It is my new favorite spot to bring the fam. No one goes here besides the morning geriatrics. It's small, comically dated, has less amenities or modern equiptment than your average gym, and it's definitely not the cleanest of places..But they are making it work, and likely on a shoestring budget. And I feel like it's all mine! They let me use the water aerobics equipment free of charge. I can shoot hoop with hubby and the kiddies without conflict. Basketball court has even been refinished recently. They plan on moving to a bigger newer building, but that's still years away. So I will enjoy this place while I still can. Just avoid the locker rooms.

They even used the diving board a few times. They thoroughly enjoyed it. The downside of our visit was the three young adult girls wearing g-strings and walking around small children. My youngest was horrified that he could see their "tushies". There's a place for such things but it's not in a children's area. It's indecent and I was surprised they were allowed in. I mean.... you have to wear shoes to enter other establishments... you should have to wear some kind of bum covering in the presence of children. IMO.

The camp is tucked down hill in a canyon. One of the best things about this place is--- NO CELL PHONE RECEPTION! You must go up the huge hill to get any. (YES!) There is a ton of cabins, so cute, old, red and quaint! And then there is a new conference area with rooms, a kitchen, a living space, private and public bathrooms. The room I shared had three beds, two twins and a full. A ac, a bathroom with a shower, no tvs! The hall to the rooms have skylights and natural light flows in during the day. The end of the hall, is a door to outside, and faces a canyon wall. The new area is surrounded by the canyon, which is really cool!! Free wi-fi as well for those who need to stay connected to Facebook! The left of the building (when your facing it) has a cute little red gazebo tucked away, which is really nice for meditation. Like I stated earlier, there are other places to say here. I'm assuming for the kiddos who come camping, which in glad I don't stay in their, as I peeked they looked very uncomfortable. The grounds had a pool, playground, meditation labyrinth, tiny chapel, a rope wall, and a short hiking trail to a cross overlooking the camp. I saw deer, and a ton of wild turkeys! So very very nice. Another nice thing is it is 20 mins away from the town of Hinton and the Grand Canyon state park! So after the retreat I took a short detour and explored those areas. VERY VERY NICE, I would highly recommend for those planning a event, (wedding! Retreat! Family reunion!) very relaxing.

It had a bedroom and a loft with another bed upstairs (both beds were full size). The kitchen has a microwave and stove, but no oven. It also has a refrigerator. There is a small TV with Direct TV if there's a game or something you just can't miss. There is also decent cell service (we have AT&T) and WiFi access. The bathroom had just a shower, which isn't a big deal for many people, but something to keep in mind if you have kids that only take baths. You have to bring your own linens. This is located on base at Fort Sill, but I believe people without a military ID can access the area with a visitors pass. In addition to cabins are tent sites and RV sites. You don't have to be camping to use the beach and other amenities like the playgrounds after paying an entrance fee. The beach has a lifeguard on duty and a facility with restrooms/showers. There is a little room for improvement when it comes to maintenance. There was peeling paint on our cabin, spiderwebs in many places outside, and a piece missing on our bench on the porch. There were seagull feathers and (dog?) poop all over the beach. Two of the three playgrounds were covered with overgrown grass (but to be fair one had a sign saying it was undergoing maintenance). Overall, I thought it was a great value at $90 per night. It's nothing fancy, but our cabin was perfect for "glamping" and the area is beautiful with picturesque views of Mount Scott. It was a nice, relaxing escape and I look forward to visiting again!

I've visited the playground area at Martin Park Nature Center several times since moving to…read moreOklahoma, but this was my first time actually going inside the nature center itself and honestly... it was so much cooler than I expected. The exhibits focus on animals local to Oklahoma and include a mix of live animals, taxidermy displays, and educational models. The space itself is not huge, but it's laid out incredibly well and packed with information without feeling overwhelming. One of my favorite parts was how interactive and welcoming the staff and park rangers were. They seemed genuinely happy to answer questions and engage with kids about the animals and exhibits they were interested in, which made the experience feel much more personal and educational. I also learned that they host both family-focused and adult-focused events throughout the year, which definitely made me want to come back and explore more of what they offer. Another practical bonus: there are bathrooms inside the nature center itself, which is always helpful when spending time at the park. This ended up being such a fun and surprisingly educational afternoon and I'd absolutely recommend it for families, nature lovers, or anyone looking for a low-cost activity in OKC.

It's been tough the last few months due to the over 100 degree days in a row. I lived in Las Vegas for years and when it hit the hundreds I would drive an hour away to Mt Charleston and hike their many trails and the temperature would be around 25 degrees lower. Unfortunately not a place to do this in Oklahoma that I've found yet. Anyway , this was my first time in Edmond and I had read before about this place in nearby OKC. The one thing that worried me was all the comments about the ticks. I hate ticks ! I decided to go anyway , since I was here and of course my spray that I have for ticks and bugs I left at home , I usually have in my backpack that I keep in my truck. Parking lot was good size and had a couple of port o johns. I talked to a fellow patron and he said he's been pretty lucky about not getting ticks and he does the trails often. I have a military like hat I use for hikes and it has a pull out flap that covers your neck , so I put it on and pulled up my socks. A few steps away from the parking lot is a Ranger Station / Visitor Center. They have a small display , but it is pretty good. Some live animals like turtles swimming , snakes , etc. They have a cool display of different insects and an interactive area with a racoon , owl , and such that you push a button to hear them make their noises. The Ranger was there telling some kids and parents about some animals and such. I was told he is very friendly and helpful. They also have several taxidermy animals like a armadillo , skunk , and a racoons eating cracker jacks. There are lots of trees for coverage from the sun. A lookout deck over a pond filled with turtles sunbathing on platforms. I saw a crane also in the water and a large bird flying above like a hawk or buzzard in the distance. They have several short trails and I'm used to doing much longer ones like 8 or 9 miles , these are like 1 or 2 miles. As I started the first one I met up with a couple of deer. A doe and a fawn. The fawn go a little close to me then walked away then the doe came up to me about 6 feet away. I guess some people may be feeding them and that's why they got so close to a human. I came up to another observation deck with a bunch of stairs you can climb up to. There was a couple people on it. I only did 2 short trails due to how hot it was. I would like to come back again when it is cooler. When I got back to the parking lot I took off my hat and checked it for ticks , took off my shirt and did the same , checked my shoes and laces and socks. No ticks thankfully. I will definitely bring my spray next time. I would hate to get bitten by the ones that will make you no longer able to eat meat without getting sick. That would be terrible since I love bbq , fried chicken , and a good steak. I thought Rocky Mounted Spotted Fever was bad , but dang !

We drove all the way from to Houston to kayak here! This is the whitewater course where the canoe…read moreand kayak events will be held for the LA Olympics. It was about $33 a day for the kayak pass, which gives you access to the whitewater course. You need to bring your own kayak for this pass, and I'm not sure if they do rentals. It was very fun with an easier and a more difficult course, and there's a conveyor belt that takes you up to the top. While this was fun, I don't think some of the staff were doing their jobs well. There was someone releasing tubers right in front of our boats coming down. They clearly weren't looking out for kayakers beforehand, and this was such a safety issue. Some of the staff at the counter also did not seem to know how to check people in. Before our visit, we called multiple times during their business hours, but they never answered.
