I recently visited Chicago Ramen for the first time and unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. It appeared that there was only one young girl, probably in her late teens or early twenties, doing all the work--serving, running food, bussing tables, and even preparing dishes. There were two cooks, but it seemed like one spent most of the time in the back, and the other was frequently absent, only appearing when summoned. At one point, a bell rang from a tablet, presumably alerting for an online order. The poor waitress called out multiple times for help, but when no one responded, she went to the back to fetch one of the cooks. Eventually, she ended up making the order herself! (Kudos to her for being so hard-working and talented though!) Once I put my order in, both chefs soon came out from the back at the same time to make my food, but it felt like it took ages for my chicken ramen to be prepared (around 10-15 minutes), while my waitress managed to make and serve my sushi and edamame all on her own in less than half that time. She was clearly trying her best in a tough situation, and I really felt for her--she deserves a raise! To make matters worse, the atmosphere was unbearable due to a broken air conditioning system, making it feel like the inside was about 95 degrees. They had large fans circulating the hot air, but that hardly made it comfortable since they were just circulating more hot air. Adding to the frustration, they were out of all regular drinks/sodas and only offered the Japanese Ramune drinks, which were decent but quite sugary. I see potential in this place, and I genuinely want to come back, but until they improve their chef staffing situation, fix the air conditioning, and restock the beverages and children's menu, I won't be returning anytime soon. read more

We walked in last night and the restaurant was dirty. Our server, Julia, was the only person working the floor. She was the hostess, the server & the busboy. It was horrific service & not due to lack of effort on Julia's part. The owners or managers need to use a temp service or get in there and work themselves. Young lady that took my order and charged me, took my receipt, which I never got a copy of, sat down, she completely ignored me, my order. Well well, it OPENED!!!! Its a small, very auténtic Japanese space. Great for after school or after work. A little on the pricey side but it way over compensate in the taste. Service is still a little on the slow side but they are great people and really really friendly. Definitely a place I will be coming back and enjoy other dishes. When we found out that Chicago Ramen was opening a location fairly close to where we live we knew we had to try it! We planned a little date night that ended us up at this quaint location. When we arrived it was fairly busy which was good to see! After a small bit of confusion we were greeted and pointed to a spot for us to dine. We got the one of the miso ramens, a chicken karrage appetizer, and a rice bowl. The food tasted excellent, to no surprise, however we were surprised by the portions. Maybe it's just the American culture in us, but we were perplexed to see how much smaller the portions felt. However, they did not disappoint. We both left perfectly satisfied and felt brave enough to make a trip to grab some dessert elsewhere without feeling the need to adjust any belts. All of the staff were very friendly, and looked calm and relaxed despite the full dining room as well as the ample amount of help it appeared they had. We will definitely come back if we are in the area to try other dishes! read more

We ordered take out so I can't say what their service is like. But I got their vegetarian ramen and my family split a chicken ramen. I have to say I appreciate that their veggie one was so flavorful which I was so happy about. My kiddos really love ramen it was just a bit spicy for them. My husband had the beef Japanese hot dog which he said was super good but I think super expensive for just some meat on a small hotdog bun and no side or anything. The menu online REALLY needs descriptions and Ingredients listed. I had to go on their Des plaines location and compare menus to know what the heck we were getting. So that's why 4 stars. It's 2023. Asked for a spicy tuna rice bowl thinking it was going to be cooked tuna. It came out to the table and I politely asked the server that we didn't expect it to be raw so they took it back. Bill comes and they still charged me for it which I then asked how come they charged me if I didn't want it anymore. The server then replied "because you asked for it" I then said "right but if I didn't want it then why would you take it back, you can't just take it off the bill?" I am completely and utterly disappointed in my spicy red miso ramen. I've been to multiple ramen shops in chicago and surrounding suburbs. This was a clear last place shop for me. We were given tap water without ice (?). Service was decent and the ambiance was chill. We got takoyaki and it was mid at most. I was confused when I was given my bowl, it looked very murky and chunky (?). The spice was decent as well but I think that's all I can say about my bowl. Not a fan of the flat fettuccine style noodles. It looked very sloppily made. Only come here when you're unsober. I finished my food because my momma told me never to waste food. Was excited to try this place, not sure how long it's been open. I've been to one of their other locations and l loved it, so I had high hopes. I'm also taking into account that they seemed somewhat short staffed (literally there was a hiring sign when we walked in) and there was a handful of people at the restaurant. First thing I noticed, everything seemed unorganized and messy. The restaurant itself seemed like the layout wasn't really thought out well. They had large industrial fans out to keep air circulating (I guess this could be good or bad, it depends what kind of customer you are) A lot of cutlery was just out and about. There were a pair of crocks I noticed underneath a storage rack right next to the kitchen just laying there . Our waitress seemed very nonchalant about being at work (flirting with coworkers, taking pictures at work, and just speaking in a certain tone while walking throughout the restaurant) . Our appetizer got mixed with another order. When we asked them about our apps, they were getting ready to make it but then the waitress said they only had two pieces of chicken left for our order, when there was 1.5 hours left until closing. We got a free sushi roll out of it, but the sushi itself was kind of underwhelming. The rice was over cooked and really mushy, the flavor itself was very barbecue-like, like Texas Roadhouse. The ramen was good, broth was very rich and flavorful. The noodles were cooked perfectly and chewy, the marinated egg was jammy and had a nice soy flavor, but the pork was unevenly cut and some parts of it were still a little cold (it was fully cooked though) The chicken karaage itself (the last two pieces left in the restaurant) was bland and not crispy. Honestly, I think if they had enough staff and were more organized, the restaurant and food would've been more enjoyable.
