We had a wonderful dinner at this little restaurant that is a block or two off of the main touristry streets of Cassis. It is well worth seeking out! I do recommend reservations. We were very lucky that when we walked in, the woman found a way to seat us even though we had no reservations. She turned away the next couple who walked in, so we felt extremely fortunate.
This is a small restaurant with just a handful of tables out front in a patio area and then a few more inside. We sat outside in the (in February) covered patio and enjoyed a great meal. This is the type of place with no printed menus because the menu changes. Instead, the host picked up the hand-written chalkboard menu and walked us through it, kindly taking her time to explain each item in English when we asked her to.
We ordered the calamari appetizer, which was really tasty. Served in a little paper cone, it had light batter and just the right amount of salt. We ate it really fast because it was really tasty. Then I ordered the beef tartare "Italienne," first because I love beef tartare and second because I've never had it "Italienne." This turned out to mean it was topped with some melted mozzarella cheese and some pesto. It was strange to be honest. Not bad but just weird. I wound up taking the cheese off halfway through and just eating the tartare (which was provided in a most generous portion). My husband ordered the Wok de Gambas, which is an Asian fusion type of dish with noodles and shrimp. I had a bite and thought it was good - a bit too heavy handed with the hoisin (and therefore a bit sweet), but good. For dessert, we split this item that reminded me very much of keylime pie. Very lime, very tart, with chantilly cream on the side. Very tasty. We destroyed it. It was a really lovely meal! read more
