Spotted on the way the the Pho place down the road the other day, so when my wife asked for Lengua this morning, I swung by Da Scene: Little white truck, streetside parking, couple of seats, but perfect for 2 lazy to cook weeknights when basketball practice went long. Da Grub: Standard burritos, tacos, quesadillas, nachos and tortas are supplemented by an array of options: Bacon or Steak fries, tempura, sopes, tamales, pupusas, oh my! I was on a mission for Lengua, so I asked if he would make me a Plato, and BOY did he (see pics) Rice, beans and Crispy, but tender diced Lengua were paired with a nice side of grilled veggies, 2 thick homemade tortillas, Pico, red & green salsa, guacamole, sour cream, pickled peppers & carrots and chips... DUDE that's a Plato! If this Togo plate is any indication, it will be fun trying more items. Da Service: Nice folks, fairly quick. I ordered off menu, and they gladly accommodated. Another spot near home for quick meals of real food... so happy. Variety & quality is a plus, pricing inline w/ quality, portion value appreciated - can't wait to try out the rest of the menu.

She seemed to have an attitude. Price came out to $54. Felt I was overcharged but didn't say anything. Tacos were pretty bad. The asada was hard and dry. The chicken was not of good quality either. Although the corn tortillas were packaged they were local, fresh and nicely browned yet still soft. The carnitas came in a tomato and chile based sauce that was delicious in spite of the steak being a little chewy. My wife had the chicken fajitas that were tender with fresh scallions and bell pepper. They came with nice chewy flour tortillas. We arrived about 11:30 and were pleased to find they made our food to order. There is some seating behind the truck to get you away from traffic, a port-a-potty, and kick-ass hot sauce on the table. Nice beans too. Gas and go and gas, what more can you ask for?

Yes, even better than Mexico. The last time I was in California, COVID was not in our lexicon. Admidst the sea of gourmet dining options in Michelin star restaurants in the area, I just wanted a good freaking burrito. One with heaps of tender and flavorful shredded beef. Not all of that carne asada or *gasp* ground beef. The name of this food truck alone was enough to make me hit a mean u-turn and check it out. When I tell you I was not disappointed.... The first thing I noticed is that they sell birria tacos, which are my obsession at the moment. Naturally I had to get an order of those. After I placed my order, I asked the doña of the truck if it was possible for her to make me a burrito with the same shredded beef used in the quesabirra tacos. I might as well have asked her if she had two eyes because she gave me an enthusiastic "yes" like it was the most obvious thing in the world. I knew I was in for a treat, but I had no idea it was going to be this good. First of all, this burrito weighed about as much as a newborn baby. I'm not exaggerating when I said I literally needed two hands to eat it. And it took me 3 days... THREE FREAKING DAYS... to finish it. It wasn't for lack of trying, believe me. I actually arranged for a later hotel check out my last day in town so that I would have time to enjoy them properly before heading to the airport. They were totally worth the effort. If this is how good they were reheated, I can only imagine what they were like fresh. First of all, the tacos were huge. HUGE!! Truthfully, I was full after the first one but there was no way I was going to leave the other two behind. The consommé and a squirt of fresh lime juice just took them over the top. Un.Freaking.Believable. Believe me, if there was a way for me to get an extra order or two home on a cross country flight, I would have absolutely done that. What I loved the most is that the doña of the truck was so humble about her food. Several times she asked me to let her know how I liked the food and if it was okay. I more than "liked" it. Those were single-handedly two of the greatest things that have ever blessed my tastebuds. An unspeakably delicious way to satisfy a craving.

And, as the old saying goes...you know it's a good taco truck if you see a bunch of people (actually Mexicans) in line out front. Never saw too many peeps here, so I'd passed over it several times. But, decided to give 'em a shot while having tire work done next door. Never tried their restaurant down the road either. Order this 1st time: 2 tacos, 1 chicken, 1 asada. Figured if I didn't like 'em, it wouldn't be much of a gamble? However, I was more than satisfied. The tacos are price-pointed at $3 here (as opposed to several trucks where sub-$3 bites can still be found), but the meats used are noticeably better quality than those used at the cheaper trucks. And are slightly larger than those typical 2-3 bite tacos. The free chips included in your bag aren't anything special (hard, cold n' greasy), but I don't typically rate a truck on their free chips. Looking forward to returning to try other items like their burritos, etc. on return visits. First try was a winner.
