The front desk seems to run the place now. Our cat goes in every three months for thyroid bloodwork. We had to increase the dose this time and the front desk called in a one month supply of meds to our pharmacy ( who takes two days to compound the med), we asked for a two month supply and they said NO!( even though our cat won't be back for three months). Now we have to call the vet in a month and then the pharmacy to get the meds. They don't give a darn how much trouble they make it to medicate a pet. What a horrible place. I wonder if the vets are aware the front desk does this as it makes no sense!! read more

I came to CCC based on a referral from my vet and a friend after my 9-year-old cat started having urinary issues. After treating him with antibiotics to no avail, I told my vet that he was still using the litter box frequently and had blood in his urine. He suggested CCC because they had better tech and could perform surgeries if needed. They were able to fit me in the following week and after an exam, blood-work, and radiography, determined that my big guy had stones in his bladder and would require surgery to remove them. Mind you, this is all happening around Christmas and New Years, and they were booked solid. Dr. Olenych said she'd get back to me the following day after checking if Drs. Li and Nordwall could squeeze him in. Thankfully they could but I'd have to wait a week. I took him in on Dec. 30th and Dr. Li called me after the surgery to provide updates and that they had removed all the stones and he was recovering. From what I understand, CCC doesn't typically keep cats overnight as they are not a 24 hour clinic, but because he was post-surgery, they said I could pick him up on new year's eve before closing at noon. As promised, they called me the following morning saying he was ready for pick up, and that Dr. Nordwall even came in around 4am to check on him! Yes, that's how caring they are. They sent me home with his meds, canned food, and even an emergency number because even though it's a holiday, Dr. Nordwall said he would be willing to meet me at the clinic if my cat took a turn for the worst. Seriously. If that's not genuine concern and love, I don't know what is. I'm sitting next to my cat right now, back from our speedy follow-up appointment to check how he's healing. He's sleeping soundly, not running to the litter box every few minutes, and honestly, looking more comfortable than he has in months. It's not a requirement for vets to care as much as CCC does. Their entire staff is kind and knowledgeable, and you get the sense that they really care about your cat's well-being. I've even called the clinic on multiple occasions when I had questions and the doctor's got back to me promptly without making me feel like a nuisance. I am so thankful to have the compassionate staff at CCC near me for my cats' needs. If you're like me, looking for the best clinic for your cat and sifting through the reviews and clinics like you're online shopping, take my advice and call CCC. Their Covid procedures are simple to follow (call when you get there, drop carrier in the vestibule) and they'll keep you posted each step of the way. I wouldn't recommend this cat clinic. I brought in my cat Miuska bc she hadn't gone to the bathroom in days and i was extremely worried. the first vet made me 10x more worried than i already was with her frantic energy and what i now realize was exaggerations about my cats condition. i really thought she was going to die in 24 hours by the way she was acting. the second younger vet was a lot calmer about the situation (i went in at least five times) but i didn't like that when i was worried about my cat she randomly tried to sell me a teeth cleaning when i went in for gastro problems. i eventually took my cat to a new vet and just decided to forget about this place that made me spend thousands of dollars and stressed me out unnecessarily. but one day my cat was very very sick and i called here out of desperation and they did nothing to help me and had zero empathy for me and my cat. if you can take your cat literally anyone else i would highly recommend it read more

I believe this place does have the best interest for your pet. If I stayed with this vet, I'd probably have my cat by my side today. My cat of 18 years left me a few days ago. His vet, pets first, didn't diagnose him correctly. Recently, my cat took a dive and I just had to do what none of us wants to do. I went in for a second opinion and Dr. Nordwall saw him for the second time, first time was in April. But due to distance, I stayed with Pet First. When I brought my frail cat in, he asked the questions and I knew what needed to be done. The most difficult decision and heart breaking event you'll ever go through. Dr. Nordwall and Kim from the front desk were beyond supportive. The moment was the most difficult I'd even imagined and ever felt, but they were supportive and gave my boy the love and respect as if he was their own. I was on the phone getting arrangements for him made at hinsdale and I saw Dr. Nordwall walk out of the room with my boy in his arm wrapped in his blanket, and that told me he'd be ok in their arms. My second cat will go to no one but Chicago cat clinic. I don't know of the other doctors at this place, but Dr. Nordwall and Kim are and will be my babies caretakers. Plus, this place and them both mean a lot to me because my boys last time was in their care. read more

