Took 2 kids for a basic annual checkup and walked out owing over $500 Previous visits had been SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. No mention ahead of time, no notice, just a $500 bill for 2 kids. Like other reviews, the billing side of things leaves MUCH to be desired. They refused to set up auto payments with my credit card. After supposedly sending me a bill, after just a very short time, instead of calling me, they sent it to collections and refuse to work with me at all. In fact, I only learned about collections a year later when applying for a loan. I spoke to our new dentist and showed them the itemized bill and they were SHOCKED. The same treatments at new dentist were $140-much more reasonable. If my mechanic did that, the BAR would take their license. On top of that, actual dentist spent less than 10% of time with kids, the rest was all assistants. The actual dentist was nice and polite, the staff are lacking. I understand volume=profit but please-these are kids... Will not be going back. Ever. read more

I am beyond frustrated with the office. I had to bring my daughter in for a simple exam and regretted it almost immediately. She has some simple staining on her front teeth and the dentist suggested I have her put under anesthesia to cap them! She's two! She's going to lose those teeth. Unbelievable suggestion. Dr Roos is an excellent dentist. I highly recommend him. A young child getting a filling can be a very scary experience. Dr Roos and his dental staff have been amazing. Despite being out of network, I continue to bring my business to him because my son has had a great experience every time he has visited. As a parent, that means everything. I agree that the billing is inconsistent and can be extremely confusing if not explained well. His reception staff has always been very clear and patient in explaining. My only complaint is that their office manager is impatient when explaining billing and needs to work on delivering information in a more professional manner. When speaking with her, I felt talked down to. Like asking to have the billing explained to me meant I could not afford my son's procedures which wasn't the case. The dentists here are absolutely awesome.......but the office staff and billing department leave much to be desired. They do not tell you up front that billing your insurance is a "courtesy" they do. If they do this "courtesy" wrong you owe the whole balance. A simple cleaning on a 3 year old was charged $400. Lucky for me I am a medical biller and have been able to fight them. They did attempt to turn me into a collection agency until I had to call them out on their unethical and flat out ignorant billing practices. Needless to say the bill will be submitted to insurance and taken off the credit company but this is only because I knew exactly what was happening. You are your only advocate for healthcare read the fine print, fight for what you know is right and when all else fails just don't go here and find a better dentist. read more

Dr. Roos is truly amazing. He not only has created the most incredible fun front lobby, but he instantly puts kids at ease. He has silly ways of making them laugh and feel comfortable (he still doesn't know his ABCs). When my kids have needed fillings, he makes the whole situation completely relaxed and calm. He has this special way of hiding the numbing needle so the kids have no way of even knowing they're getting a "shot". My kids absolutely love going to the dentist, and I can't imagine a better feeling as a parent. read more

He's a father with an autistic family member, so it's nice to know that he's working diligently and genuinely cares about kids with special needs. My children have been with Dr. Roos for several years. I switched after my son had a terrible and traumatizing experience with a different local pediatric dentist (now retired thankfully). Due to the poor care from the previous dentist my son came to Dr. Roos needing a crown replaced and three cavities filled. Due to the trauma of his previous experience he was terrified. Dr. Roos was amazing, once my son got in the chair and the procedure started (and it was a long one) not a single tear was shed. Dr. Roos was gentle, patient, and compassionate. I could not have asked for anything better. Both my children have been cavity free since we started seeing Dr. Roos. He is silly and goofy with my son who loves it, but quickly picked up on the fact that my daughter is less than amused by such antics and adjusted his approach to meet her needs perfectly. All of my experiences with the office staff has been positive. read more

We had a quick emergency today and they took care of my son's tooth with an x-ray and remove the spacer very quickly. It was painless. The office is one of the best I've seen in Chico. Referred by our dentist. Office said they accepted our insurance - sure, they will take it, but being in network is a whole lot different than just accepting any and every insurance. Was not expecting a bill when we left as the procedures our children had done were considered preventative. Was asked for 20% of the appointment cost when we left because they didn't know what our insurance would cover. I've never been asked for a percentage up front. The medical office usually finds out what is covered and invoices you for your portion if your insurance does not cover 100% (that's what a "billing department" is for). When I mentioned this, the receptionist told me that their office didn't have time to connect with my insurance to see what was covered vs not covered because their office was so busy and "backed up" with claims. She proceeded to give me codes to call my insurance company with. I've never dealt with such un professionalism and left extremely confused. Upon calling my insurance company, I was informed by them that collecting a portion upfront like that can be considered "fraudulent billing." One month later, our insurance company called us to tell us that they paid 100%, so we could go collect the 20% this office collected from me. I called the office immediately to see what would be the fastest way for me to get my funds reimbursed to me. I was told to come in the following Monday around noon to pick up the check. I showed up on Monday at 1:00 pm and was told that "Oopsie, the check was mailed. Looks like there was a mix up in the notes." Was I surprised? Not really. "You'll receive it tomorrow." I didn't. From the get go, this office did not do one thing right. When we had our children's records switched to a different Pediatric dentist, the dentist remarked that he would have to re do the x-Rays because some of their teeth were left out and the films were blurry and not in focus. Not really what you want to hear when your insurance covers only two x-Rays per year! The one pro for this office is that Dr. Roos forgets his ABCs. And that's pretty darn funny. read more

