Their Chicken Meal choices DO NOT include one breast. They give you the crappiest pieces only. If you want a breast, you have to pay extra, but they avoid telling prospective customers this information. This is done on purpose and is a clear sign of what you should expect. Dishonest service! Other places like Mary Browns or Lee's will happily "give" you two breasts at no extra charge. And they don't use 6 pounds breading on absolutely everything lol. I stopped ordering there over a year ago because they always get the orders wrong. Decided that I'd give it a try recently. Chicken exteriors were burnt to a crisp and inside, the meat was still pink. Called them back (as is always the case) and asked them to come and collect this terrible food and give me my money back. This place has been around for a very long-time, they've made tons of money from the surrounding communities, but for the past 5 years, have been extremely lazy and uncaring about their customers. on the 8 mar 2024 I ordered 1 family dinner, the chicken meat was good but the coating was so greasy it was sickening , both the chicken and wedges were the same, it looks like it was sitting around for a while then put in old grease to heat up, we needed a lot of paper towel just to pick the coating off of a piece each . If you live in Victoria and you like fried chicken, then you owe it to yourself to try some "broasted" chicken from Chicken On The Run (aka Crown Palace Chinese Restaurant). The chicken is prepared using a pressurized deep fryer and the result is a very crispy, very juicy chicken, that is surprisingly devoid of oil. I ordered the chicken dinner which came with memorable wedge fries and a very forgettable cole slaw. The fries were fluffy inside and potatoey. The slaw was so plain that I took one bite and threw it out. I also ordered a half portion of "dusty" hot wings which were "Montreal style". The wings were mildly spicy and deep fried in the same manner as the chicken in the dinner portions. I'm woefully ignorant of the way they make chicken wings in Montreal so they were not really what I expect in a chicken wing, but they were good. The wings were juicy, spicy and a bit salty. The lady at the counter was pleasant. Several regulars came in and she knew them all by name. I'm on a business trip in Victoria for a week and this is the first place I chose to dine immediately after checking in to the hotel. Like all sensible food-driven individual, I did a considerable amount of research on eateries in the area before even booking a ferry or a hotel, and the fact that this place has been in business more than 15 years in the same spot and also the concept of "broasted" chicken, where you fry the battered chicken in a pressure cooker, convinced me to give this place a visit. Being a fried chicken fanatic (then again who isn't,) contributed as well. Upon arriving at the address, I was delighted to see it was an unassuming, hole-in-the-wall type of old school joint that I imagined it to be. The space inside was very small but nonetheless inviting. I was a bit confused with the Chinese decorations but I soon realized the place was two restaurants in one! They operated a Chinese restaurant by the name of Crown Palace in the same space but with separate menu. I ordered 3-piece dinner set, which consisted of a generous portion of coleslaw, wedge fries and three pieces of chicken. The potato wedges were something else. I usually don't like wedge fries but these ones were absolutely amazing. I just can't explain it. You must try them for yourself. So after a very impressive start, I dig into the chicken. Oh boy, the crunch on these were so satisfying. Although a bit oily under the batter, chicken tasted fresh and each pieces were perfectly seasoned. Meat was super juicy and moist as well. I can honestly say that these guys are top contenders to the best fried chicken places in Vancouver, but only they are not in Vancouver so I let out a long sigh and promise myself to come back at least once before I head back to Vancouver. read more

