Can I please merely say that the cut I received makes me want to tear my hair out and it (surely unintentionally) set me up for at least a year of discomfort at a critical point of my life. I am totally uncomfortable and unconfident with a dorky mobster-like haircut that lacks finesse (frankly, it looks stupid, with many uneven ends apparent months later and revealing a silly cowlick on the back of my head, which has never once been an issue for me). Simply not at all what I envisioned or needed. Sure the place's regulars love the classic cuts they receive, but I did not appreciate the barbershop treatment at a place holding itself out as a salon on a Broadway Avenue in a city like Providence. I strongly recommend the place adds a unisex-friendly specialist to their team - that would really modernize this joint, which is not a 5-star one. read more

Best barber shop on the west side! Pros Salon is a family-run business & the folks inside make you feel as such. Mark, my go-to barber is an artist at what he does. I've changed my haircut a few times throughout the past two years and he is always receptive to and wanting to workshop my look with me. The other stylists are also fantastic. I dare you to find a better cut anywhere else in Providence, nay..the world! For less than 20 dollars you get a perfect hair cut of your choice. But it's not just a cut, this place hits every thing you could wish for in a hair groom session. He's Italian, a couple blocks from Atwells, and he's pretty much appointment only. This is the process. Hair cut to your specifications. Shaved, cut, combed, blended as you want it. He then reclines you back into the sink and uses hot water and a soapy lather to rinse every hair follicle. He then swings you back up and dries your head with a towel and then blow dryer. And I mean he dries EVERY hair, going through them slowly and perfectly. He then can see if any stray hairs have been missed, and then proceeds to fix them. Then the hot foam comes out, and the straightedge. This is used to groom your sideburns, and neck hair line to perfection. It is done so well, rumor has it that Jesus himself gets his hair cut here, and that the straightedge razor used may have been forged from pieces of the spear of destiny. Then the talcum powder comes out to soothe that new baby fresh shaved area. He then checks out your eyebrows, and snips them into shape, keeps them tame. (I'd go here just for this, being a wild wilderbeast of a man who at one time used his brows to scare small children into his dinner bowl.) Next up is the vacuum. It's a hose attached to the ceiling that he uses to suck up every last cut hair that resides on you. Last but not least, as you stare at the awards on his wall, and religious artifacts from the old school Italian days, he gels your hair so you leave knowing that the world is yours and women crumble to the ground crying at your beauty. read more
