I typically don't write reviews if I don't enjoy the service. But, I feel like this needs to be addressed. If I could give the wait time a review it would be 10 stars; the service on the other hand was lackluster. I have been natural for almost practically my entire life. I normally don't go to Dominican salons often because my hair texture doesn't agree with the extreme heat used while there. I am giving this business a 2 star review not because I didn't like the finished product but because the stylist was very rough with my hair and didn't really care for my hair as much as she cared about just getting it straight if that makes sense. After my visit, my hair was dried out and shed a lot. My hair is bleach blonde so there is a number of things you have to do to keep the moisture there so that the hair remains healthy. The stylist did none of those things. She simply blow dried and flat ironed my hair. For the price I paid, I was expecting more care. I won't be back. read more

Customer service was outstanding because of my hair color I did bring my own shampoo and conditioner they do have purple but I don't care for the brand they have on hand. The previous owners must have left. They colored my hair and may not have the credentials or knowledge of how to do that so my hair was severely damaged. Then on top of that they were rude and nasty the whole time with the exception of maybe one lady who tried to help, maybe she was the manager, and they still charged me full price after the person I assume was mainly experienced enough to wash, colored my hair and kept bleach on for longer than she should have, ruined the integrity of my hair and didn't know what color my hair was supposed to be. My hair has broken off severely, because of this experience. I didn't think it would be that bad after leaving but it was, even though I've tried everything. I just got here and no one greeted me or even got up to ask what service I need. It seems to only be two people working out of the three here. I came in at 9:00 and it is now 9:22. No service and no questions have been asked. Deff will be my last time coming here. Finished at 10:16 but only once more stylist came did the customer service get better. I was so pleased with the service here until it was time to pay. So the total for a blow out, steam dry and trim was $90 which I didn't mind paying. So we get to the tip part and I put $10. MIND YOU I HAD CASH in my car! But before I could even tell her that she flips out and was like "are you only putting $10" and I tried explaining I had cash in my car and to wait. I only come here to get my hair washed and set. Since I've gone natural I haven't put direct heat to my hair. On every occasion , they always try to persuade me to blow dry my hair because it is "too natural" for rollers lol clearly there needs to be cultural training because I've been doing wash and sets for years with no problem. I feel like it is a way for them to avoid doing more work. One lady even tried to argue that going under the dryer is applying direct heat lol as if it is the same as getting a flat iron passed through your hair! Anyways, ladies please advocate for yourself. Tell them to detangle starting from the bottom up! If your hair needs to be wet before combing through, speak up please. Most clients will know what works for their hair. read more

This is my third time coming to this salon and each time I've had a pleasant experience. I did have someone put some straightening something in my hair the first time I came, but after that I had no issues! Just be upfront with them and tell them (ladies that wash hair) not to put Keratin or straightening shampoo in your hair. Its the washing ladies you have to look out for, lol. If I could give a half a star, I would. I went yesterday because I was in the area. Never AGAIN. The washer roller person Rosa was too rough with my hair. My hair is relaxed and weakest when its wet. She didn't let me sit under the dryer for more than five minutes for my deep conditioner because she was trying to keep some system going, but I feel like I got cheated. Worse part was when she used that little tiny rat tooth comb on my hair. I asked her to use a slightly larger comb...She was still rough, I asked to see the comb to see how much hair was coming out and she thought she could be slick and pull the hair out of the comb before she showed me and say "see nothing." So, I am not stupid. I was looking at the comb every time she put it down. I just wanted a closer look. Needless to say, I wouldn't let them touch me with any hot untensils. After sitting under the dryer I had the woman wrap it and I went home with out a style which is fine, because I didn't see any phenomenal styles leaving that salon. Will not be back. I went there on Friday, July 23, 2021. It was a horrible experience. I went in for a relaxer. My stylist had a bad attitude and was not friendly. First she grabbed a comb and started detangling my 4b/4c hair, as if to take all her frustration out on my hair. After minutes of pulling and tugging, she finally started the relaxer. While doing my hair, she kept taking mini breaks. At one point, she walked away to go do something while putting the relaxer in, leaving parts of my hair undone. She was on the phone at some point but not really engaging me and asking me questions. She didn't know I understood Spanish until she started talking about me to another co-worker and I cut in. She never put rollers in my hair after "washing out the perm". She had me sit under the dryer with my hair down, then blow dried it. After that, she did a blow out and then trimmed my hair. I thought she was done but wait! She pulled out the flat iron and flat ironed my hair. It's been 3 days now, my hair smells like I still have a relaxer in it. My scalp hurts and my hair is falling out. I washed it with a neutralizing shampoo and conditioner tonight hoping to save my hair and help soothe my scalp. I can't brush my hair or run my hand through my hair without hair coming out. I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy. read more

