Chicken is good, but they have NO quality check..we went in 2 nights ago and ordered $48 worth of food for our visiting family. Checked the bags as best we could, (there was a lot) and drove all the way home almost to Rockport.. Missing a side and rolls. We went to the one in Portland Texas and it was not good service. The girl in the drive thru just handed the food to us. No thank you, no nothing. There was a big rip in the gravy lid. The biscuit was hard as a rock. The order was wrong with the 1/2 chicken. It was in my order and spicy makes me sick. We got chicken tenders with 2 sides. The food just tasted old. My family and I went for dinner at this location about 8:00 pm on 7/16/22. We had a family of 12 and ordered two family tender bundles totaling about 50 tenders. We got 3 family sides of fries and one of mashed potatoes. We were not able to get macaroni as a side due to them being out. All of the food we ordered was good. The service was not so much. When we asked for ketchup for the fries, we were told they were out as well. We asked if they could give us Buffalo or ranch as a dipping sauce since they were out of ketchup and were told no. She said she would "get in trouble." I simply asked her to make it right since we order 3 family sides of fries and spent about $120 for dinner. The manager told us we could use gravy for our fries. We were told we would have to pay 50 cents per dipping sauce. The manager was not very accommodating for them being out on product. read more

1st time eating here. We enjoyed the spicy chicken tenders. Okra was hot, fresh, and big . Yes, the tea was good too, but i had to mix 50/50 w/ sweet and unsweet . Ugh- I've had much better fried chicken. I've heard good things about Chicken E's sweet tea, so I thought I'd stop in and have dinner. Got the #1- chicken tender meal deal with a drink. I was supposed to get 4 chicken tenders, but ended up with five! Woot! The mashed potatoes as a side came in a styrofoam cup with a "MP" sticker on the top. Obviously premade much earlier in the day, and warmed over when I ordered it. You can get a clear view of the piles of fried chicken in the back, as the employees pack them into boxes and bags for the customers. It seems that one employee's job is to swat the flies away from the chicken- they've got a problem. It's not appetizing to see the flies all over the chicken in the back. The sweet tea didn't live up to the hype. At least they give packets of honey to sweeten it up properly. It tastes kinda watery compared to Bill Miller's tea (best tea in Texas IMHO) It's nice that they have the chewable ice. The service here was lousy- the cashier acted like I was ruining her day by coming in to order food. Sighs and eye rolls with each customers' order. The cashier acted put off by having to be there, and would rather be doing something else. It made me wish I wasn't bothering them, and I was eating at another restaurant. The best thing about Chicken E was the seasoned salts and hot sauce packets (Load up!) I took home a handful, and they're great on my eggs and hashbrowns in the morning! read more

I judge on customer service and so far I'm HIGHLY disappointed. The two women up front seem frustrated to say the least. I also couldn't distinguish who the manager in charge was because nobody seem to be in control. You've got a full restaurant and I'd expect to see someone, anyone, checking on the guests. Update: 7-13-17 Went through the drive through yesterday evening and everything was fair with the exception of a few things, thing one: the biscuit was hard as a rock, don't know how they manage this I'm guessing it's a frozen reheat or been out all day. thing two: the portions were a little lacking from what I've come to know and love about chicken express so I decide to go again tonight after work and I was actually surprised to find that it was the same, hard biscuit and tiny chicken. Not my favorite to place to eat anymore But decided to give it a try. The mashed potatoes bowl styrofoam was melted into the mashed potatoes, GROSS!!! took it back and the GM told me she didn't have time for this and told me it was because the warming drawer was too hot. Why didn't an employee catch that before serving it? I just dropped in here a moment ago right after opening time, and found it to be a very clean place, the food was really very fresh. I initially did not see anyone at register but a gentleman not in uniform in the kitchen area saw me and promptly got someone to come up. The lady who took my order was very nice then she swapped with another lay who finished my order and I had a slight mix up with my food. I ordered a seven price and got a four price. No big deal maybe I ordered wrong, so I mentioned it but said I'll be fine with the 4 piece. They did right and brought me more tenders out to correct the issue informing me the cashier just pressed the wrong button. I understand mistakes happen and appreciate that they didn't ignore it instead of attempting to correct it. We've been to this location twice now. The food is fresh - like steaming hot - and reliably good. The store is nice and clean. There are PLENTY of young employees running around. Some of them could focus on the fact that they should put the customer first above talking to one another, but other than that, we've had fine experiences both times. read more

Went for the first time yesterday(super bowl Sunday) around 2pm and I was greeted by the bitchiest fast food cashier I've ever met. No hello, no welcome. She just asked me if my order is take out or dining in and feels like my whole family's presence is a inconvenience to her. She took my order and not a single ounce of costumer service was shown. When she gave me my order she just gave me a look like I stole something and once again not even a have a nice day or thank you. If you're main job is dealing with customers maybe you need to atleast show a hint of customer service. There's nothing EXPRESS about chicken express. I thought this was a grilled chicken place but yet another fried chicken place here in town. I decided to give it a chance and waited in a drive thru behind 1 car for more than 20 minutes. The guys inside didn't look like they knew what was going on and a customer in front of me complained about them giving their order to the customer in front of them, only to have them open it and hand it back off to them.
