Cheyenne Peak (via Buckskin Cliffs Trail) - Las Vegas, NV (215 & Cheyenne)
This review is only for the peak.
Cheyenne Peak is a small mountain located off Cheyenne & 215. Views from the peak include Reverence Park, Hunter Mountain, Lone Mountain, and Red Rock Canyon. Views from a distance include Gass Peak, Sunrise/Frenchman, Black Mountain, and of course, our lovely "Vegas Baby" strip. The hike to the peak is less than a mile and with an elevation gain of 843 feet. The hike is not very tough, but still dangerous if you are not careful.
I recommend parking at the Buckskin Cliff Shadows parking lot. Look for the small mountain with a flag at the top. That is the peak. From the parking lot, follow the wash south. There is a trail leading up to the peak about a quarter mile in. The trail is highly defined with very little switchbacks which means you'll be hiking straight up. The hike up is less than a half a mile to the peak and slippery due to the loose gravel. Hike poles are not a must, but useful if want that added stability during the ascend and descend.
Overall, I like this peak. It is close to home, quick to the top, not as busy as Lone Mountain, and the views are great.
NOTE: AllTrails has Cheyenne Peak as a 4.6-mile hike RT. AllTrails includes the Buckskin Cliffs Trail, which loops around Hunter Mountain. read more
