Bend RV Resort to Cathi's Place, a tale of two parks!…read more Bend RV had every imaginable amenity you could want; it had the feel of a five star hotel. But it lacked one thing you could tell that the personnel running the park didn't really seem to be involved with the guests. Think Biltmore servants with there own stairs and passage ways so the guests weren't disturbed. Then we went to Cath's Place in Hines/Burns. It was a Saturday and she came out a greeted us like we were old friends. Cathi will try and greet all her guests, but she has a postal job that requires her to be gone 4 hours a day. She also works on all her equipment herself, while making her little slice of earth come alive with flowers and amenities. She has plans to expand but that will have to wait until she has the time and money to do it right. What I witnessed on Saturday night around nine, we were taking our dogs out for the last time before bed. People were coming to her park broke down (broken water hose) and they came to the park in their tow car, she stayed with them until the wrecker came and set their coach in place and hooked up. When I remarked that she went above and beyond the call of duty. She said, "That's what people do for each other."

Pamela G.'s review is spot on. May/June = Mosquitos. Wildlife = birds. Haha. The visitor center is…read morebeautiful, the pond is picturesque and the birds are plentiful, though you hear a lot more than you see. Maybe I just don't have the eye for birding. Janet, in the info center as you first walk in, was very helpful with brochures and directions and recommendations. We walked around the center, checked out the museum (who knew how many different birds were black with white markings, but each very distinct?), took a bunch of pictures and yes, we were immediately swarmed by mosquitos when we got out of the car. Bring your repellent! We took the short gravel road drive down to Wrights pond, because this is the highest the water has been in 15 years and Janet said there was an abundance of wildlife right by your feet. Not wrong, we saw a deer, and hundreds of birds. Really unique area to explore, this little oasis in the middle of the desert and at the foot of the mountains.

I have never seen so many different species of bird anywhere. What a treasure this is for…read morewildlife, the world habitat and the country. I felt like I was in an Aviary, in fact, when I closed my eyes it felt like the Amazon must feel in the deep jungle with hundreds of different kinds of birds singing and squawking in every direction. And oh what birds they are. I am not a birder so I had no idea what many of the birds were, but I did recognize the Western Tanager, Goldfinch, Great Horned owl chick, and pelicans. The rest of them were called, "Wow! Look at that!", birds. If you go in late late May, early June, cover your body and use mosquito repellent where you're exposed. We were just passing through, but now that I know what a treasure Malheur is and that the best time of year is in March/April I'll be back for more than a few hours.

Found this looking for a site close to Smith Rock with showers on our van trip thru Oregon. Only 3…read morecamps here plus the host trailer but never saw them. Sites are all paved on a hill overlooking the lake. All have fire pits, picnic tables and a water pump nearby. One closer to the entrance could hookup to a hose. In between the loop of camps is a nice shaded grassy area. The bathrooms are coded, warm and clean with two hot water showers and a hand dryer by the sinks. The lake was very quiet no one on it but could be used for boating. It has a strong odor like urine that carries up to the camp. Probably not a swimming lake. The highway is very close so you do hear road traffic all night. It is not a secure campground and people come in late at night and leave early.

We then proceeded to call the county parks office to get a spot that wasn't taken, she gave us no other option than a spot right next to the bathroom and in between the walking paths. Then we were given an invalid code to the bathroom. The camp host shows up and doesn't even acknowledge us. We found out she was the chick laying right in front of us at spot 30 saying she doesn't know who the camp host is. Then 22:00 rolls around and our camp neighbors are a bunch of teenagers talking about guns and shooting from long distances (from home to their school) until 01:00 (why I didn't get up to ask them politely to be quiet since we have an early morning). The camp host didn't go around or even close the gate at 22:00 to make sure that everyone is following the camp quiet hours. I hope they never hire this camp host again. She is rude, obnoxious, and flat out doesn't do her job. This place is beautiful and I was hoping to enjoy it but I was asking too much by wanting a camp host that does their job.
