In my experience has stations don't have well working air pump. First time using a well maintained air pump in this station.

Architecture-wise, this is one classic gasoline station. Even the old service bays have been preserved and I love the brick touches throughout. They just make them like this any more. Jonathan D. is also right that the the layout is poor and that exacerbates the long lines. That's probably due to the original design of this place and its historical preservation. And after looking at his 2008 receipt, I never thought I'd reach a point where I was happy to be paying $3 a gallon for gasoline! Another historical note - This used to be a Shell station and the centrally located Chevron station (with service garage) used to located on Solano Avenue where you now find La Farine. read more

i SUPER love this gas station, as does my car when I fuel it with super unleaded... what a gorgeous architectural gem of a gas station, always filled with soapy water and towels, convenient. But most of all.... awesome prices!!!! in comparison to other Shells, Chevrons, or 76's, their gallon prices definitely stay quite competitive. A great place to fill 'er up. This is a terrible place. Don't patronize it. When we drove a few feet forward, forgetting to remove the hose, the connector to the hose came apart. The clerk raced out, before we could see if we could reattach it, handed a preprinted form to us and charged us $200! Ripoff! Other customers at the station said "You shouldn't pay it." No bathroom!! One of the biggest reasons that I always choose to pay the high price of Chevron gas is for one thing only. A bathroom. This Chevron has no bathroom. In my opinion it is a stain on the Chevron name. I will never be back. read more

Easily the rudest, most angry people you'll ever meet. Any time I have to go inside, the clerk is either yelling at a customer or about to go from zero to grump in three seconds. The pumps are often broken, or the card readers don't work. The only reason there are lines to wait for gas is because it's the only gas station in the neighborhood. read more

Chevron that's cheaper than any other Chevron stations in the neighborhood, and they do take credit cards. Too bad the place was ALWAYS crowded and the drive way was kind of confusing as it's only one way. Take a bit of getting used and you'll be ok. Too many people cleaning their windshields at this station, so the wash solution was actually dark! This also stalled the service and made the line even longer. read more

BEWARE, BEWARE! I have a car with a 15.9 gallon gas tank max. Today, I went to fill at the pump nearest the smog check garage location....and used my credit card. According to the pump, I was given 19.5 gallons!! and charged for it. I was perplexed, and then angry because when I started my car the gas gauge showed that I had just over 1/2 tank of gas. read more

I stopped by to get my car smogged at the gas station today. The guy who helped me was rude and abrupt. I was told I needed DMV renewal forms and he could not help me unless I came back with them. I explained this was the first time our car had been smogged and the DMV said I just needed to go to a station and the results would be sent electronically. He refused to listen to my explanation so I left. I ended up going on the DMV website and found 7 day smog on San Pablo. I called them and the guy said, " you don't need documentation, I'll send the test electronically so come on down." So I did and got respectful fast service. Don't smog your car at this Chevron. Go find a nice person who can communicate with people and not shut them down. Go to 7 Day Smog! Very nice. read more

Have to agree with Jayson, who posted on 06/26/2016. This has been my gas station for 40+ years and until recently, there has been no problem whatsoever. Easy, nice, gas station in my neighborhood. I don't know what's happened in the last couple of years, but yes, the people who work there are so rude. Normally, you don't need to go inside to talk to anyone if you are using your credit card, but so often, the pumps aren't working, or there's a problem accepting your credit card, or the paper has run out for your receipt. That's when you have to watch out, because you do have to go inside and ask someone, and they are so rude. One young woman is very nice, but the others I am thinking of are just so rude. Also, the pails for washing your windshield and windows are just so awful-looking, like they haven't been changed in days. I skip 'em sometimes because I think they will make my windows dirtier. And, as Jayson says, it is very crowded now because it is just about the only gas station left in that part of Berkeley. Yes, it is a few cents cheaper than the Chevron on the Arlington, but more and more I am driving up there for gas. They are unfailingly friendly and helpful there. read more

What's up with the shockingly horrible/hostile attitude? Yesterday afternoon I stopped in for a fill-up as this is my local station. I filled up my tank with a $42.89 purchase. Then I went up to the booth to ask the man in the booth for a paper cone, the type used for pouring oil into the engine. He confronted me with a question which was roughly, "Why you not buying oil?"... A bit of clarification, and then he said "NO!!" because I wasn't buying a quart of oil at the same time. I told him that I had bought two on a previous visit and used only one. Now I need to pour in the second one. Seriously? A flimsy paper cone costs $0.02. Why does he want to literally pick a fight with me over simple request for this item which costs literally, 0.000466309 or "4 one hundredths of one percent" of what I've just paid for filling my tank? The owner/operator of this station needs to know that this experience has bummed me out for the whole rest of my afternoon, and that this experience is going to cause a serious feeling of aversion to returning in the future, and now I'm writing about this experience to tell everyone who reads Yelp. How I can not now say that this place REALLY SUCKS. (and yes, as most others have written, this station has favorably low-ish prices, LONG lines due to poor layout (dictated by historic location), bad water for washing windshields, and frequently broken pumps. I have been a regular customer of this Chevron station for years for its location and prices, but i had a bad experience yesterday with a man who identified himself as 'Simon.' (He wore no badge, so I'm not sure this is his real name. A young, Asian-American guy.) I was having trouble with the pump, though I've used it countless times before. I rang the CALL button, and could see two people in the office, but neither came, so I walked to the office and requested help. The young man did not leave the office nor did he help me in any way, so I approached a second time. Finally, I succeeded in working the pump but I wonder why he was so unwilling to help, particularly as I was holding up the line. I think the owners should pay attention to the negative feedback that I see on Yelp! read more

I have used this station for years and really love its location and usual ease of use. HOWEVER, twice now my credit card has been compromised at this station, and in particular at the pump on the east side, the one with the green diesel hose. This is the second time, it happened this last April, and it is now September, both times immediately, ie the day after I got gas at this pump late in the evening. This is such a drag, having to deal with the fraudulent charges and getting the card cancelled by the bank and all that mess. I do not know what else to do about it than post here; the bank-card service did not have any good ideas. I tried phoning the station, but just got a fax-noise -- I may put a letter on paper and leave it with the attendant (I wd not expect much of a response from the attendants) FWIW.
