(the nearby buildings were also destroyed as well) But they rebuilt this place, and this became the first 'fire proof' building in the Mojave Desert. Fire proof due to the fact that the whole thing was re-built using a railroad carload of cement. (The roof too!) Back in the day, the place was one of few that exchanged gold dust and nuggets for cash that miners could spend. Later, in 1953, a safecracker got away with $1000.00 in gold dust and nuggets. But ya. Back over Columbus day weekend in 2017. I stopped in front of the place because it looked old. Then I read the paper and discovered it was actually old. Then I went in to buy a soda because it was kinda warm out. The guy behind the register was nice. The soda was cold. Boom. That's about how a convenience store run should be.
