He has tried to approach me multiple times, signaling for me to roll down my window, which makes me feel very unsafe. Each time, I've had to lock myself in my car. There's absolutely no reason for him to be approaching a woman alone, especially early in the morning when no one else is around. This is not okay, and it's unfortunate that I now have to check to make sure he's not there before filling up, as he makes me uneasy. It's really disappointing, as I used to enjoy coming here.

I'd give them 5 out of 5 stars. However -- the owner is the complete opposite, and is mainly what the 2 star review is for. Background: I've been going to this gas station for the last 8 years, and have spent thousands of dollars using their touchless car wash, with plenty of receipts to show. Issue: Their touchless car wash usually work majority of the time, but anyone reading this, most likely know that their car wash machine will exhibit a malfunction every now and then. The issues often vary like, low water pressure, no soap, no air dryer, no pressure wash at entry. As most folks know, malfunctions are normal with any automated machinery, and that's okay -- it's not the end of the world. The employees here understand that the car wash will break from normal operation, and they do their very best to try to fix things. I appreciate that they actually take the time to observe and troubleshoot. Given that they recognize me as a regular patron, they understand that something is wrong when I raise any issues to them. Kudos to the staff for having the common sense of understanding technology and machinery. The issue I have is mainly with the owner of the business. He seems to be the type of person who's never been wrong in his life, and his natural instinct is to have a condescending defensive reaction. For the 2nd time in the last 2 months, I've been told to go somewhere else instead of acknowledging that the car wash machine isn't perfect. His main resolution is to offer a refund rather than rectify. An offer for a refund is certainly not a bad thing, but also not the best way to handle the situation. He is always adamant that his car wash indicator at the register isn't showing any errors, so everything must be working well... Being in the Software Engineering space specializing in troubleshooting and diagnostics, I would love to teach the business owner some basic logic, but this would be somewhat pointless for someone who always feels they're right. I normally purchase batches of 2-3 Premium washes, which was previously priced at $12, and was later increased to $14. The price increase didn't stop me from continuing to support this local business. Yet, the owner has the audacity to claim he loses money every time I report a car wash malfunction. With his wish for me to take my business somewhere else, I will gladly comply this time around, but here's a nice review for others to see before I go.

I liked the long-time manager Michael (now many years retired). I was out of state for about 10 years, and returned a few years ago. I have dropped in here now and then for an item or two (or just to use the restroom, which is always very clean), and left empty-handed each time because the prices are laughably exorbitant. You can tell a lot about a business - grocers or other - by the mood or attitude when you walk in. I don't know if employees have been burned by bad customers or if it is just more post-pandemic 'Weltschmerz,' but whenever I stopped in here I never felt welcomed, or as though the staff actually enjoy working here. I hear no customer-staff friendly banter, see hardly any smiles. It is just stony-faced, entitled (mostly white) people getting what they need, not interacting with or making eye contact with others, much less exchanging smiles or friendly "hellos." It is one more example of the bratty coldness that has taken over most of Berkeley, which breaks my heart. This used to be a lovely market to call my "neighborhood market," but absolutely no longer is. Before any employees or the manager chime in with a response to defend their laughably exorbitant prices by reminding me of how small a market they are - whoa there, little kitties - your prices are still higher than Monterey Market up the road or another employee-owned market, Berkeley Bowl. They did change the pumps recently, so it's a plus; and looks a lot better compared to the old, rusty pumps. The area and clientele's are a bit sketchy, so always keep your guard up. But if you want cheap gas, their prices are always and almost lower compared to surrounding gas stations.
