1 STAR -- Extremely Disappointing Experience
My experience with Chicago Title was unacceptable from beginning to end. For approximately $1,200 in escrow fees, I expected, at a minimum, accurate documents, clear instructions, timely communication, and properly issued funds. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
It has now been a WEEK since closing and I still have not received a commission check that I can actually deposit. It took three days just to receive my proceeds check after closing.
The signing experience was equally frustrating. The mobile notary arrived late and then rushed me through the signing. I became extremely uncomfortable when she wanted to photograph documents containing sensitive personal information with her phone to transmit electronically. When I questioned the process and declined to provide my Social Security number without being comfortable with how it was being handled, she became irritated with me. A real estate closing involving highly sensitive financial and personal information should be handled with care and professionalism--not frustration because a client asks questions.
Then there were the documents themselves. My name was misspelled on nearly every document, including the WARRANTY DEED. I had to correct my own name over and over throughout the signing package. How does something that fundamental make it all the way to the closing table without being caught?
The settlement statement also contained errors. Communication was poor throughout the process. Calls were not returned promptly, instructions were unclear, and even my Realtor had difficulty reaching Celeste and the office in a timely manner.
Mistakes can happen. What makes an experience truly disappointing is when there are repeated mistakes, poor communication, delays involving people's money, and seemingly little concern about getting things right.
Escrow and title companies are entrusted with some of the most important documents, funds, and personal information involved in a real estate transaction. Accuracy and responsiveness aren't extras--they ARE the job.
After paying approximately $1,200 for escrow services, I should not have had to proofread my own legal documents, chase down answers, wait days for proceeds, and still be trying to obtain a usable commission check a week after closing.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Chicago Title. read more