Ive started taking my mixed race daughter to Dominican hair salons because they are the only ones who know how to treat and care for her hair properly...I went to some in VA beach when I lived there and now in pleased that Chic Dominican is doing a great job in my old hometown!! Im very picky about my daughters hair n ive been here several times most of the times have been ok but i wasnt pleased on my last visit !!! they charged me wayyy more than they every have..i had to wait forever , when their werent alot of people & they always want to cut my daughters hair! My daughter and I arrived to the shop on a Monday for the $25 special. No one informed us before washing my daughters hair that there would be an extra charge for natural hair. No where written or displayed does it say extra for natural hair or the special only applies to relaxed hair. The lady started washing my daughters hair and then came to explain that they could only blow her hair out and not roll her hair with rollers because it it's "too natural". So I asked them where is the written or displayed? We're new customers to this shop and wanted to give it a try. This place was recommended to me by my girl Jess and I finally came out to try it and I must say I am IMPRESSED. Jossie was my stylist and she was awesome, she knew exactly what to do and everyone in the shop was friendly. The best part is it was only $35!!!!!!!!!!!!! All this time I've been paying an arm and leg and look at God . They have a $25 special on Tuesdays and it's $10 extra for deep conditioning. The 1st time i went I love the end result so i went back 2 weeks later... and HATED IT!!! ok the 1st time- the shampoo girl was nice friendly but scrub my scalp to hard so i asked her to do it no so ruff and she eased up... then she directed me to Jahida's station (i passed on the roller set bc my hair is natural and i didnt see the point of it) ok so she does my blow out it is beautiful... she took her time and even trimmed my ends for free. She was very careful/gentle used heat protectant and everything. my total came to $50 because i got a hot oil treatment, my hair is natural, and my hair is long ((idk what they consider long but w/e)) ok so i went back 2 wks later.. shampoo was good, it was a diff girl but she was not ruff or anything. I went to Jahida again. she was so ruff with my hair, then wanted to cut my hair in layers (B*TCH!!! i dont kno u like dat!!! im not letting u cut my hair) so when i passed on the layers she got an attitude... I would really give this place negative stars if I could. This was my second time coming to this salon. My first experience was ok. This last experience was life changing, and not in a good way. I had beautiful healthy natural hair. When I showed the stylist (the rude one with the red hair) and shampoo lady my hair, they started talking crap in Spanish. The shampoo lady looked annoyed because she had to detangle my hair. THAT IS WHAT YOU GET PAID FOR. As many know, Dominicans put a tremendous amount of heat on your hair. I am aware of that and I should have ran for the hills. But since I had an ok experience the first time last year, I didn't think it would be any different now. The lady with the red hair did my hair. It looked great when I left, no doubt about it. But now, my hair is falling out and is damaged beyond repair. My hair was burnt to death and I have to cut it all off and start my hair journey over. I put my hands in my hair and clumps fall out, even after a deep protein treatment. DO NOT GO HERE!!! The stylists (with the exception of 1) are very rude and disrespect! Yesterday, I arrived at 6:08pm. I called before I left work to confirm their closing time. Wash & Sets are $25 on Mondays. I signed the sign-in book for a Wash & Set. The shampoo girl washed and detangled my hair with no problems. I noticed that they did not add the rollers but I heard one of the stylists turn down some clients and complain about the time so I just thought she was blow drying to save time. I didn't mind too much and my stylist didn't speak English so she just nodded when I confirmed I had a wet set. She burned the hell out of my hair with the blow dryer to the point where I have sore spots in the back. Ugh Nevertheless, she did a decent job with the flatiron even though it could've been straighter and I was satisfied with the price I THOUGHT I was paying. I go to the front desk to pay and they tell me it costs $50 because she gave me a BLOWOUT Instead of a SET. I explained and showed them where I wrote Wash & Set and that I would not pay $50 for their mistake! They began talking amongst themselves and one of the younger stylists (a heavyset girl