The shop is a typical shop with two branders a TV and about five stations. The working area and bathroom are both clean. I got there at 3:30 on a Friday and Bridgett started in my hair. Another client came in and wanted twist, because the Bridgett was the only one that could do twist I had to switch to the other lady. I was ok with that until she started braiding my hair too tight. I told her not too tight and she would still braid tight. I shouldn't have to remind you for every braid. Bridgett on the other hand was told once and she made sure I was comfortable. Not to mention, the other lady took a 30min break to go eat. I was a little upset because what in the world, where did you go lady, are you coming back? When she came back down stairs I found out it was her birthday. I wished her happy birthday and she apologized for taking so long. So I quickly got over that. Then the daughter comes down and she starts braiding my hair because she didn't want to take out a weave. She was slower and even more heavy handed. Oh and Bridgett made parts so my edges wounded be braided and of course the other lady braided them anyway. Do I like the finish product? YES. Will I go back? YES. I'm just going to state that I want Bridgett and Bridgett ONLY in my hair!!! The price was average for the braids that I got and the ladies are polite and funny. Go check them out!!! read more

This is my second time going to this hair braiding business. The first time my braids were just okay but I needed something fast so i settled. The second time I got my hair braided, it was not what I asked for. I asked for knotless braids. I got knotless braids on the center of my head but everything else was knots and the hair was/is so stiff. Unfortunately, it was late in the evening 10pm and I was just ready to leave and I think I paid more than enough to get what I didn't want 250. Just got my hair done this evening and I have to take it out, this evening . Let me start by saying that everyone was very nice. I showed my stylist a picture of the style I wanted which looked like kinky twists to me. They were small and to the collarbone. What I ended up with were marley twists that are too long and wayyy too big and more suited for my 14 year old! I'm so disappointed. read more

I just found out this hair salon was very close to where I live so I decided to give it a try. I set an appointment on Sunday for noon. After arriving I waited for a half an hour to get started because the owner was working on someone already. She took me as soon as she was done and immediately got started. It took her around 3 hours to finish up the small Marley twist I requested and I was very happy with her work. Very friendly staff and the best hair braiding quality I've received. I have been coming to this shop for years. I loved getting my hair done here and talking about African politics, or watching TV shows with Bridgette. When my hair started falling out when my husband became terminally ill, I trusted this shop to coax it back. Today my grandaughter flew in from Indiana to visit me on her pop pop's birthday and anniversary of his death. She has four days before high school cheerleading practice. I asked several times that her hair not be big. My granddaughter told the braider, excuse me this is too poofy. When I picked her up she was devastated. After tipping generously and recommending this shop and giving rave reviews I'm done. The braider argued with us, stuffed the hair in a bag and threw it at us. As I'm consoling my granddaughter in the parking lot, she stormed past us and zoomed off in a huff. No apology. You can check the history and see how loyal I was. So I am done. Don't get so big all you see is $s and not the people who grew with you while renovating went on and air conditioning was out. Dont waste your time or money. Very unprofessional. The owner doesn't own a schedule so when you make an appointment you are sitting for an hour minimum. Kids crying and screaming you can hear upstairs. Dirty salon. Rude owner. I only came because of convenience but never again. The work is below average for the price. 2nd visit was just as great as first visit. My schedule doesn't allow for me to plan too far in advance, but I really needed my hair done and scheduled a same day appt. for 8:00pm. I was so thankful for the late appt. I must say I needed braids removal, wash, and individual mid-back length braids. I am tender headed, yet the braiding process was pain free. She is quick with her fingers, yet has a gentle touch. I was in and out in exactly six hours. I tried hometown braiding yesterday for the first time and what a great experience!! Usually when I get my hair braided I'm never totally satisfied and the style gets better the older it gets but Bridget and Cynthia did they thing. I told them exactly what I wanted and it came out perfect.....the best part about it is that it only took 3 hours !!!! This was my first time getting my hair done sat this salon. The owner did my hair and she was nice and you can tell she is an experienced professional. It's challenging to do my hair because I virtually have little to no edges but she knew how to braid my hair underneath (I got crotchet braids) so I could get maximum coverage of my edges. I was truly satisfied and my head felt great when I left. I've gone to other salons and had a headache when I left because they pulled my hair to tight. With her, it was just right. And she's quick. With braiding my hair and putting in the crotchet hair, it only took her 2 hours. I would highly recommend this shop and commend the owner for the great service she provides. read more

