Most of the reviews complain about gas prices. If you travel, it is quite common for prices to be significantly higher prior to a long stretch through the desert. Heck, I live in a meteopolitan city and the gas at the corner costs the same as the gas here. Anyhoot, decent bathrooms that you can use without stench frowning. Subway is across the street if you're hungry. What's really cool is that this truck stop has a lot of open space for 18 wheelers to park, rv's, tour buses, trucks with boats and F150's. Heck, the laundry is open and is only $1.50 to wash and $1.50 to dry. I can dig it. I parked across the street in the other empty lot and I did a 10 minute yoga routine to wake me up and stretch out the bodily kinks. What's really freakin' cool is when I was doing triangle pose and looked up at the sky, low and behold, a helicopter was on top of the service station pumps. A sure anomaly to wake up the senses. Expect upcharges or plan ahead. A perfect stop for truckers. A good pit stop for a quickie bathroom break...and yoga. If you you are a horny couple, you can even get a quickie in without being noticed. read more

I would give five stars to the mini market. It has an amazing amount of stuff crammed into a relatively small area. The displays are clean and clearly marked. In addition to snacks and drinks, they have a good selection of automobile related items. A real plus are the bathrooms. This place has been expanded and they have several clean bathrooms that are available to anyone that drops in. To me, that's a real bonus and should be acknowledged. The one negative that people have associated with this Chevron is the price of the gasoline and diesel. It's typically a dollar more per gallon than you would find in already expensive San Diego. A lot of people coming from Arizona do not realize that there are TWO more gas stations up the grade, about 15 miles past this Chevron. Of those two gas stations/mini markets, one is a Chevron (apparently owned by the same owner that owns the one in Ocotillo) and the other is a Shell station. Both of theses stations have larger mini markets and the Shell has a subway (at least last time I dropped in). You will not save much, if anything, on gasoline, but these mini markets have a much larger selection. If you are just low on fuel and headed west, you will want to get gas either at the Chevron in Ocotillo or one of the two gas stations "up the hill." After that, it's 40 miles before the next gas station. If you're confident you have at least 40 miles in your tank, wait until you hit Alpine or El Cajon. The gas will be at least a dollar less per gallon than any of the aforementioned gas stations. read more

Easy to get to and I noticed the workers do clean somewhat of the place. Be careful getting in, both entrance slopes can get difficult if you do not have 4 wheel like us. There is a gravel parking lot,, literally avoid that you will see an actual pavement road few feet ahead. Just watch out for big trucks trying to pull out fast or taking up the whole entrance. Yes it has overprice gas, but worth the stop if you really need it. read more

This chevron has a woman that works graveyards. I walked inside and was looking for propane tanks. I found 2 tanks sitting in the corner by the gas cans and car fluids. I brought it to the register and paid for it. When walking out I notice a container full of propane tanks outside. I walked inside and told her I bought an empty tank and if she can exchange it for a new one. She said "all sales are final" Excuse me??? 96 bucks for an empty propane tank and you're gonna tell me all sales are final????? I asked for the manager, John, and he had to drive from his house down the street to come fix the problem. Luckily John knows customer service and he gladly exchanged my tank and apologized. The misses needs to get fired! read more

Being right off the freeway and a 30 minute drive from the next closest gas station/store, the prices reflect that location is to draw in those that are desperate or tired and at this point of the drive, don't care. Regular unleaded gas is about a dollar more than the "just off the freeway" gas stations an hour west of here. The snacks are equally outrageous. I bought 2 smack size bags of chips and an off brand 2 pack snack cupcakes like the chocolate frosted Hostess Cupcakes and my total was almost $8 If you can make it to Jucumba exit, you buying power goes much further at either of those to gas stations. Plus, one of them has a Subway inside! read more

Well, what can you say about a lonely desert gas station that hasn't already been written in the Yelp-O-Sphere? High gas prices (expected), not very clean restrooms (expected, but still hoped for better), and semi-friendly staff (with customer service skills of Jabba the Hut), the best thing I can say about this station is that it's here, and I was able to fill up my truck and be on my way. Not bad, just not a lot to write home/Yelp about. Easy parking while we had semi-barred cell service in the parking lot, and plenty of ATV supplies just in case you forgot your orange triangle flag. Get your gas and get going, there are things to do and see out there in the desert!! read more

Consider getting gas somewhere else. I guess if you really need to, this place is it.. However, you can easily get gas in El Centro or Jacumba. The Chevron in Jacumba is even a dollar less! Price gauging at its finest. Not too mention the staff here don't seem like they care about much. Also, everything from snacks to coffee, to drinks and everything else is extremely inflated. Owner of this station is a stand up guy! One of our kids motorcycles broke down on a ride from Superstition near this station. It was getting dark and had to get back to camp before dark. Owner was kind enough to let us keep the bike there and pick up on way back home. I always bought gas here anyways, but I definently will continue to. Thank you! read more

A full dollar more a gallon than El Cajon or El Centro - should have stopped there but (my fault) wasn't paying attention like I should. So I've been coming to this Convenience store for decades now. Last pit stop before climbing up the mountain or first stop after descending it. This is really the only real reason to stop in Ocotillo other than the trendy nightclubs and fancy restaurants - Just joking about those things so don't bother to start yelping and looking for 'em. Lots of parking in front of what was once some restaurant. I'm not even sure if I ever saw that place open for business in all the times I've been here. So you can get gas, any kind of beverage you can think of - not a whole lot in terms of food other than snack items like beef jerky and chips. They also have a bunch of Mexican snacks if you're into that. Main thing here is the restrooms. They used to have actual Men's and Women's restrooms but this time all I saw were a bunch of porta potties. Whatever works I guess. Usually a last resort if I can't wait it out till the next rest area between Seeley and El Centro or the Buckman Springs rest area if going the other way. read more