After a year of misdiagnoses, and a lot of stress and frustration of not finding a vet that would take the time to understand my cat's sickness, we visited Dr. Larissa. She immediately understood what was going on. She was compassionate and empathetic and was able to explain in detail, and in a way that was easy to understand, what was happening w my cat. She spent more time w us during our appointment than I've ever spent w any other vet and she always made time to speak on the phone when I had questions. I will absolutely continue to see Dr. Larissa and am so grateful I found her at the right time. I highly recommend this hospital if you have a cat. There are a few reviews that claim this vet is a bit more expensive, but the attention they give you and your cat is well worth the cost. read more

I was a feline foster home for 16 years. On hiatus at the moment. I know cats pretty well. I have seen a lot of vets in the last 25 years, more than your average cat parent. Some are great, some are not. I first went to the CCC in 1988 when Dr. Stein (founder and nationally renowned vet) owned and ran the practice. My cats were cared for there exclusively until I moved to the suburbs a few years later and the long trip to Dr. Stein for yearly checkups was too much. For cat care, they are and have been among the best in Chicago for as long as I have been caring for cats. I have taken every cat of mine with a serious illness to the CCC for a second opinion. They have always given me nothing but the best care for my cats. Always. They are and always have been more expensive than any of the other vets from the very first day I went there. When I was younger, it shocked me and my budget. I encourage you to discuss costs up front if you have have concerns. There is nothing worse than picking kitty up from a teeth cleaning to get a bill triple the size you are expecting. They always lean towards doing more rather than less to try to give the cats the best care they can. Know this going in and work with them to do what is best for your kitty and your budget. I have worked with them in the 80s, 90s, 2000s and they have always been excellent from the days of Dr. Stein through Dr. Nordwall purchasing the practice. My most recent CCC clinic patient passed with a massive tumor about 14 months ago and he was seen by Dr. Nordwall immediately after first diagnosis. Their exclusive work with felines does allow them more knowledge and did make a difference in my cat's last couple months. I have now returned to the city 20 years on. Tomorrow, myself and my two kitties return to the CCC as regular customers. I put 4 stars above only because they are more expensive. They get 5 stars in my book for everything else. They might be a little old school but I'll take expensive veterans over cheap anytime. EDIT: After going just now for a yearly exam, vaccinations and a geriatric blood panel for my oldest I continue to be amazed at the pricing here. It is very hard to justify what they are charging for the basics. I still love them and you get great care but be prepared to need a loan to pay for it. read more

I live on the south side, and traveled all the way up to Devon when my little Sushi was sick because this place was so highly recommended. Everyone I interacted with was sweet and helpful, especially because I was a nervous wreck. Dr. Larissa and her assistants were incredibly kind yet straightforward. She told me prices before doing anything, and made sure I knew exactly what was going on with my little guy. I never once felt like they were trying to overcharge me or up-sell me. She even called me personally about the lab results the next day. I felt so comfortable and so did my kitty (as much as could be so, being at the vet). Cannot recommend this place enough. read more

A one star rating is pretty harsh, but the attitude of the older woman working at the front desk and answering the phones is enough to have ruined my entire experience. A friend had warned me about her (she's mentioned in other Yelp reviews--if it's the same woman), but I'm usually oblivious to mean old ladies, and loved the idea of a cats-only practice. Any tests or treatments are performed out of the owner's sight; the cat is brought to the back. When I called to find out whether or not I could stay with my cat while he had his ears cleaned for his follow-up visit, her response was a nasty, mini-tirade which included how she doesn't like owners being in the way, and isn't comfortable being watched by the cat's owner when she draws blood. I can understand why a veterinarian would have this policy, even though I, personally, want to see what's being done to my cat and how he's being treated. ESPECIALLY if the grandma from hell is allowed near him. Her bad attitude was not at all necessary, and I think it speaks volumes about the owner of the practice if he's willing to keep this hateful lady around. They should be catering to the needs of their feline patients and their owners--not the needs of their 135 year old secretary/vet tech. Their prices are a lot higher than average for the Chicago area ($76 for the exam alone), and they do push a lot of extras. Whether that's because they are looking to make more money per client, or genuinely trying to offer the best care for their patients, I don't know. I'm fine with paying a little more to know that my cat is getting the best care, but higher prices should include awesome customer service. read more

