I'd been bouncing about Europe for a few days at this point, and although I had enjoyed most everything I'd eaten so far, I couldn't help but feel that I didn't think I had really had a truly satisfying, filling meal. Call it being a fat American missing my big fat American portions, but I didn't feel like I had eaten myself to a nice full sense of contentment.
When I saw the size of the plate of couscous and the size of the pot of stew brought to my table, I knew I had found salvation.
Chez Tiouiche was a place I found because I had a planned trip out to see Versailles, and I wanted to have at least one good meal while I was out there, instead of waiting to go back to Paris. It's barely a block away from the main gates of Versailles, easy to walk to from the RER station or perhaps after an afternoon of walking around the Palace grounds.
It's not a large establishment by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a cozy homey feeling Moroccan restaurant. Being so close to a major tourist destination like Versailles, it was no surprise that the server I had could speak English and there was no real communication problem.
But back to the food, so I ordered couscous with the option to get a sampler of all four of their meats: lamb, sausage, meatball and chicken. Typically, I'm not that big of a fan of lamb, but Chez Tiouiche made a believer out of me; their lamb was super tender and fell right off the bone. If anything at all, I made sure to eat all of the meat like the carnivore I am. Ultimately, I did quite a number on the couscous itself, but the portion was simply too large, and I had to tap out and leave some food on the table.
Overall, Chez Tiouiche was great. The location was convenient for my tourist agenda, the cost at first seemed a little high, but the portion sizes are relative to what you pay for, and the quality of the food was magnificent. Service was friendly and English-speaking which made it easier for me. Highly recommend this place. read more
