They also use a technique where they're doing a plank using your butt which was a little unique but still felt good. Everyone here was super polite and not really talkative. Pleasantly surprised that both our therapists were Mongolian, which connected the dots for me as to why the name of the business. I haven't met many Mongolian folks in my life. They do tend to use a lot of oil during their massage, so forewarning about that before you go. You'll leave with a little oil residue on your skin. Recently, I have requested that she focus on my head and jaw at the end of my sessions. I clench my jaw at night, and sleep with a retainer, but the clenching became worse due to stress. In the first session where I asked her to focus on my head and jaw, I felt a major difference and lots of relief. I typically only give reviews when it's either a really good experience or a really bad one, so in the case of Chicago Holistic Medicine, I am pleased to be able to give two big thumbs up. I've had massages in places from the Four Seasons to The Phoenician in AZ & while I will continue to get those massages as a nice component of a getaway, while in Chicago, CHM will be my go-to place. For those of you that might be uncomfortable getting a massage (ie. guys) or might feel out of place in a upitty spa, CHM is the perfect place to go. It's low-key, relaxed simple neighbohood vibe, combined with Robert's mellow, relaxing demeaner will put you at ease & the extremely fair pricing will make your wallet as happy as your back, neck, etc. as you walk out the door. For the typically spa-going folks, I would recommend CHM as your place to go when you'd like to increase your message frequency w/o it becoming a second car payment in your budget. Two other positives about Robert is his intake procedure & his accupunture skills. He always takes the time to zero in on what your most pressing issues are & recommend the best personalized treatment. I would also put his accupunture skills in line w/ the Chinese practitioner w/ 30+ yrs experience where I had been going. I was as hesitant to get accupuncture as anyone, but in the right hands you often don't even feel a pin prick. So if Robert recommends it as part of your treatment, make a leap of faith &/or man-up & you will be the better for it! read more

I was recommended to Robert by my brother, who was given an acupuncture visit as a gift from some friends of his. He talked so much about Robert's work that when I started suffering unbearable carpal tunnel symptoms and a terrible pain in my shoulder blade area, which I believe were a side effect of my current pregnancy, I contacted Robert to see if he could help me. At my first visit, he spent probably 30 to 45 minutes just asking me questions about ME - what I do, what I like, how my health has been/changed recently, and of course, about my ailments. He explained things to me about my energy and my pulse, and how certain points are connected to different organs in my body. He then combined acupuncture and massage techniques to address my issues. At subsequent visits, he would ask about my sleep, my mood, and other things that I'd never think to bring up, and he addressed those issues as well as my initial 2 ailments! When Robert sensed I didn't need him anymore, he told me so, instead of milking me for more appointments than necessary! By my last visit, I felt that I'd made a new friend in Robert; you should definitely consider contacting Robert! read more

Robert is an amazing and masterful acupuncturist and massage therapist. I am well versed in Holistic medicine and have had my fair share of massages and no one has come close to comparing to Robert. I originally came in to try acupuncture to help with mild scholiosis, and I ended up experiencing an entire life transformation. The treatments I received had an insurmountably positive effect on me physically, emotionally and spiritually. Robert helped me with my back, circulation, digestive system, quitting smoking (!), libido, chronic illness, and general emotional well-being. In the beginning I refused to try herbs and when I did finally succumb to Robert's request, I experienced very effective results. He makes a customized formula that fits your needs and since I began taking them I have a much higher energy level, and feel much more stable and generally healthy. Robert is thorough in assessment, giving careful attention to the many causes and conditions that comprise balance in health. He has a holistic understanding of how the mind and body complement each other. He answered my questions clearly, and was excellent in communicating. I find him very easy to speak to without feeling awkward or embarrassed to explain symptoms. He is a careful and conscientious listener, remembering details after only being told once. This approach of taking the whole person, not just symptoms, into consideration gave rise to individualistic treatment, insightfully knowing what would work best in my case. His ability to be present and centered enabled me to relax completely during an acupuncture treatment. The results of the treatment were immediate and gave much relief to a painful shoulder, menstrual disorder, and overall, I felt a rebalancing quality. About 2 years ago I was going through a very stressful time and had extreme stomach problems and was gaining weight. I was reading the Chicago Time Out magazine and read a quick review on Robert, I decided to try him out- couldn't hurt! Well after just a few weekly sessions I couldn't believe how well I was sleeping and I no longer had stomach issues. I learned to manage my stress level and Robert decided we should have monthly sessions. I was feeling great so I took the summer off. At the end of May I found out I was 3 months pregnant! Great news the ONLY issue I had was sinus pressure headaches so I called Robert for an emergency session. I went in told him about the headaches he worked on my sinus, haven't had a headache from that point. All it took was 1 session!!!!!! I will be working with Robert again in the next coming months so I can prepare myself for a healthy natural delivery hopefully without any medication. I have felt so good at Robert's and while I'm away. I anticipating my returns knowing he will provide the comfort I seek.. I did not go to Robert for several months even though a friend of mine recommended I do so. I fell and broke my tailbone in Feb 08 and "just hoped" it would eventually heal on its own. However, each month passed and I kept experiencing mild to moderate pain near the break and at other points in my body. After a vacation and experiencing a great deal of pain around my tailbone and trailing down to my feet, I "gave in". Now I ask myself why I waited? I have been feeling relief from the first acupuncture. I anticipate a few more regular visits before I'll be ready for maintenance acupuncture/massage every quarter. More than just the treatment of symptoms is the way Robert is keenly aware of how those symptoms are influenced by the mind and spirit , In his gentle, unassuming manner he slowly teaches you to recognize the interconnectedness of all aspects of our being. More important to me than the treatment of my pain was him teaching me to have a better, more-aware relationship with it, and learning how such a relationship teaches me about what is happening in my body and in my life. Every time I leave Robert's office, I feel like I am floating. I have been seeing Robert for acupuncture and massage for almost a year now for chronic daily headaches and occasional migraines. I keep going back because I love how I am feeling through his help and my personal work, mostly for maintenance. A couple of years ago, I first started a weekly treatment with Robert due to my chronic neck and shoulder pain, which involved deep tissue massage, acupuncture, and herbs. A month later, the weekly session became every other week session, then soon once a month just maintanence session. Also, I had a medical issue, which involved immune system. I went to Robert to try to alleviate the pain in my shoulder and neck, which was causing terrible headaches and discomfort. I also have a bad pattern with falling to sleep and relaxation and the pain was aggravating that situation also. Robert applied both acupuncture and massage and with only two sessions the pain is almost all gone and I have been sleeping more soundly. My foot got better with each visit too. Dr. Petrovas gave me a few stretches to do and with the stretches and the therapy I was finally pain free after 2 years of pain in my back and neck, and many years of chronic pain in my foot.
