Demi is an incredibly skilled and intelligent stylist. She utilized different layering techniques to help tame my thick "box like" asian hair. I've never had a stylist make such recommendations, with such great outcomes. She seems incredibly knowledgable about how to work with different hair types. She even straight up told me, when something is not going to work on me. Demi also spends time to make sure your hair is absolutely perfect. She always asks you for your preferences. You can tell she is passionate about giving every girl the cut of her dreams. She is also great with coloring. She gave me amazing highlights, that took 30 minutes! She recommended a color that would not make my hair "turn orange", as most hair dyes do. I don't think I ever had a more positive hair coloring experience. I can honestly say that Demi is great with all sorts of hairstyles. She gave me a great pixie cut. She also gave my one sister a long elegant hair cut, and my other sister a middle length bob. Truly, she obviously knows her stuff. Hair cut was 50$, color was 65$. I heard that an ombre hair color with her is 80$, and a balayage is $120. read more

Sometimes when you want a haircut you want it now. Today was one of those days for me. My ends were getting scraggly and dry and my hair was shapeless. I was feeling pretty frumpy. So I called to see if any available stylists were available to cut my hair. And today my luck was with Billy. I am extremely particular with my hair and I am a perfectionist so I am not at all an easy client. We had a long discussion and BIlly worked hard to understand my preferences and the very specific vision I had for my hair. I felt a little nervous but something deep down told me to relax and that my hair would be just fine. And, it was. Billy gave me exactly what I wanted and I am so thankful that I did not have to walk out of the salon unhappy. He went as far as to cut my hair dry to ensure the layers would fall at the right place. He trimmed the parts I felt were uneven. He worked really hard and I really appreciated his efforts as I know I am not an easy client to deal with. Billy, if you're reading this - thank you!!! I am very pleased and happy with my hair. I have no idea what he put in it but my hair feels as soft and shiny as silk. I am a happy girl. I highly recommended Billy for haircuts. If I hadn't paid before leaving I would have given him a bigger tip because he sure deserved it. My haircut cost $50 + tip. He spent about an 1 hour 45 minutes cutting it. The owner response is not truth!! I was there on time at 1p, when I walked in, Demi was still working with another client, after 10pm, she walked to me and talked to me the pricing, she mentioned $300 to highlight my hair, I did not argue, then she went back to the client and continued with another client. When I asked that why I had to wait when my appointment was at 1p, I was told that appointment was not set exactly, it is all depends on how quickly she can finish the previous one. Most salon leave the widows when they make the appointment with clients so the clients won't wait, then they pointed to another stylist, he told me that I had to wait for another 20 min before he can work on me, after spending 30 min at the salon doing nothing but waiting, I left the salon, huge disappointed that this salon does not respect client's time. read more

First time here, recommended by a friend. Service was good, greeted by friendly people at the front desk. They will ask if you want something to drink...(coffee, tea or water), which not many places do that. The place seems well organized and they use Moroccanoil products which was nice. You get the standard consulting, wash/blow dry, cut and style. I wish they did more head massages during the wash. The cut was good, my stylist (Evan) explained everything before she started. Price was reasonable...since most places now range from $50-65 for women cut, tip was given separately. Overall would recommend, my friend got her hair dyed here and result was good. Here's my story: I wanted to do something different to my hair but I'm so apprehensive bc usually when I get it done, it never comes out exactly the way I ask for. I saw an old friend from high school that does hair now. Her pix on fb looked pretty good so I thought, why not contribute to her hustle, right? I left her place with orange brassy hair :( I couldn't even sleep that night n came to work with a beanie on - I'm a secretary. I wanted to support my local businesses so I looked for a place in Monterey Park. The reviews were all great n consistent for all the stylist here. The before n after pix spoke for themselves. I knew I was gonna have to drop a couple of bills to get it fixed and done right so I called n made an appointment. The people here could not be nicer!!! My appointment started promptly. They did work a little in between other clients but they had timers on n they all knew what they were doing. If my stylist got a little busy, she made sure someone else was taking care of me. My hair took hours to fix n they never rushed. I can tell they knew a job worth doing, is worth doing well! I hugged my stylist (bc needless to say I now have a stylist) when she was done!! My hair looks amazing!! My best friend said