For some reason, I keep coming back to this particular restaurant, because I think it's on the way home. I haven't quite gotten any bad or really top 10 taste out of their steaks, but they were good. I wanted to actually try the prime rib Pittsburgh style but unfortunately, the cook/no chef says he cannot do prime rib Pittsburgh style. We went to this restaurant while staying a few days in Orangeburg. It is a nice well maintained, but not fancy restaurant. They provide table service. The dining area is reasonably large. We had the teriyaki chicken plate and broccoli quiche. The chicken was garnished with a pineapple slice and served over rice. I chose a side of green beans. The quiche came with a salad. We often take friends and family to Chestnut Grill when they're visiting. They have a nice well-rounded menu. Their prices are reasonable. We've never had bad service. It has a family-style feel to it but they do have a full bar. We always order the lamb chops. Beware they put a lot of pepper in them. My wife always asks for no pepper. Their rolls are yummy. The salads are fresh. I typically get fries and sometimes a baked potato. I would avoid the cheese sauce on the broccoli. We've also noticed the fried mushrooms and onion rings quality is no longer on par. We recommend Chestnut Grill with caveats about those three things. read more

Once again our visit to the Chestnut Grill was great! Started with fried mushrooms which were fried perfectly and got a mountain of them! I got chicken salad and it was very good. My husband ordered french dip and he said it was good, although not a whole lot of meat. The onion rings were the only kind of disappointment. They were skinny with not much flavor. This appears to be the main restaurant in town...It seemed like there were a lot of locals having lunch when we arrived. They have a pretty large menu selection and our waitress was really nice. I had the chicken sandwich, it wasn't what I was expecting, it had 2 chicken tenderloins rather than a chicken breast, but it was good. For great food in a family friendly environment, you must try Chestnut Grill. There is normally not a long wait and the staff are super friendly. The restaurant has been around for a while and could use some upgrades but the food is always fresh and flavorful. I would highly recommend the soups and the fried green tomatoes. The pork chops use to be my favorite but they have switched to small thin pork chops instead of the thicker cut choice that tastes way better. The seafood platter is always a hit. Found another Diamond in the rough, this is a family owned establishment which a relative recommended. Did lunch here today, let me say first lunch is served from 11-3:00pm. I ordered the cream of broccoli soup to start, my entree was the pick 2 seafood items, I chose the fried flounder and the fried oysters with the beer batter dip onion rings. The food was fantastic I highly recommend those oysters,I'm still salivating over them. My wife had the fried flounder and a large crab cake With a house salad and cheese broccoli the crab cake was so crispy and sweet, & our cousin had the fried shrimps. They serve warm honey dipped croissants as a starter for every meal,and they also are fantastic. I had a contract in Orangeburg and this was the only place I found that kept me coming back. They have the best Gouda pimento cheese and chicken salad. As I had to make do and live in a hotel for 10 weeks, these were great additions to my meals and kept me from getting fat. Their pork chops are fabulous. The chicken tender platter was delicious. The best place in Orangeburg for an all-around menu. My wife had a salad with chicken, several of us had seafood, and one had the prime-rib sandwich. Very good place to eat . First their menu is great sometimes they are out of items though. My biggest gripe is the bread they give you it's like a croissant with honey on it.( Nope) get rid of it. Ordered a steak with okra, a salad, a margarita and a sprite Steak was "supposed" to be medium rare, steak was tougher than a box a nails, and not to mention it was raw in the middle, not even cooked, medium rare not raw. Fired okra was undercooked, eating raw okra with breading Sprite tasted like sink water with co2 in it. The only good thing was the salad that obviously comes prepackaged. Not to mention the margarita was half salt. Complete trash of a restaurant, could've got a better meal and service by wandering into a cow pasture and biting a hunk out of a cows ass 0/5 worst experience I've had yet, wouldn't eat here unless you're starving and couldn't find a garbage can. The croissant rolls are drizzled with honey. The Reuben sandwich is double decker with blueberries and watermelon side. The chicken salad could have fed three people. The club sandwich was awesome. The onion petals appetizer was huge. The coconut cake looked fantastic but we were too stuffed to even consider it. Our waitress was phenomenal she checked back with the table several times. She went above and beyond to make sure the kids had a great experience which means a lot. The food was good the only issue was that I requested medium well and some of my lamb , the bigger pieces, were still very pink inside. I took those pieces home but it was still a 8/10. read more

I've been eating since I was a child. Since I live out of town, i come back every now and then. The prices have risen but the quality has declined, even as they attempt to make improvements. This time around, I ordered a 1/2 each of ribs with a double side of broccoli and cheese. CHESTNUT GRILL, YOU FAILED ME. This 1/2 rack of ribs must have come from a newborn. SMH. The ribs were as small as my thumb as I demonstrated. (not to be confused w/ a thumbs up) Also: the owner/manager assisted out server in bringing out the food. He didn't even stop to see if we had received everything. He immediately walked away. Bottom line: if you're gonna raise the price, make sure it's worth the increase. When I visit Fatz, Ruby Tuesday, or any other place in Orangeburg that serves ribs, they're worth the $18-$21 as advertised. Do better. It's the end of 2018. I'll be back to note the changes and give another review, hopefully a better one. read more
