I want to a very well known upscale bridal salon before my appointment at Chester and Felicity and was disappointed with there lack of sizes, they also didn't fit the dress on my body properly. I had a complete opposite experience at Chester and Felicity. Sarah made me feel so special and my family raved about her for hours afterward. She helped me pick out dresses that would fit my body type and I ended up selecting one of her suggestions! It's perfect. She knew how to fit the dress on me so I could see if I actually liked it or not. I am so grateful for her. read more

I absolutely LOVED my experience here! I came in ten minutes early and they saw me right away (I was the only one there at the time) I showed a few photos of what I liked, told her my budget (about 700 before tax) and we headed over to the sales rack. I was shown 4 dresses, starting with the one she thought would suit me best so I had something to compare the rest to (she was right; in the end that one is the one I'm going home with) I put down 50 for layaway; and even bought my daughter a flower girl dress! (saved 170; the dress is STUNNING, and the lace matches mine) I had Krystyna; she was an absolute gem! She was helpful, kind, and gave me lots of time to make my decision. She never once looked down on me for my budget and I really felt like they cared about me and my wedding! She was beautifully kind and patient with my two children; and made my daughter feel like a princess. I would recommend this store to anyone; I ended up with a 1200 dollar dress for 699, and I felt amazing! read more

I was disappointed by my recent experience at Chester & Felicity. I had spoke to them at 1 of the bridal shows and had won $100.00 off a dress. I went in, and they were a few minutes late opening up, though, I did have an appointment. My major complaint is the lack of sizes and options. But, I was also disappointed in the service. The lady was nice enough, but, did not seem to really care. I can't say she did anything wrong, just an overall vibe. I felt like they didn't care about my business. This especially rang true when I told them I couldn't find my little chit of paper with my prize on it. I asked if they would consider doing anything or allowing for it. They said 'No', that I had to have that with me. That was fine, I understand. But, it felt like they wouldn't allow for any exception, even me sending a picture of it. Especially, since I'd be spending over $2000.00. I was just left with an overall feeling that they could care less about my business. So, even though I liked the dress (it had beautiful detailing on the back *Swoon*), and have since found my chit of paper with my prize, I didn't want to go back because the whole experience felt negative. I would probably let other brides know that they have a few nice options, but, should definitely try other places before fighting for parking and trekking downtown for sub par service, and limited options. In conclusion; not horrible, but, not the service you want as a bride. read more

Chester and Felicity is a merging of two Halifax bridal boutiques - Winchester's and Felicity Bridal. I stopped in recently as I'm now on the hunt for that perfect dress, with realistic expectations. It was, you know, fine. If you're a bride who envisions yourself in a princess-style gown or classic A-line wedding dress, you'll probably do great here. There were lots of full-skirted gowns to choose from. Because the store is arranged by designer and the dresses are squished so close together on the rack, I found it hard to look through them. If you're like me and going for a more flowy, relaxed kind of look, then you're out of luck. I saw maybe three or four dresses that didn't have full skirts. There was exactly one dress that made me think "This is OK". I didn't love it, but the price was right and I was willing to try it on. Except that you need an appointment to try things on. Since I'm not ready to bring every woman I know along for an afternoon of standing on a podium trying on multiple ball gowns, I'm not going to do that. There were some pretty headpieces and stuff, so I'll likely set foot in the store again for that sort of thing once I've acquired a dress. But for a girl with my taste, this bridal shop is not the right place. read more

I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with Chester and Felicity when I ordered a bridesmaid dress from Alberta. I was informed that I had to do my measurements myself, which when ordering over the phone, is completely standard practice. I ordered the dress 5 months after giving birth and informed the sales associate on the phone of that information. She suggested to me that my measurements fit a size 14 but because I was losing weight I should go down to a size 12. I didn't argue with her or question her decision because I realize that different styles fit differently and according to the chart of this designer I would fit a size 14 dress. I should probably mention at this time that I normally wear a size 4....oh and I'm wearing my pre-pregnancy clothing. Upon receiving the dress, it's absolutely huge. I don't even have to undo the dress to put it on. I can just pull it up over my hips and waist. The bride called the store and informed them of the events to which they were reassuring that I had simply measured myself wrong and that "this happens all the time with this dress and designer" and a tailor would be able to fix it "no problem". A tailor was able to fix it no problem, to the tune of $250-$300. I once again called the store and informed them about how incredibly dissatisfied with the dress, the experience and how much stress the bride was being put through. I spoke to the owner who informed me that she would be able to provide me with some of their tailors within Alberta who would be able to tailor the dress for much cheaper. Approximately 2 weeks later, I am still waiting for a phone call. The good news is, I found a tailor at a reasonable price who has to take about 6 inches off the of the dress to make it fit correctly. Even she remarked how the dress was ordered to big for my size. Because the store refuses to make any amends for their lack of customer service, I am leaving this review and warning on any form of social media I can find. Which, is a lot. I'm sure it will fall into place with the NUMEROUS other negative reviews this store has received. I would take some time to read these reviews before you order from this store. In retrospect, I wish I had. It would have saved me a lot of time and money. read more