this is the best he's ever seen my hair n the compliments at work keep coming in =) Like I said, I don't usually do my hair so I don't know what something like what I got runs. This is seriously a long overdue review. I have been toying with the idea of doing a balayage in a lighter blonde hue and am so glad I trusted Vicki. She communicated to me what she was going to do, that she couldn't make any promises and gave me suggestions on what would keep my hair resilient. Vicki made it known that she didn't want to damage my hair. She even kept me "on trend" by suggesting I go with a heavy look haircut verses my normal go to long layers. Overall, I'm happy with the results and only wish I had more budget to get my hair done by her all the time LOL! The three stars are a credit for my awesome stylist Billy! Unfortunately, my reputation as a Yelper precedes me somehow. When I was leaving, the female stylist that was next to me (dyeing her client's hair a bright red) tells her client 'that's the complainer'. It was obvious she was referring to me. Her client either oohed or laughed, I tuned them out. If you never give negative reviews or don't mind mean gossipy female stylists, then you might try this place. If you do, I recommend Billy! He is talented, knowledgeable and friendly. He understood what I wanted in the future (for my hair...who the heck knows what they want to be when they grow up) and that I wanted some style currently. That is exactly what I got! The salon's suite number is 225, but they are on the ground floor by the escalator. The underground garage is counted as a floor. Firstly, I definitely a fan of letting the hair stylist loose and showing me what they got. This way they will play to their strengths and show me their style. After having a session with Amy Chen, I was extremely impressed with the way she analyzed and made suggestions about my hair. I was very excited to cut my hair after debating for months on cutting my long locks to a nice lob. I chose this place because of all the great reviews it had. I walked in and the receptionist was very welcoming and I was quickly seated on Billy's chair for my cut. I explained to Billy I wanted a lob (long bob cut) in an "A" line style. I showed him 3 pictures of what I wanted ( please see pictures). Clearly my hair was long enough for the cut I wanted. However, Billy completely destroyed my hair. He kept saying he was texturizing my hair. However, he left choppy messy hair with no symmetry. He layered my hair and left short and long hair in odd angles. The back was longer than the front and the front is really short and choppy. None of the ends blend. Nothing like a lob, not even close. He left me looking like the Chucky doll. I was charged $50 to get my hair completely ruined and with a haircut I cannot possible fix without cutting super short or waiting for it to grow. This man completely destroyed my confidence in my appearance. I had to ask him to stop cutting because it was getting shorter and shorter and choppier. He said I can't give you want you want because your hair was too short. Being completely honest, i did have bangs that had grown out but they fell about 2 inches below my cheeks and the rest of my hair was long enough to give me what i asked for. I would have appreciated if he had told me he couldn't do it before he started cutting my hair instead of cutting my hair however HE felt looked best or however HE liked. As a paying customer i feel I deserve honesty and I did not get that at this salon. With that being said, I payed and left this place crying. I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone! He really took his time, sectioned my hair, cut and when he thinned out my hair, he didn't use the thinning shears like most ppl do, but used the scissors to thin out my hair, this takes a lot more skill! I think i found my new hair salon! I went in on a Tue afternoon without an appointment, with my friend and they happened to have time for us and were super nice. Vicky was my stylist and she did good job (Penni helped with highlights). I don't know much about hair and she actually took the time to explain everything and chemicals used and she recommended colors and haircut for my face type and skin color (round, tan). I went in for texture because my hair was brown and heavy and boring and I came out with cute layers and highlights. I love it! I read a review on Yielp about how they weren't to welcoming towards non-mandarin speakers and was a bit hesitant, but im a Latina and they were very friendly. I wanted to like this place since there are so many 5 star reviews. Unfortunately, I have to agree with the other reviewers regarding the pricing. I called to get a quote before hand and they quoted $370 for balayage plus cut which is already on the higher end. When I am done, i was told that it would be $400!!! I wouldn't mind as much if the hair turned out the way I wanted but it didn't. I asked for ash brown and showed the stylist the photo of what I wanted, I walked out with blonde color !!! I feel like they over bleached (two times) my hair so they can charge more, they care more about your money than your hair! Very disappointed... updated review: I have been using color protecting products and the color only