Stopped at Chief's in Wauseon and was pleasantly surprised to see their deli counter stocked full of goodies. From sliced meats, many cheeses, to freshly made pasta salads and fruit salads, my cart started filling up. I had a couple subs made at the counter since my hubs prefers a different cheese on his. The woman behind the counter could not have been nicer to fulfil my request. I would not have asked if there had been others in line so hubs was lucky this trip. They also had ready to eat items, stuffed cabbage (as my family calls pigs in the blanket), ribs, mac and cheese. Oh, I almost forgot, egg salad, chicken salad, tuna salad. For some reason going in Chief's feels like stopping by to see a family friend or something. Since this covid uncertainty it is always assuring to smell the fresh popped popcorn when entering, then the smell of fruits, baked chicken, bakery items to name but a few. I so believe they have yummy smell scents piped throughout the store. Their meats are above average and I am picky when it comes to meat. From presentation to prices, Chief's is the place to go. They are offering mobile shopping now, however I have not used it since we enjoy going in and shopping. All of their employees are helpful, safely wearing masks and I always see them sanitizing so it is a very safe, clean and proactive store. read more

Snowing today and there is no customer service. Young girls at the checkout are to busy talking to see if you need help with your groceries. Like their fruit and meat way better than Walmart. Miss seeing Doug at the checkout. The older clerks are way more understanding of seniors in the community. They don't seem to train their check out young people very well. Last time I was there they put everything I bought in one bag. I know I should have said something but just attempted to get it to my car without the bag breaking. read more

I agree with the Jessica, that this place is really the best place to get meat. It's better than walmart in their freshness. I totally love their Rotisserie as well. Although this place is more expensive than Walmart, some people do shop here to keep this place alive as it's competing with Walmart. They have a better alcohol variety than Walmart does. I also like their fresh breads, they are always delicious! They have a nice bakery as well! read more

It's a good place for meat. The deli and bakery are good too. Roterisary chicken salad is pretty good, and the monster cookies are my favorite. Pretty decent wine/beer selection, including the build-your-own 6 pack as mentioned below. The only other option is WalMart, and I wouldn't go there for most produce/meat. Not much seems to have changed at Chief over the ten years I've been gone. Or so I used to think. This is the best (if not only) grocery store in Wauseon (and perhaps all of the FC). My family have been shopping here for as long as I've been alive, and that's a pretty long time. I stopped here on my last day of the Ohio Vacation to get some meat. It had been a frustrating morning of calling area butchers to get a cooler of meat shipped to me at home. Evidently, I take for granted that dry ice is available year round in Phx; in NWO, it's a luxury item. So with styrofoam cooler in hand (thx, Oh Ship!) I headed back to the meat counter and asked to have my box filled with meat. London broil, to be exact. Because the makes the best beef jerky, IMO. Here's one of the things I miss about a small town: the meat department cut it for jerky! I haven't found a place here that will do that, which is why I bought a meat slicer. Anyway, my cooler of frozen beef will be shipped by my Mom tomorrow and I can't wait! read more

This is the fancy grocery store in the small town of Wauseon, Ohio. If you are shopping here currently then you already know that they offer some normal grocery items just like any other, but also try and offer some of the hipper cool kid items that you might find at a TJ's/WF's. If you haven't ever shopped here then why would you start though? Do you really seriously see yourself driving to Wauseon, Ohio just for some fancy items? Are you really going to say, "hey, wouldn't it be cool to drive to the middle of nowhere just to buy some chips and guacamole". Um, gee, I sure hope not. I do hope that your days might be interesting enough to keep you from doing something so insane or preposterous, right? If you do feel the need to go though, bring your WF's shopping bag and brag about your big city life, because it's fun to finally be cool again because you are city folk.... I don't do all of my grocery shopping there, but I can tell you that they have an excellent deli, meat department, and bakery. I get the family's birthday cakes there and only there. They are very fresh, and the best by far. read more
