Chicks Beach is a great neighborhood beach on the Chesapeake Bay. I like to walk the beach at 5 AM when I get out of work accross the lesner bridge from there. There are some great sunrises to be seen from this beach. I also like to walk this beach in the afternoon before I go into work. There is a great beach community along the beach and the people that live here and enjoy the beach are friendly and add to the personality of this cool beach. I've added some photo's that I've taken here. read more

I love coming to this beach. Great to get away for a bit, drink some booze, and water isn't too deep. Good for me since I dread waves and I can't swim well haha. Be careful where you park. Neighbors are out and about even late at night! A lot of them run and walk their dogs. Be mindful, for this is a private beach can't be too wild. This is also a great beach for kids. read more

My old lady's hips kept us from the beach and we finally had to put her down. I really think my Aussie was a tad bit excited because she knew that soon it would all be about her. She is right, we have been going to the beach to walk on the sand instead of hot pavement. Chick's Beach is a much shorter drive for us than VA Beach and far less crowded before 10am. Yes, we have to be off the beach by 10. Today we arrived just before 9 and a nice lady, who was leaving, told me that tickets are being handed out after 10am. This was our third trip in the last week and today I noticed quite a bit of broken glass on the sand. Also, there were cigarette butts littering the sand, gross! I like to walk bare footed but today I went back to 'our spot' and got my flip flops. I navigated around it for my little friend. Many dog owners take advantage of this opportunity to exercise their four legged friends, some off leash. Now, I know that they are supposed to be on leash but these owners all seem to have outstanding verbal control of their dogs, I'm good with it. Hey, I did it too, how can she retrieve the frisbee on a leash? I would have to run with her and that's just not going to happen. People, get some red solo cups and keep the glass off the beach. Then use a cup for your cig butts. There are trash cans all over the place. USE THEM. read more

Great beach where the locals go. No huge hotels, no bikers or rollerbladers, no crazy restrictions, and no dealing with crowds or traffic on Atlantic avenue or parking fields or garages. Great place to go when you know where to park. Very relaxed atmosphere to enjoy a cool alcoholic beverage if you choose, play frisbee or football without worrying about crowds crowds crowds, and enjoyable water off the Chesapeake bay. read more

As far as beaches go, this is pretty standard. Since it is on the bay, the waves are pretty minimal, so don't go here for surfing. I was surprised by how narrow it was (i.e. I didn't have to walk across a mile of hot sand to get to the water!). Despite the advantages, parking is an atrocity for anyone not local enough to walk from their home, so that's a downfall. Overall, nice beach. It won't be replacing my usual beach choice, but it's a good option for those not in the military (I usually go to the beach on a military base). read more

If you just want to go to a beach, you have a few options and Chicks Beach is one of the best. Right off Shore Drive, Chicks Beach provides a quiet and almost private beach like feel, even if you don't own one of the multi-million dollar homes on its sands. Aside from a few houses, there's not much to it--and that makes it just perfect for the locals. There's no gigantic hotels, no 7-11's, no restaurants--just sand, sun and surf (well not really surf but water softly rippling). The water is pretty shallow so its great for kids and parking is never a problem. After Sandbridge and Croatan, Chicks Beach is my favorite. read more

I would give this location SIX stars. I LOVE not only living so close to Chix Beach, but in this area (the pleasure house road area). It is so calm, friendly and beautiful living over here! I am so glad I moved here a few months ago. The people as well as this location are so blessed! There's food, WaWa, Walgreens and the beach so close. And living right down the street from Shore Drive gives you so many more options and places to go that aren't fat for almost everything! Plus there is public transportation available too!! I LOVE YOU CHIX BEACH read more

Had a lot of fun when family and I attended their Pig Picking Oyster Event. First time there it was awesome.