I love Chicago Cat Clinic....especially Dr. Marzec and Dr. Nordwall...both of them are super gentle and very thorough. I have two cats and had to take both of them in at the same time, and both doctors were always really accommodating. I've taken them there since I adopted them in 2005. We saw Dr. Marzec a few more times than Dr. Nordwall, so I can comfortably comment that she is great with cats, has a natural empathy for them and is very helpful with all of her explanations and suggestions. The staff at the front desk is always nice and helpful. The clinic itself is older, but super clean and I always felt good about taking my babies there. I've never found them to be any more expensive than any of the other neighborhood vets, and I like the fact that they exclusively treat cats...so my cats don't have to freak out in the waiting room from any other animals. We did bring the cats to the third vet once, Dr. Olenych...but I just didn't gel with her, and just really loved Dr. Marzec and Dr. Nordwall so much more, so I made appointments with them exclusively after that. read more

Dr. Olenych is amazing. She is very thorough and respectful of my cat. She informed me of all of my options and with her guidance I went forward with a surgery to remove the lump. When you have a sick cat you want to be able to get great, compassionate care at a reasonable price. We would highly recommend the Chicago Cat Clinic (CCC) and would give them a rating higher than 5 if we could. This is not a review as much as it is a testimonial. Our 17 year old cat (Jack) became suddenly ill and we took him to a local 24 hr clinic. Based on the results of that appointment we felt that a second opinion was needed. We called CCC the following day and Eric of the office staff said that they did not have any openings until the following week however he said that he would check with the doctor to see if Jack could be "fit in". Eric said that the doctor could fit us in if we could make it that morning. We were so happy that Jack could be seen. Jack's appointment was with Dr. Larissa. The doctor called the other vet clinic to get all of the test results and performed her own examination. Due to COVID, Dr. Larissa had to contact us by phone to give us her opinion on Jacks condition, possible next steps, and short and long term prognosis. The doctor clearly explained the results of the test and answered every question as directly as possible in plain language that we could understand. Dr. Larissa did so with a level of compassion (for us and Jack) that I have not experienced with ANY doctor. I was amazed at the amount of time that she took with us to make sure that we understood all of the options we had to consider. The doctor did not try to lead us in any direction but gave us all of the information we needed to make an informed decision. Given that the short term prognosis was not positive we made the decision to euthanize our beloved cat as we did not want to see him suffer. The CCC staff was able to take care of the procedure. The doctor explained each step of the procedure and assured us that they would do everything possible to make sure that Jack was as comfortable as possible. After the procedure was completed, Dr. Larissa personally called us to let us know that Jack had passed peacefully and was so comforting to me and my son. We are also so appreciative of both Eric and Adam for their help in making an appointment for our cat and for making this difficult day as easy as possible. My words cannot fully express our gratitude to Dr. Larissa and staff at CCC. They were exactly what you would hope for in the instance where your cat needs you to be their advocate. I do not recommend this place. They are more concerned about billing than the cat. I took two cats in and got vet-splained on the importance of a clean litter box. Meanwhile, I knew there was a bacterial infection. I was sent home without a treatment plan and then guilted for not taking time off work to buy 3 cases of food. Then told my cat would die but that it could wait until the weekend. I couldn't make it in and instead of recommending a closer vet, they just sent me prices and handouts. I am beating myself up for not finding a closer vet who opens early. My pet didn't make it until the weekend. He passed away the morning before I was able to get him in elsewhere. Now the other one has a prolapsed anus. He didn't have any anal issues when I brought him in. They did something to him and it's been inflamed ever since. Followup visits are more than the initial visit. I spent $90 just for a followup exam. Dr. Li is great and her bedside manner is wonderful. I should have seen her. The female technicians are nice but there are some surly males there. I have nothing nice to say about the other vet doctor who saw my cats. She was cold, patronizing, and rude. When I took my recently passed cat to Banfield for cremation, they had a candle and light out that read, "Someone has lost a member of their family. Please speak in a calm voice" The even offered me a room to have time and grieve. They may be corporate but the have empathy. I regret taking my cats to Chicago Cat Clinic. read more

The staff are super friendly at this vet. It isn't the kind of vet that will try to scare you into having all kind of tests done on your pet. I went to a vet that did that, ended up spending tons of money, and all I have is a picture of my cat's cardiogram. (yes, I am a sucker.) I absolutely love Chicago Cat Clinic. I have a Sphynx (think Mr. Bigglesworth) and (unlike the other terrible vet I went to who had never seen "one of these things" before) the doctors and techs at CCC knew exactly what kinds of issues were specific to the breed. Dr. Marzec is extremely logical in her treatment of my cat. We decide together which treatments are necessary and also take things slow to see how medications are working, etc. When the determination was made that my cat needed at-home allergy shots, the techs were SUPER patient with me, and I now have the routine down. They also file all of the insurance paperwork which is a huge help! I can't imagine taking my cat anywhere else. read more