lasted about 5 washes. I spoke with Jenny (hair stylist who did my hair) and she offered a redo. When I got there, she basically told me that another bleach is needed in order to get my hair to ash brown and it will also only last about 5 washes... Is she listening to herself talking?!?!?! Seriously!?!?!? I told her I didn't want to further damage my hair and further more, who would pay over 400 bucks for a temporary hair color??? I ended up getting a darker color and sure enough, only lasted about 5 washes and I am blonde again!!! To all the yelpers out there, do yourself a favor, stay as far away as possible from this UNETHICAL and unprofessional place. Came here for balayage retouch. I found Jenny Chia through her instagram, all her instagram photo look stunning so I figured why not let her do the magic on my hair. Usually my balayage takes different visits for further process but Jenny finished everything at once. The whole process takes about 5 hours but the result definitely worths it. Jenny is also super friendly and talented. She would talk you through the process and even provides you with the price before any process. I would highly suggest her to anyone. I got a wave perm with Jenny and my hair was damaged and fried. She insisted on leaving the perming solution in and not rinsing it out before putting the neutralizing solution on because she said it would be more effective. I've never heard of this before, but since she was the hairstylist, I assumed she was experienced and knew what she was doing. Nope, trust yourself when you think something is wrong. I consulted later with my regular hairdresser (out of state) who has been doing my perms for years and never has damaged my hair. The perming solution should always be rinsed out before adding the neutralizer solution. The damages have been done. I'm still growing out my hair 7 months later and still have to wait a few more months before I can get another perm. read more

I was there 2 weeks ago! I called in the morning of a Sunday and got the appointment in the afternoon. This was my first visit with them. Got there a little early and I was taken in very quick. I went in to this Salon to cut and dye my hair. The dye I love but the haircut not so well. My hair originally length is to my chest. Demi only cut to my collarbone length. No difference at all that my hair has been cut at all. The whole purpose is to CUT MY HAIR. She only cut my hair to my shoulder length and that's it. Paid $55 for a haircut that I can get it somewhere else that willing to do what the CUSTOMER WANTS! I call the salon for a recut, and still not call back. Just be careful when you coming here. After reading all the positive reviews on Chez Moi, I decided to take my friend with me to give it a try. I had high expectations before going there but my haircut didn't turn out to be even close to what I've wanted. I had Billy as my hair stylist, and right when i went in, he asked me how i would want to cut my hair. I told him the kind of style I wanted, but he said with my hair, it is impossible for me to have that kind of hair. COME ON. So I told him i guess i just want my hair shorter with highlights. He decided to cut my hair for like 5 minutes first before he started dying. I was very confused 'cause don't they usually finish cutting first then start the dying? so i asked him & he said well, he's just not done yet. i told him just to do a little touch up on the roots then do the highlight, but then he convinced me to change my hair color to match up with the highlight. Turns out, the highlight color and base color are so similar that you can't even tell I go highlights... that's not the worst part, afterwards, he tries to finish cutting my hair, my bangs turned out to be so short. literally, so short, that i looked like a dumb 3 yrs old girl. when i was washing my hair, the guy asked me why did i come to the place. So i told him it was because of yelp. then he told me most of the good reviews here are written by themselves... so DONT TRUST! in the end. i paid 165 for a haircut that looked so bad and highlights that you can't even see. i still tiped but i will not go back to that place ever again. read more

First, I want to say that I will not recommend to any of my friends to go there! Yesterday, I had hair cut+coloring+perming and TODAY I found that on the back of my neck, there is a "bruise-like" area and i dont know what it is. SO I took pics and IT is a WOUND and my skin is peeled! the assistant was nice and told me to be patient while she was tryin to "rub off" the chemicals( from the coloring). and she was also nicely telling me that it'd hurt a bit and she'd try not to rub too hard. BUT I guess, she forgot to tell me that my skin would be peeled off and there is wounD!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my 1st time goin there because the stylist did a pretty nice job on my friend's hair and my friends gave her a lot of compliments. I went and showed her the style I wanted. BUT my hair style ends up like a 60-yr-old grandma. I understand that everyone's specialty is different so I am satisfied with the cut and coloring. The people at this salon are nice and will accomodate you into their schedule. The catch is that they will schedule multiple people for the same time slot with the same stylist. Used to go to Demi, but not a fan of how she'll be working on multiple people at the same time. If I'm going to be spending the money, I want attention to be paid only on me; think that's pretty fair and standard. Recently I got my hair colored and while she had her "student" color my hair while she "overlooked," she was cutting the hair for someone else. I noticed that this was also happening next to me with another stylist. When my hair was done, I expressed that I didn't like the color and my feelings were ignored. If you want a good quality color or cut, better off going somewhere else where your time is not split amongst other people. Will not be coming back here. read more

