Everyone was very nice and each one introduced themselves before starting what ever test I was having done in that room. You will move to different rooms where different tests are done and I had a lot of drops put into my eyes. Then, depending on what the doctor finds, you might have to have an IV started and dye injected. That one caught me totally off guard. The lights are dimmed in each room so as not to blind you. Driving home, even sunglasses provided little help and I was extremely nervous driving. So, that's my "what you might expect " information that I wish I had had before my visit. The waiting room was clean and bright and, as I said before, everyone was professional, empathetic, patient, and just down right kind.

If this is absolutely the only doctor office that takes your insurance then go there. Otherwise…read morestay away as far as possible. Not only you'll spend hours waiting also they have no show fee of 35$ that they'll not only send you bill but also call you and send you mail with threats to send it to collection if you won't pay. Oh and you have to notify them 48 hours prior to your appointment to avoid that. At the same time their doctors can reschedule you at anytime with no problems. Nobody cares about patients time at this office.

Right now I am still able to see my desired physician, usually at a convenient time, for me. However, the wait times are getting longer and there are times when a patient has to go sit in the hall because the waiting room is completely filled. Keep in mind, it always takes 2 to 3 hours per visit so I don't want to see reviews with people complaining about having to wait. I am not sure if there are ever 2 physicians present to provide care. It has grown from 2 physicians to 8 and 1 of the original physicians is no longer there. I will keep you posted about the quality of care provided.

The whole place seemed extremely chaotic.The pre exam rooms had no ceiling and you could hear the exam next to you.. very old outdated building.After 25 min the first lady took me.. she did tests after she was done she said I have to see if they want me to do more of course they did.I was then brought to another lady she did more testing....they brought to a man he did more testing..I feel this was all to prolong the situation because the dr was backed up.They really need to stop over booking.The patients time is valuable too. I brought my 17 month old son in, and after check in the medical assistant nonchalantly informed me the wait would be 60-90 minutes because the doctor "travels between offices." I did a full double take because surely I misheard. But no, I was just distracted by my toddler climbing the eye exam chair that looked like it was out of a 1940s black and white silent horror film. They told me I "should have been informed when I made the appointment," because apparently this is standard practice. In what world? It felt like the old Seinfeld bit: they know how to take the reservation... they just don't know how to hold the reservation. I told them I'd come back in an hour, because trying to entertain a toddler in a waiting room packed like a cattle car and on its fifth episode of Dragon Tales, was not on my to-do list. Their box of broken crayons can only entertain for so long and last I checked I wasn't a magician and can't pull 90 minutes of toddler entertainment out of thin air. To be fair, the medical assistant and doctor were polite, efficient, and clearly doing their best. The front desk staff, however, seemed to be locked in a competition for the Most Unapproachable Human. It was a photo finish. I left with my son's eyes checked and mine rolling as a 2-minute exam turned into a two hour ordeal.

If you don't know, at the retina office, you go from room to room for different tests and drops in your eyes. Multiple people are touching you. Yes, the doctors are accomplished, but when I asked a question, the doctor answered and then asked "can I go on now?" Wait, what? since when is it a bad thing for a patient to ask questions? I was made to feel like I would only become a number if I came here for treatment. I was very uncomfortable and decided to seek treatment elsewhere.

After interacting with the staff and Dr Horio, we were convinced we went to a terrific place. Dr. Horio explained her medical condition so we could understand it. He was in no means in a hurry to perform a surgery. He wanted her to try some non evasive procedure. Eventually she did need surgery. He is a very knowledgeable, personable and spends a great deal of time with his patients. Was easy to make an appointment and his staff is wonderful. Makes you feel like we all knew each other for a long time.

I recounted a recent bad optometrist experience (elsewhere) to a coworker, who suggested I see an…read moreopthalmologist. This was especially important, she thought, since I had recovered from a torn retina and really should seek specialists when it comes to my eyes. She was completely right, of course. I found Dr. Lam via positive Yelp and Google reviews. I'm so thankful that I did! He was personable and very thorough in his exam. He explained that the blurred vision in my post-surgical eye (from the pneumatic retinopexy/retina surgery) was in fact cataracts. He indicated that I was overdue for surgery since my vision was so negatively impacted. Dr. Lam did my cataract surgery about a month later. It was deemed a success with at least 20/20 vision. Unfortunately, there was blurring over my lens. Dr. Lam explained that I'd need a follow-up laser procedure. Dr. Lam did this laser surgery, a capsulotomy, a few days ago. After resting/napping later that afternoon, I opened my eyes and had clear, unencumbered vision out of my 2x surgery eye! This is the first time I've had at least 20/20 since 1st grade! It's been a long 13 month journey with two eye surgeries and 1 minor procedure, but thankfully, my vision is even better than it was. Dr. Lam is very experienced. In my opinion, he uses tools to accurately and fully assess one's eyes. I felt 100% comfortable with him at all times (a little less with some Medical Technicians if I'm being honest..). He's answered all questions, often fully explaining/anticipating questions even before I have a chance to ask. He also approached treatment more conservatively; for example, he recommended waiting several months post-cataract surgery before having the capsulotomy since lasering too early could re-tear my retina. My capsulotomy was nearly 13 months after my retinal surgery. I'm thankful to Dr. Lam and have great confidence in his abilities! I'm so happy to have found such a capable opthalmologist.
