that I was a child and was overly sensitive, it is so important that I let other people know so that there is the possibility that no other children have to experience what I and many other people went through. There are so many other GREAT (or even decent) pediatric offices in the area and I would suggest ANY other besides Children's Medical Group! It is hard for the parent to see because they don't behave the same way in front of the parents. Again, my now 33-year-old sister begged my mother not to let me go there when I was young. read more
