When it came to my turn, I felt like the two barbers didn't want to cut my hair, it was like they were making excuses and slowed down so that they didn't have to be the one to cut my hair. I can hear them smirking and making little comments to one another. I showed a photo of how I wanted my hair to be cut and it sure didn't look like that when finished. When I got home, I took out my hair clipper and had to re-trim it myself. The vibe of this barbershop was off this time. I was 10 minutes early and Matt at first didn't say anything to me. Then said "oh are you David" after he was sitting there just on his phone. Then sighed and said "seems like everyone is just going to be early today". Which if you are trying to live up to "Grumpy Barber" they definitely did. Most importantly how was the hair cut? I showed him a picture of my standard haircut which is very straight forward and the majority of it is a buzz. He did it super fast and was super aggressive with my head. Shook it around all the time to get hair off which was not a pleasant experience. Then he was very pushy about giving a tip afterwards. When I got home I found a ton of uneven cuts and had to redo my haircut. That's always the worst thing afterwards. If you go here I hope you have a better experience than I did!

Back in the Chair -- and Glad I Came Back…read more A little backstory: I used to go to Lady Jane's in Cary for years, but after my go-to stylist left, it became hit or miss. I gave it a few more chances, but eventually started shopping around -- trying barbers in Cary, Raleigh, and Apex. Nothing really clicked. Fast forward to last week -- I had an upcoming business trip and badly needed a haircut. Figured I'd give LJ's another shot as a walk-in. TL;DR: Stoked I found Felicia! Longer version: Felicia asked what I was looking for, so I showed her a photo of myself with the length and style I wanted. She was confident, knew exactly what to do, and got started right away. Weird twist -- my hair wasn't playing nice with her clippers. No problem. Without missing a beat, she switched over to a classic scissor cut to keep things moving. Honestly? I prefer the scissor cut anyway, and with her decades of experience, she clearly knew what she was doing. Bonus: Felicia's got stories. Between her skill and her personality, it turned a routine haircut into a fun, easy appointment. Will I go back? Yeppers! Will I ask for Felicia and a scissor cut? Without question.

Over the past few years, they have been that dependable old school barbershop that's needed. With walk-in service (no appointments, first come-first serve) and taking cash only (no credit cards, but there is an ATM on site), this little shop does what it does well. At this writing, they are open Mon-Tues and Thurs-Fri for business. I've had great visits with all the barbers here and always have a solid outcome. Within the last year or so, the interior has had an update and it looks nice while keeping that old school barbershop atmosphere/vibe. While the price has gone up a little bit over the years (as expected over time), it's still a pretty reasonable price for barber services. Going with all the stars for these guys, thanks!

I decided last minute to get a fresh cut for Easter weekend (1am Saturday morning lol ) I was able to book an appointment for 930am right online. I booked my appointment with Jorge. Straight up... Jorge is a master at his craft. Wow. He did exactly what I wanted and more (mid/high fade, scissor trim up top). He took his time. Explained how and what he was doing and why. My hair came out perfect. He explained how to tame my cowlick in the back of my head. He cut the back to minimize the chance of bumps. The exfoliating wash was great I was about to fall asleep. He even showed me some tips on how to betters style my hair. lol. When I tell you I was ready to make my next app before he finished... I ain't exaggerating. Unfortunately, my last appointment was a frustrating experience. The day of my appointment, it was suddenly changed to another barber and then moved from my original 10:30 AM time to 5:30 PM without any notice. When I called the shop, I was told that I had called to reschedule, which was not true. I asked to be placed back in my original slot since the double booking was not my fault. When I arrived, Natalie was not there and her station was empty. No one explained what happened or answered my questions about whether she still worked there. The haircut I received also did not come out the way I asked. Because of the lack of communication, I will not be returning. After a long search, I was able to find Natalie again in downtown Raleigh. The real test for me, of course, is what does my hair look like the next day when I wash it and brush it. And I'm happy to say I'm still as pleased with it as when I walked out of the shop.
