I arrived early for my 1:30pm appointment and was able to complete my new patient paper work before my scheduled appointment time. After waiting 75 minutes(so now it's 2:45pm), I asked the very nice lady at the front desk if she knew how much longer it might be. she apologized and checked... she then says there were still 5 patients ahead of me, back in waiting rooms, waiting to be seen by the doctor. Another patient who had been waiting an hour voiced her concerns as well and a gentleman from the doctor's office poked his head out from a back area and almost sarcastically said "well, we only have one doctor" as if it was our fault for having the audacity to schedule an appointment that they accepted. I understand sometimes things happen outside of your control, but whoever is managing the scheduling here needs a reality check. This was the most disrespectful waste of people's time I've ever experienced during a scheduled appointment.

This was my first visit to a retina specialist and I wish someone had provided me with more…read moreinformation. I would suggest that you have someone accompany you to drive home. Everyone was very nice and each one introduced themselves before starting what ever test I was having done in that room. You will move to different rooms where different tests are done and I had a lot of drops put into my eyes. Then, depending on what the doctor finds, you might have to have an IV started and dye injected. That one caught me totally off guard. The lights are dimmed in each room so as not to blind you. Driving home, even sunglasses provided little help and I was extremely nervous driving. So, that's my "what you might expect " information that I wish I had had before my visit. The waiting room was clean and bright and, as I said before, everyone was professional, empathetic, patient, and just down right kind.

I was given options to pay a cash rate but every time it came up, the cash rate got more expensive. It started at $300, went up to $350 and now the bill has been sent to collections as $400. I shouldn't have to pay anything as I was told the insurance was straightened out. If it were I would've had a $0 copay. Dr. Phillips, while nice during his appointments, will not get involved in billing issues. Apparently, he would rather just send disputes to collections, wrecking his patients credit. Unfortunately, during my last appointment on April 14, she told me as she entered the room that she was no longer taking my medical insurance. I had the choice of leaving or paying out of pocket. Since I was already there, I paid out of pocket. When I got home I called my insurance company. I have an Aetna Advantage Plan and also a government plan, CHAMPVA because of my veteran husbands disability. CHAMPVA said that they would cover the bill if I could provide them with a notice from the Dr. office that they were no longer accepting AETNA. I called back on April 14, April 16, April 17, April 20 and April 23 and requested that the office supply me with a statement on their letterhead indicating that they were no longer accepting AETNA. Each time I called I was told that they would send a note to the Dr. I am still waiting for the notice.