This place has a long history, but the current owners seem to be hurting its reputation. The food is quite good, and it is perhaps the only place in town that will deliver something other than pizza/pasta or chinese. The offer a basic menu of fried chicken or fish-and-chips with sides of wedge fries, chicken gravy, and assorted salads. Based on food I would give them 5 stars. But their service has been dropping rapidly in the last year. They added a fuel surcharge while still advertising free delivery, and didn't take it off when gas prices dropped. The last three times I ordered from them they forgot items in my order but still charged me for them. And the last time, the dinners had been halved in quantity. I still go there because the food is really good, but I go much less because of the poor service. UPDATE: I tried this place again last week and this week, and they have really improved (maybe they read Yelp?). We're in a hotel and it's raining and we didn't feel like going out so we hit the internet to see who delivered to us. It seemed to be mostly Asian or pizza, which wasn't thrilling us. And then I came across this place. We made the right choice! The chicken was very good, though I wouldn't say it was as flavorful as KFC, it also wasn't nearly as greasy. The fries, OMG, the fries are delicious! You have to get the gravy for the fries (and the chicken, in my opinion.) The gravy is awesome and way better than KFC. The coleslaw is also very good. It did take a while, it took a little over an hour for them to get to us, but they told us that when we ordered so it was fine. They were nice when we ordered, easy to communicate with on the phone, friendly and helpful. It was also probably the least expensive meal we've had while here in Victoria. I really love the food. The potato wedge fries are some kind of delicious wizardry, seriously. Those and the gravy are fantastic. Good onion rings, too, and of course delicious chicken. We've eaten here twice and loved it both times, though sodium-wise it's not the best idea, that's for sure. It's good to support local neighbourhood businesses, and it's easy to do so when Chicken on the Run (and its counterpart Crown Palace) is so delicious. We have been here 3 times now and it never disappoints. Amazing chicken, juicy crisp and flavourful. The wedges are some sort of sweet battered potato fluff magic and with the gravy they delight further. Good coleslaw... not genius but solid. The restaurant is really just take out and delivery, we picked it up for a picnic outside or at home. It's confusing and a bit odd the first time as it's not a traditional set up and sports a Chinese restaurant take out in the same set up as well. I love fried chicken. It is one of my favorite 'fat' food. I am not from Victoria so I went online to google a good place to try fried chicken in town, Chicken on the run pops up. I decided to give it a try based on the Yelp review. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was wasn't sure if it was Chicken on the Run as they have another title on the wall that sells Ginger Beef. I felt a little iffy about the place since it sells ginger beef (code name for bad chinese food). I went against my gut and ordered 3 pieces of chicken, an order of fries, and a gravy. The total was $17.50 which is quite expensive. When i get my order, I realize the chicken came with fries...so it was a waste of money to order the extra order of fries. Anyway, the chicken was hot and I think that is the only good thing about it. There were no flavours to the fried chicken AT ALL. It was obviously fried with too much oil for too long as all I could feel was the oil in my mouth. This is the same for the fries... Essentially, I felt like I was eating fried oil. This is the first fried chicken meal where I did not finish it because I was too gross out (and I love fatty food!). The chicken and fries were soaked in oil and it was not a good feeling to be eating it. The fact that there is no flavouring to the chicken didn't help either. Anyway, if you are somewhat picky with your fried chicken, I would suggest to stay away from this place. read more

Most of the time, I like the chicken they serve a lot, but the service is the absolute worst out of any delivery I have ever dealt with. They are inconsistent, entitled, and ultimately don't care about their customers at all. Of the dozen or so times I have ordered from Chicken on the Run, these are the kind of things I have had to put up with from them: 1. Delivery drivers arriving at my door obviously intoxicated. I could smell heavy booze on their breath while they slurred their words to me. Then while I was typing in my pin they stammered something about leaving a better tip means faster delivery next time. I was disgusted and really regret not calling the cops. 2. Inability of drivers to understand basic commands such as "call when you are outside" or "use the back door". More than once the delivery driver just knocked on the front door and woke up my landlord. If only they could follow simple instructions. 3. Unfriendly delivery drivers. I don't know if they didn't speak english or not, but a smile and a hello goes a long way. More times than not, the person delivering my food would not say a single word to me. 4. Inconsistency with how the chicken tasted. One order would taste like god's gift to earth, while another tasted like it came from Satan's butthole. It was either not greasy at all, or greasy to the point where you had to wear gloves to handle it. I am a long time fan of chicken on the run, having ordered their chicken for over 2 years. But after how I was treated tonight, with EXTREMELY poor service, I will never order from them again. I was treated rudely by my delivery driver, and when I called to complain, was treated even worse by the person answering the phone. All I wanted was some acknowledgement that they had messed up, and would make it up to me somehow, but all I heard was excuses about how it was 'out of their reach'. I love Chicken on the Run! The broasted chicken is perhaps not what a lot of people expect with fried chicken, but I prefer it. The coating is well seasoned and everytime I have ordered the chicken is cooked perfectly. The fries are wedge style, and also cooked properly with a soft interior. Their dinners come with a small coleslaw as well - I think they could have made them a little larger, but there is always enough since the fries and chicken are large. The chicken gravy is extra, but I would recommend it as it is perhaps the best I have every tasted. The prices are a bit high for this type of restaurant - dinner for four people is around $50 - but the food is of such high quality that it is worth the expense. read more

Best fried (or broasted) chicken EVER! The chicken here is perfectly seasoned and crispy without being greasy or dry. We're in Victoria for a week and have already been there twice! We've ordered the Chicken only and the Dusty Hot Wings. (I'm not big on wedge cut fries or cole slaw.) The Dusty Hot Wings were a little too spicy for my taste but my husband who can take the heat better than I really enjoyed them. Skip the chinese food though. (Crown Palace Chinese Restaurant is the same place.) I ordered the BBQ pork fried rice and it was edible but not tasty.