I was super hesitant on trying a new salon out but with my busy schedule recently, I just couldnt drive to my usual spot.. Regis at the Santa Anita Mall. I heard about this place through a guy friend who gets his hair cut here by his friend... ok basically his friend works here (haha). I don't think I am the typical asian and was kind of scared of what they would do... but I just needed a trim with layers... and that couldnt turn out that bad.... right? Tried to schedule a last min appt (same day) with my friends friend but she wasnt scheduled to work that day. The receptionist started naming a bunch of names starting with Evan, Andy, etc etc etc etc etcccccccc... and all I had to work with were names that I DIDNT want, thanks to the negative yelp reviews. (thanks guys!) I chose the first name, Evan. (Only because that was the only name I could remember...) Thinking about how I've never had my hair cut by a guy before... I was nervous. Waited a few minutes and a guy came and asked me to follow him. He started to wash my hair... and it wasnt good.. actually, probably the worst hair wash I've ever had... thinking the whole time, "omg this guy is going to be cutting my hair???? I hope he is better at cutting hair than he is washing hair..." basically, it felt as if he had a hang nail in one of the fingers and scratching my head with it... then he would do this thing where he would flick the center of my hairline and omg, it hurt so bad. I should have said something but... he was going to cut my hair... I didnt want to be bald at the end of this session. I get to my seat... a girl greets me... and starts working on my hair!!! Evan was a girlllll... (sighhhh)... ((I'm sorry it took this long to get to where I am))) The girl was very nice, asked me lots of questions, was very personable. She taught me a lot about how to care and maintain my very thick and naturally wavy/tacky hair. She cut it, straightened it and I loved the end result. I would definitely come back to Evan again. She was super nice, very sweet and probably more friendly than the other girls I saw there. Hair was about $40? Which I thought was very reasonable. I love my cut so what more can I say? Next time... I was told about Code 5 by an aunt that has a knack for finding reliable stylist. This place is truly great, I went in with mid back length lack luster boring hair kept in a pony tail as a remedy...after an enlightening conversation about what length was good for my hair and face and a conference on how much time i spend on it , Evan-my fave, let me have it. I was a true knockout after this hair session, yes, session-prepare to spend 1:30-3 hrs. depending on your treatment. The best part is the scalp and neck massage ( the warm water running through your hair is oh so spectacular) and the hot tea, cold tea or lemonade you can sip. I have to agree with my fellow yelper on not being able to fully appreciate the cut at first sight, but after a week it' the best thing in the world. I am as plain jane as can be , but Evan has given me the confidence to do lots with my hair. My latest adventure? A short textured bob with red chunky highlights that i can hide and expose as needed. LOVE IT!!! Annual update...so since last year i have been to Evan about 5 times and each time come out looking awesome- the best is when people i see every week asking if i did something new with my hair beacause the texture, color and cut are so great, it takes on a life of its own. About the scalp massage, i dont want anyone to think im jaded, my ex-assistant Mary was awesome. but shes not there when im there anymore, so i get someone i dont know and who is scratching my head- at 5 pm, after a day of work, and late for dinner a headache is easy to come by and she has a knack for finding it. But really, if only we opened our eyes and verbalized what we were thinking (ie: please dont torture me!) then we could stop our suffering, I'm just saying... I love that i dont need to know what i want and that Evan will help me figure it out. I went here based on Yelp reviews and really liked it. My stylist was Amy. She was really fast and really good with my hair--cut it exactly as I wanted it. I have long hair and wanted to keep the length but get rid of some dead weight. She layered it and it only took her about 30 mins to give me the complete look. Didn't like the end styling but I quickly fixed the front part when i got in my car--just didn't like the way my front hair was situated--nothing to do with the cut. Cut was $45 and $5 tip.