This is the most a-mazing vet. I've had 8 cats in my life and Dr. Nordwall, Dr. Olenych, and Dr. Marzec have kept them happy and healthy through their geriatric years. Stray kitties tend to find me. Dr. Olenych is always honest about the possible cost of every test which is SO wonderful for a multiple cat household. dr. nordwall has performed multiple procedures including a stomach biopsy which helped find the rest meds for kitties cancer. They have kept my kitties healthy through kidney issues, heart problems, and cancer AND my new pregnant kitty. I live on the far south side now and still take my cats here because the care is so wonderful. I love the techs, and the people who answer the phones. This is a really great place!!!! read more

I looked for a vet for my two kitties for awhile before settling on the Chicago Cat Clinic. I wanted a place where they'd be comfortable and excitable animals, like happy or moody dogs wouldn't scare them (although I LOVE dogs, too!). Took them in for their yearly exam and got what I knew would be a recommendation to get their teeth cleaned. Dr. Green was great with both of them (even when my punk cat hissed and roared at everyone when she touched him). The techs and Dr. Green were very relaxed and talked to the boys each time they touched them, which I feel is important, too. I was very happy with our first visit. The exam room was really clean and didn't smell like animals to me. The techs took each kitty out to weigh them, take blood samples and temperatures, which I can't decide is ok, since I'm their mom and want to be with them every step of the way...... When we got home, they both made a beeline for the food bowl...comfort, I guess! Next step is the teeth cleaning for both of them. I'm giving 4 stars for now - the 5th is reserved for the next visit! 11/6/2007 - Update!!!! 5 STARS now! So the kitties had their choppers scraped and shined - they were both very good boys and came out of the anesthesia like champs. One had to have a tooth pulled - reverse decay was explained in graphic detail when Dr. Green called to let me know the surgeries went very smoothly. Bill was high as expected, but I'd do anything to keep my boys healthy. Thank you, The Cat Clinic and Dr. Green! I highly recommend this place to kitty owners who want the best care for their pets. Despite the slightly out-of-the-way location, I've been taking my cats here since they were stray kittens who needed shots and fixin'. It wasn't until my oldest kitty got sick, however, that the clinic really began to shine. Dr. Olenych and Dr. Marzec were always gentle in exams, proactive with treatment (without attempts to "upsell") and attentive to follow-up, patient with our questions, and extremely knowledgeable/thorough when explaining test results. When she eventually passed, we got a very sincere and touching condolence card... and a surprise hug from Dr. Olenych the next time I was in the office. When I lived in Chicago, Chicago Cat Clinic gave such wonderful care to three of my kitties -- Brixey, Simone and Ulrike -- over the years. I usually saw Dr. Larissa, and she was always so patient (especially with the bruiser Brixey!), kind and thorough. The vets here give us cat parents options and explain things thoroughly so we can make informed choices. Moreover, the reception staff and all the techs over the years have been so friendly, so kind and just the kind of people you expect to encounter at a cat clinic. I always found it easy to get an appointment, parking is not a hassle and again, the staff are just wonderful folks. We've been going to Chicago Cat Clinic for years, and I want to make a special note about our most recent experience there. Saturday morning we found one of our cats barely able to move--he had been fine on Friday--and were told to bring him in immediately. Dr. Larissa spent hours with us on Saturday trying to determine what was wrong. Sadly, by Monday it was clear that he was not going to get better, and she carefully guided us through our choices for him. Throughout the weekend, what meant the most was Dr. Larissa's compassion for both us and our companion. Her kindness and caring made the sad ordeal a little more bearable, and in fact everyone in the clinic was very gentle and concerned for us. I also want to note that Dr. Larissa has been helping us with our 17-yr-old cat who has a chronic condition, making sure that she is staying comfortable with the help of medication. And again, every time we bring that cat in, it feels like Dr. Larissa cares as if it were her own cat. I became familiar with this Veterinary office when a friend of mine rescued a cat off the highway. He was in pretty bad shape, but the sweetest cat I've ever seen. Dr. Nordwall was extremely knowledgeable and caring to the little guy. He made a full recovery and is now in the loving home of my friend. Started bringing my 16 year old cat Nagi here a few weeks ago due to some health issues he was having that were going beyond the scope of my regular vet. They are professionals when it comes to handling cats, and they really know what they are doing here.The level of care and concern Dr. Larissa Olenych and all the staff have provided thus far has been absolutely amazing. Dr. Larissa has even called in the mornings to check on how Nagi was responding to treatment! She's also asked me to call her and update her on how Nagi is doing! They are personally/emotionally supportive as well. They even took me on Saturday morning when my cat had a emergency medical issue so I didn't have to take him to emergency(which would have been more expensive)! They have been thorough, upfront, and honest about everything, including costs and options. They don't rush you off the phone, and they take the time to answer any questions you may have completely and honestly. I'll be bringing future cats I adopt here too. read more

