Like everyone else in the area, I was excited to see a "new ORIGINAL restaurant open up on North Avenue", so I decided to give the new Chickies Beef in Melrose Park a try. With the long history behind the Chickies name..., and "Beef" literally in the name, I figured the obvious first choice was the Combo. And for my non-Chicago friends, a Combo is an Italian beef and Italian sausage sandwich together. Unfortunately, I can't say much more than VERY disappointing. The beef itself had very little flavor, and what they're calling "giardiniera" was basically thinly sliced jalapeños and celery. No seasoning, no oil, and definitely not the Chicago-style giardiniera I was expecting. The sausage was decent, but overall the sandwich just didn't have that rich, seasoned, juicy flavor you expect from a good Chicago beef. And it's not exactly cheap either. The "Meal Deal"..., just the sandwich, fries, and a medium drink, was $19.20 BEFORE tax. At that price point, I'm expecting a pretty damn good beef sandwich. I also figured I'd try a slice of pepperoni pizza. That wasn't much better. To me, it was more like pizza bread than an actual slice of pizza..., very doughy and average at best. They do have a pretty extensive menu, so maybe there are some hidden gems I didn't try. But when the place is called "Chickies Beef", and two of the staples are beef sandwiches and pizza, I expected those to be the things that knocked it out of the park. I really wanted to like it, especially because it's great seeing something new and local opening on North Avenue. Maybe they're still working out the kinks being new, but based on this first visit, $19.20 for the Combo meal and an average-at-best pizza isn't giving me much reason to rush back.

An unfilled Canoli shell, charged 3.95 for it

Gave it 3 tries! The fries were soaked in grease, the hot dog was cold, the pizza is mostly dough. NOT GOOD.

Down-to-earth, humble spot for some Chicago fast food!…read more They have gyros, hot dogs, burgers, shish-kabob, Italian beef, fries, onion rings, and more. When I was here I got the #8 Greek chicken which was nicely seasoned broiled chicken, garlic bread, and rice. It came piping hot and fresh and served with a drink. I loved it! Their fries and onion rings were delicious, too. Pop's totally reminds me of a true Chicagoan spot for some grub - you'll see locals coming in and out while talking with the staff (because they're regulars) about the Bears, work, or construction nearby on I-90 (very Chicagoan). I loved the lowkey and charming feel here. Their pricing is affordable with most combos (including fries and a drink) being under $11. It's better to eat individually or with 1 person if you want to dine-in since they don't have tables inside, just a built-in tabletop against the walls so you're facing the window/wall when you eat. I recommend taking your food to-go. The 2 men at the counter helping me were personable and approachable. Located in a tiny stip mall off the busy street, this place is a small spot with convenient parking right out in front. Pop's is one humble fast-food place that serves up fresh menu items and Chicago classics. I'd recommend it!

There's a table and window seats for fine in, the young man who took our order was very friendly and polite. We ordered a steak sandwich with fries and a combo (beef and sausage) the steak sandwich was decent size it just needed a more seasoning, the fries were crinkle cut frozen fries (we prefer fresh cut) and needed to be a crispier. The combo was tasty and good size. I give this restaurant 4 stars nice little spot. Try it out and let me know what you think. Ciao, Ciao for now.

Nothing to complain about here! Ordered online and the food was ready right when I expected…read more It was in a very full bag (I could have used 2 bags actually), but well packaged and nothing spilled. I ordered burgers, chicken tenders and the bahn mi chicken sandwich. I only tried the chicken sandwich but it was absolutely delicious. Perfectly spicy (not overly so) and a good ratio of bun to chicken/toppings. One of the burgers vanished before my eyes swiftly so I assume that was delicious also. Fries looked yummy as well. I will definitely be back. Great for pickup but there is also a surprisingly large dining room as well and you can order, get a number and have your food brought to the table. Delicious!

It was ready in under the estimated time it be ready. I was excited. Unfortunately my fries were very soggy and my burger looked nothing like the picture used when you place your order on their app. The lettuce had brownish color, tomatoe was soggy. I decided to give it a bite and it was not a $25 meal. Paying $25 for a burger and fries deserves a much better experience. I wish it was better. Oh yeah, and the brioche bun feel apart after 1 bite. So it was probably past it's life span to serve. I wouldn't even post anything like this if I hadn't spent $25 for a burger and fries.