I got my hair done one week ago. The lady did a really good good job braiding my hair. Unfortunately, she asked me to take her home after she was finished. She was very persistent and insisted several times. She also tried to guilt trip me for hair taking longer. I will never go back here, I felt very uncomfortable. Took my son to get four cornrows. The parts were crooked and the cornrows were different sizes. They took out my sons hair at my request and redid it. The second time just as bad. I asked for the owner to do his hair, she refused. I asked for my money back. Bridgette the owner was saying give her her money back, I'm fine I'm fine. I called my friend who speaks French. When another braider cancelled on me last minute, I didn't know what to do. I searched on Google & found Hometown Braiding. After reading the reviews, I called and was impressed that Bridgett was able to schedule me the next day. I got medium, long box braids and I was out of the shop in 4hrs!!! I took advantage of the new customer coupon. The braiders were pleasant and it's a nice facility. The only thing I didn't like was that I wasn't informed of the extra fee to pay with a credit card. Horrible, came here on a Friday afternoon and wasn't busy at all but it took 20 minutes to start. Unfortunately these nice people just don't have neat skills. The hair also itches so of course it is not pre-washed. Two days I've had my French braids (3) and the look like I took a long swim then slept for three days without a scarf. And no I repeat NO attention was in my baby hair, also the braid the two women put in my hair we're at all different levels one low and skinny and two bulky braids. read more

Sigh.... my braids started falling out. I thought maybe it was my texture but later realized it was not. I went to have like 10 braids put back in and was told I had to pay $70 I refused and they allowed me to pay $40 after some back and forth. My braids are all different sizes. This place is some trash. First it smelt bad. I go there on a Sunday. Only two people working. The lady told me to wait or come back in an hour. So I decided to wait for an hour. A hour went past she just started working on the second head getting box braids. I was thinking another person was going to come in there to do braids. But Nope. It remain the two ladies. I only wanted 6 straight- backs feed in braids, that would only of took 45 minutes or less. This was my first time here and my last. And I didn't get anything done. I wish this business best of luck. Decided to get my hair braided at the spur of the moment so I decided to search for African Hair Braiding near me (I live in Wadorf, MD. Found this shop and read the reviews and decided to give them a call. Very polite and answered my questions. I was asked if I would like to make an appt and I said yes. To my surprise I was able to get an appt within the hour of my calling. I arrived about 3:50 and by 4 one of the braiders started on my hair. It is now 8:25 and I am almost done. My only issue is that they tend to charge a $20 additional fee for non - cash payments which is kinda horrible and sorta illegal. But I like the work they do. This place is very unprofessional!!!! Run................. I would never recommend this place to anyone. The owner doesn't care about their customers being happy. I received African Twist on July 8th before leaving on vacation on July 12th. I woke up Monday morning before work and my hair had unraveled, after work I visited the salon again to have 4 twist redone. I later departed for my trip on the July 11th and 2 more had came unrevaled once I got to my destination. I called the salon again on vacation and ended up speaking with the owner Bridgett and she went back and forth with me on the phone for an hour discussing if I come back the next day she would take out my hair and refund me my money and giving me the run around......lol just my luck I'm out of town on vacation and I informed her of that. She stated to me that after two weeks she couldn't return my money...... Then proceeded to tell me that this hairstyle only last 2 -3 weeks. I have had this hairstyle before and lasted for 2 month with taking good care of it. Upon my arrival back from my vacation on July 18th I visited the salon again after 3 more had came unraveled, once again she would never answer my question of refunding half or all of my money back due to the inconvenience of my hair looking a HOT MESS on vacation. I had to walk around with rubber bands holding my hair until return back home. I have never wasted $160 on a hairstyle that didn't even last a week before coming apart. Not to mention my first day back another individual was coming back because there hair had unraveled too....... The owner only offered to fix the twist and to give me a discount on another hairstyle. What make her think I would ever come back to get my hair done their ever again after to poor job and the treatment of customers. She didn't care about her customer being happy....... I Love my hair. The ladies in the shop were welcoming although the shop could use some work (decor, organization, junkiness). The young lady who 'prepped' my hair was very sweet. However, they don't do much hair 'care' (no conditioner, no moisturizing of scalp or hair). They also need to be better with their tools - sharing combs and 1 dryer from station to station. Each station should have its own set of tools (or each Braider should have their own). Also, all pricing and fees should be told before any services begin. I was told one price and when I went to pay I was told of an additional fee for washing. There's also an additional fee for credit card use. However, the lady who did my hair was fast and replicated my style perfectly (after only lotoking at the picture once or twice). She completed my hair in 3 hours! I will definitely go back to get my hair done again but I'll jus wash/prep myself. Again, I LOVE my hair. read more