I've been at CCC for a long time. But I'm finally ready to make the difficult decision of breaking up with them. I love the way Dr. Nordwall talks to and handles cats. You can see how much he genuinely cares about cats, even cats he has just met. But after spending an enormous amount of money here for thorough testing and care, I remain disappointed in his communication skills. All pet owners have to understand that it is difficult to get "straight answers" on animals because they are difficult to diagnose, and diagnostics are often a process of elimination. But it should *not* be an ordeal to get a vet to review results with a client, explain the "whys" of their treatment plans, and go over the logic behind their thinking. I'm a pretty easy client to get along with. I don't challenge vets' expertise, and I don't doubt Dr. Nordwall is an excellent diagnostician. But I can't continue to bring my family members here given these hinderingly laconic consultations. I may not be a DVM, but I still need to know what's going on with my cats at a basic level; I need to be let in on, at least generally, a vet's suspicions when they prescribe/change medicine, order testing, or even perform surgery. I'm tired of having to press for even the most rudimentary info (as in: "What does this medication treat, and what exactly do you suspect is wrong?") at CCC. I just can't continue to blind-trust instructions to "take this, and see if it gets better" without knowing what "this" and "it" are. I recently discovered that the practice performs elective declawings; that was the final straw for me. read more

I really thought that Dr Olanick had my cats best interest at heart, buqt the last time I took my cat in, she suggested blood work, that my cat didnt need. A couple weeks later, she refusef to refill my cats asthma medication unless we had blood work done on kitty. Basically, she was trying to extort money from us. We have a senior cat that has been having some major issues. After trying several vets in the suburbs we were getting discouraged and spending quite a sum of money for visits. one day I just Googled Cat vets, and Chicago cat Clinic came up. I called and they said a doctor would call back. The same day I received a call from Dr. Munoz who spent a good 20 minutes of her time with me in regards to our cats issues. I made an appointment and she came up with a game plan and stayed in contact with me along the way. I am very secure in her ability as a Vet and her ability to go the extra distance by phone to help us out. When we brought her to the Chicago cat clinic, Dr. Li examined her and immediately could tell that she had a heart murmur and her intestines were swollen. She was able to perform a diagnosis without relying on technology. To me that's a sign that you have a good doctor. Dr. Li prescribed some medication and she had the technician teach us how to give our cat pills. The technician gave us some treats that are called pill pockets in case we couldn't give our cat the pills on our own orally. All you have to do is insert the pills in the treat and your cat will swallow it on her own. Dr. Li and the staff here are the best. I would recommend them to anyone with a cat. read more

After spending thousands of dollars I was sent to a specialist by the Cat Clinic. The specialist said my cat was fine.

I have to agree with the other posters who say that this office significantly overcharges for their sevices. I think they rely on scare tactics to encourage unnecessay, expensive and ultimately senseless testing. Honestly, I feel as though they prey on owners who want to give their cat "the best." I find it, frankly, unsettling. About a year ago, my cat lost a significant amount of weight. After nearly $1500 in testing, they had no answer for for her weight loss and recommended additional testing that would have cost nearly $500 more. We declined those services (and were all but accused of animal neglect as a result), and decided to change her food. She has since gained all of the weight back and we figure she may have been allergic to the brand we were feeding her. I don't think I should have had to have paid $1500 to have *us* be the ones to solve the problem. On my last visit - on a Saturday - every cat seemed to have some very special needs, and each visit (of about 10 in an hour) was well over $300 dollars. My cat had a simple urinary tract infection. My visit cost $355 dollars and the vet called me and wanted to run another $125 test to find out *exactly* what kind of bacteria was causing the infection. In the meantime, they were going to prescribe a course of antibiotics - which might need to be changed - having me pay for two medications instead of one. The staff does seem to be nice. I think they genuinely care about the cats, but make no mistake, they are mostly interested in coming up with ways to make money off of *your* love for your cat. There are plently of competent vets out there who aren't quite so interested in setting up a steady stream of income from your cat. read more

I have complete confidence in this clinic. I have 3 cats and have been taking them here for many years. All staff are very friendly and professional. Dr. Olenych and Nordwall are excellent, experienced and compassionate. I trust their expertise. They call us at home to follow up with results and check on their patients. They are thoughtful and truly care about the cat's health and welfare. read more
