We have loved Friends of the Stockton Public Library for years, and it never disappoints. There's…read moretruly nothing like a small bookstore like this anymore--it brings back such a sense of nostalgia and wonder every time we visit. They receive tons of book donations from the community, which makes each trip feel fresh since there's always something new in rotation. The prices are amazing too--I walked out with 4 books for under $20, which is such a steal. The staff is friendly, the bookstore is clean and well organized, and the overall atmosphere is welcoming and calm. This place is a staple in Stockton, and we keep coming back again and again. Highly recommend supporting local!

I really want to give this place a better rating, as I am typically a fan of used bookstores but I…read morewas disappointed almost the minute I walked in. The way the sections are set up and alphabetized is very confusing and makes no sense at all. There are piles of books stacked haphazardly around the store and even books on carts sitting in the aisles. There were CD's mixed in with books and even some vinyl were scattered about the store with no apparent designated place for them to be. I understand with customers coming and going, it can be hard to stay on top of these things, but as someone that has retail book experience, it looks as if this place isn't even trying. They do have a decent selection of recent publications, however you would have to spend the entire day in order to find them. The used book pricing is enticing, but not enough to waste one's time inside.

Just the off chance you're African American and is interested in looking for comics at this…read moreestablishment, I would kindly recommend you go to Al's Comic Book shop on Miracle Mile. When I entered the store, the person behind the counter immediately questioned me on why I was coming in the store today. I replied, by stating I wanted to browse. Honestly I see this comic shop a lot and never had the time to come by and I wanted to check it out while waiting for my order to be ready at Best Lumpia. The shop owner then asked what I was interested in, I told him my husband really likes American comics and then I was going to tell him that I am more into Anime/Manga, but I never got the chance. He stopped me in the middle of my statement when he noticed I had my purse on me (which was medium sized) and told me I would have to leave it on the front counter if I wanted to look inside his store. Now, when I say that I know he has the right to say that, (especially since it's off Thorton Rd. and in Stockton)... the whole thing just gave me the "ick". It was such a turn off. I responded by saying "okay" and then left. Going forward I plan to stick to Al's Comics, Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

This place is craptastic…read more Everything is over-priced by a massive amount, the whole store is pretty messy and feels like a garage-sale, the employees are rude and overbearing, and they have the most poorly-run Magic (trading card game) tournaments I've ever seen. They have a selection of comic/game figurines that have been sitting in the store for years, untouched, because of how overpriced they are, same with their old used videogames. They charge $30 for $10 card, as an example. They have no bathroom, yet host 30~person 4 hour tournaments. Every other store I've gone to for tournaments allows food and drinks, yet the owner here will always tell you to take it outside, yet they sell snacks and drinks inside. What the fuck? Poorly organized, haphazard, unprofessional, and downright incompetent is how I would describe it all. Avoid it, you'll be so glad you did. Any online retailer or other local game store is about a million times better.
