Well maintained trees, bushes and plants. Love to see how well they take care of the landscape here, also lots of garbage cans around. The park even has a few benches to sit and relax on. The wooden covered bridge was very cool to see and walk through. No cars allowed.... so this allows you to walk right inside the bridge ( love that there is a picnic bench inside too)The bridge goes over a small stream loaded with rocks and wildlife. On the outside of the bridge there are also another pathway to get a closer look at the stream. Very cute area perfect for a quick lunch break and rest before getting back on the road.

On one side of the entrance around the corner from the public pool there are play areas, basketball hoops, a gazebo and benches. Residents and non-residents alike may use the pool and small children's water park for a small fee. There are public bathrooms, but they are what you would expect from an old, public park bathroom...built with concrete blocks and minimally cleaned (ie: kinda gross), but at least they're available. On the other side of the entrance is a baseball field. In the winter, the hill is a popular spot for sledding and skiing. There is a T-bar and the capacity to make snow. Many local children get their start skiing here because it is incredibly inexpensive to buy a day pass and free for children under 5. If you venture further up the hill you'll find other fields, an ice skating rink, a small outdoor stage, and a picnic pavilion. The views from the top of the hill are beautiful, and from the top there are hiking trails through the woods around the park.

The Harris Hill Ski Jump was built in 1922 and is meets the standards for international ski jumps. They've hosted national championships here and even run some Olympic Qualifier events. It is open as a park and trailhead during the offseason with a small parking lot at the bottle of the hill. I opted not to climb the entire hill but I did go up a little bit and look around. Once a year Harris Hill hosts a ski jump competition and if you haven't seen one of these events…read moreyet, then you are missing out. This amazing event draws some of the best competitors in the US and watching them compete is incredible. The tickets for this two day event is a bit high, but it us definitely worth the money. During the off season, this ski jump become a park that is open to the public. Walking around the grounds and actually up to the top of the jump is fun and terrifying. In the end, the event held here is great, but just spending time at the park in the spring, summer, or fall is fun as well. I love you see the view from the top of the jump and I encourage you to try it for yourself.

Also known as Recreational Area Otter Brook Lake, this picturesque park was a perfect hike to enjoy…read morethe fall foliage. Technically, the park is closed for the season, but foot traffic is allowed. There is a small amount of parking near the entrance and we walked into the park from there. A map shows the layout of the park and where dogs can roam on and off leash. Otter Brook is lovely with babbling water flowing over large rocks. The leaves on the trees were brilliant shades of red and yellow. White bark of the birch trees framed the forest. There is a bridge over and along the Brook. Picnic tables, grills and pavilions are available when the park is open for the season. Further back, we found Otter Brook Lake, created by the Army Corps of Engineers. The lake is sparklingly with reflections of the trees. There is a beach on the lake, but swimming is not currently allowed. There are two restroom facilities and more parking, that were closed for the season. Paved and unpaved trails wind around the lake. There was no charge to enter the park (10/24). Lovely and quiet make the park a win in my book.

I grew up in the area and some how only went here for this first time this week in my late 30s…read more I have missed out. The gorge is easy to get to, as it's right off the highway and the parking is paved. You walk past the tree-line and the pay off is pretty immediate. There is a .7 mile hike down to the bottom and back up. The bridges are well maintained and the trail is labeled, though it would be hard to get lost as you are more or less following the river. It's gorgeous. The rush of the waterfalls is thrilling. And it's an easy hike for anyone with normal mobility. The trails are not flat, so this would not be a great place for someone who is not steady on their feet. Once you've seen the nature - they also have a visitors center, but it was not open when I was there. I peeped inside and they have beverages and ice cream and sweaters. There might be flush toilets in the building? There is also a composting toilet in a separate building.
