Half Chicken with One Side
Riley M.

This was my second time back, and wont be the last. Service was super quick and friendly, I ordered ahead but there was no need as they still pack it fresh in front of you. The chicken is cooked very nicely, moist and the skin gives a great flavor. Definitely give the side of salsa a try to really up the flavor. The sides are simple, no guesswork, a little more on the plain side but we're here for the chicken anyway. The half chicken portion could have easily fed two.

Some of the best chicken ive had! The seasoning is amazing and the skin is super crispy - I do prefer the darker meat pieces since they are more juicier. Their pita is addicting too! Great sides. Highly recommend eating there as it is steaming hot! Friendly staff. Definitely not a fancy place but thats how you know the food is gonna be good!

One time, walking up and down Broadway, we could not resist the smell of the grilled chicken out of this corner restaurant. We decided to walk in and order...the menu is pretty simple...whole chicken, half chicken, quarter chicken...then you pick your side....easy. The chicken was so delicious....the portion was large and the flavor profile of the marinate was right on point.... The place is like a diner, so it's no frills, very casual, almost what you see in Latin America. But the taste will have you come back...again and again....

Stopped by on a hot day. Got the half chicken with Cole slaw and a fountain drink. The salsa sauce was refreshing with the chicken. Next time I'll eat it with some hot sauce. The chicken was at a great price, perfect grilled bbq chicken, and addicting Cole slaw. What's there not to like! 12/10 would recommend. Go!!

This spot is always a hit. I have been coming here since 2004 and the flavor has never changed. By far the best rotisserie chicken in Lakeview, Lincoln Park. Consistent fresh and delicious!!!

Edited: my first experience here was fine but I got the worst food poisoning of my life the second time around... not returning. If you want to quickly lose five pounds then eat here.

Whole Chicken Dinner Special

This place is close to our gym and we had been wanting to try it out. Nothing better than a pile of protein after a good workout! It was delicious!! We ordered the whole chicken meal to split and have some leftovers. We got the mashed potatoes and rice as sides. My partner said he'd probably swap his rice for mashed potatoes next time. We loved the chicken! It was a good value for the amount of food we got. We'll definitely be back!

Super good chicken with the same bbq sauce as Harold's. Like a healthier version of Harold's, as it is grilled, not fried.

For the second time, the stores did not follow delivery instructions. The food is done but I won't be ordering from them any time soon.

This sandwich had a nice crispy plump fried chicken breast w/pickles, shredded cabbage, hot honey & spicy mayo on a bun. This was a delicious blend of the fried chicken w/the crunch of the cabbage & pickle & the hot honey & spicy mayo. This was an excellent choice that we both enjoyed the sandwich. I asked for an extra side of sauce to dip it in & that helped significantly. We did LOVE all the sides. The mac & cheese was soooo good (and I am hard to impress when it comes to mac & cheese. It tasted way better than it looks). The brussel sprouts were perfectly crispy & not soggy at all. The fries were seasoned great and were sooo good dipped in the ranch. Even though the wrap was disappointing, I would still go back and try their chicken sandwich instead or one of their salads!

My Old Faithful sometimes had the Dirty Mac special, and when it didn't, I'd order the individual components and assemble it myself. Cue some giddy excitement when the same is part of this location's permanent menu. You know I went for it, but was tremendously disappointed. To start, the tender was too small on its own, but doubly so when considering the amount of macaroni and cheese. Though, the little bits and pieces of tender I received were great. As for the M&C, this was a letdown on two fronts: first, the sauce was watery, second, it was cold! To add insult to injury, cold mac plus warm tender = cold tender. While the restaurant was not at all busy at the time, this is no excuse to serve cold food. Then came the fries: I appreciate that these were fresh, hot, and cooked well. They also had some of their own seasoning to add flavor, but didn't go far enough due to a stunning lack of salt! The location was clean and bright, with loads of happy colors on their walls. The service wasn't Michelin-star quality, but perfectly fine for a fast-casual spot. Final verdict: Do not use the Lakeview location as a barometer of Hot Chi's quality, for they can make amazing food. However, if you seek it here, you will not find.

The restaurant is small, almost like a tiny barn, with a walk-through kitchen where I can see the food being made while the smell of fried chicken fills the air. It has that casual, no-frills feel where the food does all the talking. The staff were super nice and welcoming, too. I ordered the Hot Honey Fried Chicken Sandwich, and oh my god... this thing was a sweet and spicy mess in the best way possible. The chicken was tender and juicy inside, with a crispy fried coating giving it a satisfying crunch. The hot honey was what really brought everything together. It had a sweet, sticky flavor up front, followed by a gentle heat that kicked in a moment later. It wasn't overwhelmingly spicy, but it definitely had enough of a kick to keep things interesting. There was also a creamy sauce that balanced the heat and adding another layer of flavor. Every bite had something going on, the flavors played off each other so well and nothing felt out of place. It was messy, sticky, and absolutely worth it.

At this point, I've had two experiences with this Fry the Coop location…read more My first was generally positive. The chicken and fries were hot and fresh, and the sandwich had some appreciable heat. The only critique I could levy was that by virtue of being twice fried, both were very crispy, crispier than I would have liked. My second experience was less tasty and more chaotic. Walking in, one of the booths looked like a microburst had gone through. The cashier let me know that they were slammed with pickup orders, and that getting my food would take ~15-20 minutes. Since the cooks were managing a massive influx of orders, I didn't want to pull them away from their duties, and asked the manager to be called out from the back. I brought it to their attention, and it was promptly cleaned. However, it may have been wise to keep a better eye on things, for seeing such chaos almost led to me walking out and not returning. When it comes to the food, this time around it was disappointing. Despite food constantly coming fresh out the fryer, my fries and sandwich felt and tasted as if they'd been sitting out for 10-15 minutes. While I appreciate the need to fulfill pickup orders, allowing the food of a customer waiting in person to go ignored feels inappropriate. Further, despite being ordered as "hot", the sandwich was a medium at best (I have a high heat tolerance, so YMMV). The service overall has been fine for a fast-casual spot. Not award-winning or meme'd for their hospitality (*ahem* Chick-fil-A) but acceptable for what it is. The vibe is on the smaller side, with three booths. There is a very slightly retro, classic-rock-like feel to the vibe. Final verdict: My two experiences have fallen short for me. The first led to food that was overly crisp, and the second felt like food I might as well have had delivered. While not bad, there is no shortage of chicken shops in Chicagoland that have a superior, more consistent product.