Dr. Roos and Dr. Tornabene's pediatric dental practice is the best children's facility I've taken my kids too. Especially in Chico. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere is completely catered to the comfort of the children. The Dr.'s take their time to get to know the kids before they start to see them regularly and they are very good with kids. I will continue to take my kids there. He has a train in his office and really fun stuff for the kids. He let's you stay in the room with your child and explains everything to both of you. The best part about his practice is that my son had to go back two different times for cavities and has never been fearful ever. He looks forward to going to the dentist. Dr Roos was excellent, he was friendly and funny. The process is great and not intimidating for little kids who are nervous!! My 8 year old was a bit standoffish because of bad past experiences, we were both nervous but From the time we checked in, to the time we left, it was so exactly what we had wanted! They did X-rays and everything without a single tear. I was so happy and now my daughter can't wait to go back! The dentists are great! They have the most odd billing practices though! Instead of running the insurance then billing the rest they insist paying up front and crediting the remainder. However my main complaint is with the front desk person Kristi. She is consistently rude both on the phone and in person, don't dare ask questions! read more

I have been bring my daughter to Dr. Roos.. for the last 2 years. The building is beautiful, clean and so many added touchs. The outside sidewalk has hopscotch in the concrete, they have lovely kids artwork decorating the walls and great toys for the wait. (We have never had to wait longer than 10 minutes). Every employee there meets you with a smile and is so kind. Then you get to the dentist. This guy is top notch. I have very high standards when it comes to how people treat my children and Dr. Roos exceeded all my expectations. His bedside manner is amazying. He jokes with the children, sings songs, tells story's etc. This office is great. read more

Dr. Roos is great! However, I was extremely disappointed with his office staff. My daughter has been going to Dr. Roos for 3 years now. My insurance changes each year. I let them know I had new insurance, they took my card and proceeded with my daughters appt. When leaving I asked about a co-pay and was told I didn't owe anything, we scheduled an appt for a cavity and everything was good. We show up to the cavity appt. My daughter was already in the chair to have her cavity filled and while I was explaining something about my insurance to Alma, only then did she let me know they don't take my insurance and that I would be paying $500 that day. I'm partially responsible because I missed Dr. Roos when I was looking up in network providers for my new insurance. I wouldn't have taken her there if I knew they weren't going to take my insurance. However, I dealt with 3 different office employees over these 2 visits. Customer service wise, it would have been great if they would have let me know before they were asking for $500. When I ask why nobody let me know Alma replied "we figure that something you should know". Dr. Roos has always been great with my daughter and I really like him as a dentist, but after this I find it hard to trust his staff. :( read more

Both of my kids began their first dental experiences with pediatric dentist Erik Roos. He is a is very patient, kind, considerate to special needs and calm person. About a year of being his patients, my kids were switched over to his colleague Ann Tornabene. This switch was simple done without consulting with us and continued throughout our scheduled visits for over a year. This seemed okay, until we began noticing a difference in how the visits were handled. At an annual check-up in May 2013, it was suggested that my son undergo a root canal. No available appts were offered until mid Sept. 2013. At this time, our office visit for a root canal turned out to be an extraction because he now had an abscess. As for any parent, this made us nervous and the situation was pure anxiety. X-rays were taken (images which are no good and cannot be used for future diagnostics purposes like his oral surgery), tooth pulled and Dr. Ann Tornabene pulled me aside to discuss oral surgery for two other cavities in the molars using general anesthesia. A discussion which was taking place as my son was very upset, crying and afraid. This was insensitive to me and my son and unnecessary at that immediate time. My son needed me at that moment. I was so upset how things were handled, that days later I looked for a second opinion and went with another local pediatric dentist who will perform the needed oral surgery for my son in this week. Four months is ridiculous to wait for a root canal and I do feel that this "wait" contributed to his abscess and ultimately having a tooth extracted. Despite X-rays that were taken by Roos' staff, I am very upset about having my son be re-exposed to another set which are needed prior to his oral surgery. Other parents have shared similar experiences with me about the bouncing from Roos to his colleague Ann Tornabene and they too have opted to go elsewhere for that being one of the reasons. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Dr. Ann and Dr. Roos. First of all, they make going to the dentist fun. Their waiting area is amazing. The only complaint my daughter has about the waiting room is that the wait isn't long enough hehe. Literally, there's never a wait. I can rest assured that my appointment time will be kept to the scheduled time. And it is super clean--even the restroom is super nice and modern. As for the care, Dr. Ann is amazing! She is compassionate and caring, really good with kids, energetic, and extremely knowledgeable. She listens to my concerns, answers all of my questions, and even sent us to a specialist for an issue our daughter was having with an underbite (even though we were told by another dentist that perhaps she was too young to be seen by a specialist). When I have called with questions, Dr. Ann always returns my calls herself. They are awesome, and I refer all of my friends, and won't go anywhere else as long as we are in Chico. read more

When it comes to anything healthcare related, I'm a tough customer. This place is impressive. Beautiful facility. My 20 month old loves the play area in the large waiting room. The train runs along the ceiling. The staff are all courteous and treat us like they are actually happy we are there. It took about 4 months to get in so call early. So great to set up as a patient in case there is an urgent need. read more

Drs Roos and Tornabene are the best. We are so lucky to have dentists like them to treat our kids here in Chico. They are popular because they are the best dentists for kids around. I have taken my kids there for four years and I wish I could go there too. The new office is state of the art. It is a busy place but that is because they are worth it! Both of these dentists are the only ones I would let see my three young kids. Also when I had an issue with the insurance a year ago, I spoke directly with the office manager and the doctor and it was solved which was great service.
