Delicious! Super friendly small town service. The German coffee is tasty. I had the biscuits and gravy which was hearty and filling and delicious. Counter service plus regular seating: breakfast buffet in the weekends. German specialties for lunch. Can't wait to come back for some schnitzel!

Friendlier service will be hard to find. This joint delivers with healthy sized portions done well ... it's not trying to be anything other than it is: a great diner for people who appreciate straight forward meals. The hashbrown delight is made better with two easy-over eggs... and the Strammer Max was just enough (though it without the pickles it would miss... it could use just one more item or spread).

Chetek Cafe was a great find and their German and American breakfast buffet was delicious and a pleasant surprise; our first buffet since the start of Covid! We had a group of six and, even though it was crowded, we were seated within ten minutes! We ordered coffee and all took the buffet, of course! The staff were friendly and efficient and operated like a well-oiled machine as they cleared and cleaned tables and quickly prepared them for the next party. The buffet offered a good variety of breakfast items with a German spin on many of them. For my first plate I loaded up with a small taste of almost everything and thoroughly enjoyed each dish. There were also many other things to choose from on the menu if you were not interested in the buffet; we went in planning on the buffet but were told that orders from the menu would take up to 30-40 minutes. So choose wisely! Overall it was a pleasant experience with delicious food in a nice atmosphere with friendly service! You can't do better than Chetek Cafe!

Stop what you're doing. Get in your car. Drive West on 94 until you reach Eau Claire. Take 53 North toward Superior. Keep driving north. Don't quit, you're almost there. Now look for the sign that says "Chetek." Congratulations, you are officially 'Up North.' Now get ready for some of the best German food in WI hiding in the small town of Chetek! Don't let outside fool, this place is legit small town diner and meat shop. We came to try their American / German breakfast buffet. Much to our disappointment it had just ended. Oh well that's what you get for not coming sooner. Anyway our server told us they were serving everything on the menu so we had full range of breakfast and lunch options. We ordered up some coffee, they offer American or German. We opted for the German, it was smooth and flavorful. Not sure how the American compares. I really wanted breakfast but considering this place specializes in German food I decided it was time for lunch. I ordered the Jaeger Schnitzel with an egg. It also came with sauerkraut and potatoes. My boyfriend ordered one of the breakfast specials. I don't recall the exact name but its like Hoffel Poffel. It was a pork and onion dish with eggs and came with potatoes and toast. Since everything is freshly made and they are popular expect to wait for your food. But expect to be amazed when it arrives! Our food arrived and everything looked delicious! My jaeger schnitzel was huge! And all that delicious mushroom gravy....yum. The schnitzel and gravy had so much flavor and the pork piece was so tender not chewy or grisly. Homemade kraut was also a good call. It was warm and had little pieces of pork in it. Oh so good. That's the kind of kraut I want to eat all the time. Hashbrowns were standard, nothing special. My boyfriend's Hoffel Poffel was also really really good. It didn't look like much when it arrived but the pork was fantastic. So well marinated and tender. He opted for the German potatoes which were baby reds cut up with onions and green peppers. Our server was so nice and extremely thorough. She explained everything there was to explain about the menu and all the options. She talked about the proprietors and their German heritage. She also talked about the meat and the hundred years old recipes. You can buy meat from the cooler since this place is also a meat shop. They even sell the German coffee, Amish jam and a few other crafts. It's a delicious one stop shop! I wish I was in Chetek right now to go back and try more more items on that menu. Explore Wisconsin folks! Don't miss these culinary gems!

Proper butchers greet you upon entering this Wisconsin shrine to meat and prepare to magnificent perfection the exact cut of meat you order. On this my first trip and after recovering my senses having been wowed by this little shop hidden in the woods, my particular friend and brother Bunky and I ordered porterhouse steaks (1 1/2" thick), 1"-thick boneless ribeye for the kids and for another day 1 1/2" center loin, boneless pork chops, and strips of double smoked bacon for the rotkohl to be served with pork chops. All meats will of course be grilled, steaks for 7 minutes on each side to yield charred, medium rare steaks. Oh, let me not forget to mention the smoked salmon that is so tasty and served as our biscuit for making the journey between lake cabin and The Butcher Shop. My particular friend and brother, Bunky enjoys a nearby lakeside cabin and will return as will I when next in Wisconsin. Oh, I will return, I will return and urge all who read this note to beat a direct path to the butcher shop whenever you find yourself in Wisconsin!

Weyerhaeuser is a little town in the middle of nowhere, where if you blink you would miss it, but this little gem is tucked safely inside the main town area, right off highway 8. I have been coming to Barney's since I was a kid, and their quality has never wavered in all of my time on this Earth. Beef sticks, fresh jerky, any cut of meat you can think of, specially seasoned steaks, and all at a price that's reasonable. Whenever I cruise through the area, I make it a habit to stop in for some of their BBQ Beef Sticks, they are absolutely TO DIE FOR. Also - shout out to Barney's for their slogan: "nobody beats our meat." They have shirts for sale, and that alone warrants a trip!