This is one of the best beaches in Virginia Beach. No tourists! The only problem with this beach is that they don't allow dogs. Some days, you can get away with it, but on others people will ask you to leave. If you want to take your pet to a beach, go up to Yorktown or to Dam Neck, (unfortunately you'll have to have a military ID to get on base.) On the other hand, it is great for kids. Bring your beach chairs, coolers, pack a great lunch, and prepare to have an amazing time! read more

It is a secret spot that no tourists visit. It is one of few nicest beaches you can find to lay on or to swim without the tourists flocking into. ;) There are some great cafes nearby and you should dine at these. Best seafoods there. read more

This place is great! No tourist... great view of the Northhampton Bridge Tunnel... Great place to take a first date. The water is warm during the summer and it's quiet. Great place to go running as well. read more

Best beach around town for locals. Definitely a locals beach only. I hate fighting the traffic to the ocean front. Parking and commute is easy. Best beach ever! read more

We love going to chicks beach. Waves are a little smaller than ocean front and there's not as much of the vacationers.

Best kept secret in VA Beach! Beautiful beach with amazing views of the Chesapeake Bay and Bay bridge. Stunning sunsets and awesome community read more

Great beach for a romantic getaway. Beautiful sunsets, great restaurants and scene. Try Hot Tuna or Chick's Oyster Bar and Press. Better and more laid back than the oceanfront, but close enough if you want to head to see all the other tourist activities (you will not). Coming from local read more

My favorite beach in all of Virginia Beach. The only thing you may have a problem with is parking! The people are great, the beach is awesome, and the view is excellent! read more

Had a great time at chicks beach! The beach is clean and the waves are much calmer. Great for young kids. It's off the main strip so no stores and parking can be a challenge. We had a blast tubing there with https://www.extremewatersportsvirginiabeach.com their staff we very friendly and I highly recommend it. read more

If you are going down to Virginia Beach....Chick's Beach is the Beach where many of the locals frequent to get away from tourists. As a tourists, I was happy to be introduced to this spot. The waves are soft compared to those at Virginia Beach, so it's easier to relax on the water. The only downside is that parking is non existent. We parked near a church then had a difficult time finding the entrance to the beach. The entrance we found was through a neighborhood and we almost confused it with someone's private property. read more

Great beach experience for day trips with kids. A few things to note: 1. the beach area is a fraction of the size of the oceanfront, so don't expect sprawling beach, which actually makes it much more pleasant getting in and out of the water. 2. the water is perfect for kids. very shallow during low tide and still very managable in high tide. minimal current, so easy to stay in the water for awhile without wearing yourself out trying to stay in the right place and of course, very small waves. CAUTION: there is some rocks/debris right at the entry into the water (concrete pieces, large rocks, etc) once you get past them (about 1-2 feet out - which of course is still very shallow) it was fine, but i do recommend water shoes for little ones so they don't cut their feet. Also because the water is so calm, traditional floats and other water toys seems to do just fine. 3. there are NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS close by - the convenience store a few blocks away does offer one - the level of cleanliness is highly suspect 4. read all of these reviews - the parking tips are accurate, the feedback on police patrols is also accurate. As long as you follow the rules you won't have any issues. 5. on a related note, there were a couple of folks who felt the need to share their musical preferences with me - it wasn't so overbearing that i was highly aggrevated (that's largely in part because they happened to be playing music in my preferred genre) but it is one of the behaviors i most loathe in any public place - so be prepared that others may not follow standard protocol when in public. either come armed with headphones or a good attitude, both will serve you well. Overall it was a delightful experience, the crowd was small (compared to oceanfront activity), polite and well mannered. The water was perfect and we had a blast playing in it all day. As a side bar, I did not stay for any "after hours" activity at the local restaurants/bars but i could easily see how some of the negative experiences documented here occur regularly. read more

My beach. We have 4 trash cans and no bathrooms....because that's how we roll! Make sure you keep your beer in a solo cup (red) or a coozie...and NO GLASS ALLOWED!! The cops are OK with most stuff...as long as your not being obvious or an ignorant ASS! =) read more

It's an excellent beach for the family. The waves are small, the sightline goes on forever, and the ice cream vans know exactly where and when to show up. Yeah, there'll be a few people with red Solo cups having a good time, but I've never seen anyone angry or aggressive. Make sure you're in a safe place to park, as you WILL get towed. The few spaces get snapped up early on weekends, so try to get there by 10am if you don't want to hunt down a spot a half-mile away. read more