that mainly washes hair) proceeds to step towards me in a threatening manner. I stood my ground, again refusing to pay. The front desk girl has my card in her hand while on the phone with the owner. Again they are all speaking Spanish and I'm asking what the outcome will be. They ignore me. I offer to compromise and pay $35. The heavyset girl refuses and proceeds to tell me "THAT'S NOTHING TO ME". Then an older stylists GRABS ME BY THE ARM and directs me to the back of the salon to wash my hair out! She said "you no pay, I call police". I told her to call the police because I never REFUSED to pay! I just refused to pay for an error they made! Next, a guy walks in and asks what the issue is, I ask if he is the owner he says no but he is close with the owner. I tell him the story and out of the corner of my eye I see the same stylist walking up holding a spray bottle full of water! At that point I warn her that if she sprays me with that bottle, we will definitely have issues because that is classified as ASSAULT! The guy tells her to go to the back and let him handle the situation. She is cursing me out in Spanish like I don't know what curse words are. He asks what I am willing to pay. I tell him $35 and nothing more! Even though I should not have had to even pay that much for an error his stylists made and the disrespect I endured! He welcomed me back but I flat out told him I WILL NEVER give them my business ever again, and after speaking with several friends and family member in the area that frequent their salon, THEY WONT EITHER! If I could rate my experience less than a 1 star I definitely would. I normally go to Flow located in Landover, however, they were closed. So, I went to my cleaners and remembered that this salon (not sure I want to call it that) was here on my way to have my nails done after picking up my cleaners. Upon walking in I asked how much do they charge for a wash and set (which is my normal since I've been going to the Dominican salons for years especially in Silver Spring and DC) they could not provide a price and just told me a range. So after getting my hair washed as I was getting it set, I noticed the roaches crawling out around the bowls where I had just had my hair washed and so I said something. I made sure to clutch my bags and not put anything down anywhere. So, after my hair dried, the stylist that did my hair asked me how I wanted my finished look and I advised that I wanted it curly. They then told me that that would cost me an extra $5. I asked why and they advised that it was was because she would use the flat irons. I said that's fine. As she was blowing out my hair I noticed that she was blowing it all straight. I asked what are you doing because I had advised them that I wanted body. As the stylist got to the front of my hair she asked about my part and I advised her that I didn't want a part. She then commenced to throwing down her comb and dryer because I would assume that she was upset or frustrated. She curled my hair in which I didn't like the end results of, she pinned my hair and I didn't like it (it looked as if I had invisible rollers in my hair and asked why didn't she pin the hair flat. I had a really bad experience taking out braids and my hair was a tangled, hot mess. I really thought I was going to have to sport a Halle Berry short cut but I went to Chic instead. Although I see someone wrote a review saying there's always a considerable wait, I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes before someone gets started on my hair. Three people worked on my head getting out the tangling. I looked like I was in extreme discomfort (actually due to me getting news that a loved had passed just as I walked into the door) and one of the stylists brought over a bottle of water and some ibuprofen. When they realized I was just grieving, they were super, super nice and did all they could to comfort me. Fast forward 2.5 hours later I walked out the door able to run my fingers through my hair like a Pantene commercial. I did have to get some of my hair cut because of the tangles, but I didn't have to get scalped. The price was affordable and they did a super job! read more

(I wish I could've given no stars at all) I am HIGHLY disappointed at my recent experience with this salon. I took my daughter for her 17th birthday to get her hair done at this salon. She wanted a cut and a gray color. A week prior to me bringing her in I called and was told by a young lady at the front desk what the price would be, $80 (semi color, cut, & blow-out); she even told me that Mondays and Tuesdays were $10 off. Great, right? When we got there she told us that they DID have the gray color. So I left my daughter at the salon to run other erans. My daughter txt'd me to let me know that she was almost done and that I could be on my way. When I get there to my surprise her hair is blonde! And on top of that the stylist told me that the total is $165!! I tell the stylist the price that I was quoted and she turns to the manager and says something (in their language). So the manager tells me that since they didn't have gray then that was the color she picked. My daughter was like no, the color she picked was brown. Needless to say I got into an argument with the owner about him 1.) Yelling at his customers 2.) Employees not knowledgable on prices 3) Taking advantage of younger customers.
