I've never emerged from a haircut more satisfied with the result than during my recent trip to Chez Moustache. Cheryl showed me a variety of pictures to help me clarify what I was looking for, and the ensuing cut was even better than what I had in mind. Cheryl was friendly, helpful and accommodating, and the establishment itself is wonderfully decorated and has a very relaxing atmosphere. To say, as another reviewer put it, that this place is a "spa for your head", is quite close to the mark. This is a full service men's barbershop. You come here for the haircut and shave, but stay for the Kuerig coffee on top of an expertly used nautical cup holder which neatly folds into the wall when not in use. You stay for the conversations with Cheryl. You stay to sit in the waiting room, which was probably the sitting room a hundred or two hundred years ago when this was a home rather than a business. You stay for the toe tapping, smile inducing jazz that Cheryl not only loves, but realizes belongs alongside the bowler hats and wooden golf clubs that serve to increase the manliness of this establishment. On a personal note, this was one of my first trips for a "real" men's haircut. Gone are the days where i walk into Supercuts and just say "make it shorter". No longer will I resort to wearing a hat when my hair gets too long. I walked in and said "give me a haircut that compliments my big head and helps me look dapper enough for a wedding in Newport." I looked like Gatsby all weekend. With the haircut that Cheryl gave me, my hair seems to look better as the days go on. All of this for about $3 more than the "cheap" haircut I had gotten in the past. At last, a grooming experience and not just a haircut! After moving to Providence and reading the yelp reviews for Chez Mustache, I couldn't wait to try it out. So long Supercuts.....However, in trying to book an appointment online, I found out I would have to wait. This place books up! After my wife stopped by the shop and begged a little for me, I got an appointment the next day with Zac. And my wife got me a gift card for the full service cut and hot shave. Brother it was worth it! Thoughtful haircut, questions and trials, frequent stops to make sure it was ok, and then a great multi-step hot shave and facial experience. All about the hot towels. Compared to the other under-30 dollar haircuts in their comprable cities like Philly (Opera Barber) or Boston/Cambridge (Fast Phil's), Cheryl is leaps and bounds ahead with Chez Moustache. A visit for a hair cut that feel's more like a day spa and all for around 20 bucks, it seems like stealing from her. This was, quite possibly the longest haircut I've ever had in my life. Thankfully, it was also one of the best. The staff was great and the owner entertained me with her tales of opening a new business in our neighborhood. The service is great and the price is right. Have been trimming my own beard for a while, but as it got longer, it was more challenging. I have heard many good things about Chez Moustache. Location on the East Side was perfect and the vibe inside sets the mood of an old fashioned barber sharp. I was pretty nervous about anyone touching my beard, but David did an excellent job. In the past few months since I have begun frequenting Chez Moustache, I can honestly say I've gotten more compliments on my haircut than I have at any other point in my life. I've been trying to get a certain haircut for quite some time now, bouncing around barbers and salons and telling each person working on my hair the exact same description of the style that I've desired. With Cheryl, I barely went into the details, and she automatically understood and appreciated the simple but previously elusive cut that I desired. It was such a refreshing change of pace, and one that has made me a Chez Moustache loyalist into the foreseeable future. Of course, Cheryl delivered, and the hair cut was perfect. As was the second. And the third (the best one so far, actually). The proportions are perfect, the side and top lengths are just right, and she has a fundamental understand of how to work with (and around!) the thick, natural curl of my hair. She even finally convinced me to venture into the world of product - something I've previously avoided because the look that resulted from previous haircuts combined with products was an undesirable one. But with Cheryl's haircuts, product use actually enhances the style. Beside the haircut itself, the environment is incredibly pleasant and Cheryl sets a great conversational tone. I would not bring your kids here. I thought it might be nice to have a father/son haircut with my 4 yo. Had an appointment with Sean Martin- he clearly has little experience with children. He was quite rough and impatient. Luckily, my son was tolerant, but not the best experience for him. My haircut was fine.