Tranquility at its best! When you're wanting to avoid the touristy crowds on the oceanfront, this should be your go-to spot. It's a beautiful beach with a breathtaking view of the water. You aren't going to find huge waves here, but it's awesome for taking a swim. We brought some snacks, chairs, our books and sunscreen. That's really all that was needed for the most relaxing Sunday ever. For parking, you kind of have to get creative. We usually park in the residential area and find a spot off on the side the road. I'm honestly a fan of any and all beaches (hello, I'm from Indiana) - but this is a perfect one to get a feel of where the locals go. Can't wait to go back and stick my feet in the sand. Mmm. read more

I love this beach. It has small gentle waves so no surfboarding But it is not usually crowded and you can take ur little ones and dogs. The parking is a bit of a problem. And the water has little fishes in it which are harmless. Overall great beach so fun and is really relaxing. read more

I can't help but laugh at the people reviewing this beach. There are a few things I'd like to point out. - You guys don't like tourists on "your" secret beach, yet reviewing the beach on Yelp will cause more people to visit. - Some of you complain about parking, and some of you claim to have good secret parking. Exercise and reduce traffic by riding your bikes to the beach, and hide them in "secret" bushes -Parking in homeowners/tenants parking spots and driveways is not cool. Not all of the beach-houses have driveways. -Funny thing is, if you are using a car to get to chic's beach ("your" secret beach) and fighting each other for secret parking, then my friends... you are the visitor ...you are the tourists! I live on the Northend, and people parking up and down the street is just part of living at the beach (the actual oceanfront), I have never had anyone park in my yard or driveway because our visitors are not like the local-tourists that invade Chic's Beach. This next part is going to BLOW YOUR MINDS; Oceanfront residents walk and ride bikes up to 40 blocks (sometimes further) to enjoy the neighborhoods, the people, the restaurants/bars, and the beaches. . read more

Went to this beach after a recommendation. The beach is soft and the wave are small perfect if you have little one or a dog to which play with on the beach. While on our stroll we got to talking with another beach goer about the houses on the beach and the last storm which had just rolled through. The beach is quiet and not crowded. A few runners that's about it. The only reason I did not give the beach 5 star is because while walking bear footed which I usually do when at the beach I almost stepped on glass twice which could be very bad news. So instead of picking up sea shells I picked up glass from bottles. But even with that I think it was just an isolated incident meaning the entire beach is not like that. I would come here to relax all the time if I lived in the area. Plus parking is usually easy in the adjacent neighborhood. read more

Zero parking. Only parking I could find was paying to park at the state Park. ($7 for Virginia residents and $8 for out of state) Many people were seen walking from the neighborhood but when I drove down the streets there was still zero open spots. read more

This beach is seriously everything a local would want. Yes, you may not find parking but I can guarantee it's because over the summers the tourists have slowly taken over. For someone who lived on the beach here for a year, there were never any issues for me. You can walk to the restaurants, bars and brewery and even the chicks beach market located right in the neighborhood. Everyone that lives here is very neighborly and that carries onto the beach as well. There are volleyball nets set up from those who live on the beach and they welcome everyone to use it, there are at least 2 trash cans at every entrance from the street so I have never seen trash in the sand. Overall I would never go to any other beach especially the oceanfront unless you want rude people overcrowding for miles. read more

This is an extremely cool area. Hell's Kitchen is a nice hot spot with bands. The whole area has a beachy feel. Which goes along with the fact that it is a beach of course. I have friends who live here and I am a little jealous. The beach part is alright. I like having tourists around me when I am on the beach though. It's more fun that way. Some nice houses here. read more

Crowded, crowded, crowded. No parking. Long walk to get a space to sit.

This is a nice beach. I've been here a few times and it's not too crowded and pretty clean. I usually park near Alexander's, but not at Alexander's, cuz I'd get a ticket. But you can park in the neighborhood and then it's just a short walk to the beach :) read more

LOVE this beach!! If you go to a beach in Virginia Beach - this is the one to visit! The parking's somewhat limited...but the beach is awesome. Very cozy, close to parking ( you dont have to walk 3 miles thru the sand to get to your car), area is gorgeous. Love it!! read more