Not a positive experience for my daughter and I at C&L. Very disappointed in lack of variety in the dresses. As an even more disheartening side note, at one point in our two plus hours there, I kindly asked the sales gal if I might have a glass of water. "Sorry," she replied, "But there's a Starbucks down the street." Gobsmacked... I'm willing to look past the fact variety isn't the spice of life here, but denying me a glass of water in a day and age when the champagne is flowing in most bridal salons.. inexcusable. read more

Shop is beautiful; but they have a young staff member there who deals with the bridesmaid dress fittings, and she was SO mean! She snapped at any questions I had about the dress being altered to size, she told me I was a size down from the size 10 sample (when I measured as a size 2 upon measurement), and she acted annoyed to be helping me throughout the whole process! Went for my wedding dress. Experience was okay... not like you see on TV! Store Is alright inside, so-so decor, clean, poor lighting in lower level changing rooms. Overall, it seems like they could easily spruce up the place with some new matching light fixtures, a better outdoor shoe removal area, and dress code/uniforms for employees. The first time I went, I was the only bride in the store. The associate kept pulling dresses that I didn't like, and that did not look nice on me at all... I don't think she got my sense of my style. She was nice enough but I felt a lack of knowledge from the employees there about veils, sewing, altering, and anything above and beyond basic dresses (not that associates need to be experts on everything, but a basic knowledge of the common issues surrounding wedding dresses would have helped, and would have made me feel more confident in their opinions). I found they had a nice range of different dress styles. Hundreds of dresses there. Not a lot of veil variety (only really one type of veil fabric), or shoes. would be nice if they had an undergarment section as well. I was weary when they took my measurements and recommended (from their print out sheet from the designer's web-site) a size way bigger than I usually wear. I told them I had a similar style dress by the same designer in size that was 3 sizes smaller than their recommendation. They told me to get the size they recommend, which I hesitantly did. When my dress came in and I went in to try it on, it was really big on me everywhere. I'm not blaming this on them, i just wish they could have helped me out more than just saying, 'oh you can get it altered to fit'. Yes, I know I can, but I would rather have minor alterations than having my dress taken in drastically. I don't know... maybe this isn't a very common occurrence. A was pretty ticked off when I went in for my dress-try-on appointment. I had booked an appointment for a specific time. I was five minutes early. I was half acknowledged when I walked in, and had to wait 25 minutes to try on my dress. which made me mad considering I had booked an appointment for a specific time to avoid this (they were very busy and under-staffed). What made me even more mad was that I had no idea what was going on for that 25 minutes. No one assured me that they would be right with me, no one told me what was going on, no one apologized. I wasn't really sure they acknowledged me and my appointment that whole time I waited- and when I asked an associate about it, they brushed me off. Another thing that I didn't like- they don't have someone to do alterations on-staff. Thankfully there is a tailor upstair who does wedding dress alterations, but you have to take your dress home with you from the store, then take it back in to the alteration's shop. When I asked to keep my dress at the store until I have it altered, they told me there was no room to do that. So I paid for my dress, and walked it out the front door, over the mound of wet smelly shoes in the front entrance, and will have to bring it back in a few months to the same building to have it altered. Generally, my experience here was lacking in customer service. I want to feel pampered, taken care of, and assured when I shop for my wedding gown- I unfortunetly didn't feel that at Chester and Felicity. read more

This is the best wedding dress shop that Halifax has to offer! I recently purchased my gown here and I am over the moon about it. I highly suggest booking an appointment with Michele; she is helpful, friendly, patient, and a great dress-clamper (haha). The store is nicely laid out, has a great selection, and is very clean. My entourage of 6 people had enough space to sit and get comfortable (we went on a Tuesday though). Overall, it was a great experience and I will be back for my accessories :) I definitely recommend the store and Michele to all future brides! read more

I was so disappointed with my visit here. Having called ahead to book an appointment, and having provided the store with a vision of my wedding day and dress, I was expecting to arrive to a well-organized, fun morning of shopping. Unfortunately, when we arrived it was very chaotic, with too many employees asking questions; I was provided with rings to place on dresses I liked, which I never had the opportunity to use as we were whisked away and handed dresses by the consultant. This was all in the first few minutes of entering the store. I am not a traditional bride and was looking for a short, modern dress. After trying on a couple of dresses I was told that I would not find anything in the bridal department and would have to shop upstairs in the bridesmaid department. I was fine with this, but felt as though my consultant was trying to pawn me off. Also, there are no chairs upstairs (or none that we were provided with) so the four people I had with me had to stand outside the fitting room while I tried on dresses, which wasn't very fun for them! I did find a beautiful dress (I will give credit to the consultant for picking it out) but was then told that the designer was not taking any rush orders so there was no way they could get the dress in on time for my wedding. I called another bridal store in the province who contacted the designer and will have the dress delivered in plenty of time (I also had far superior service over the telephone). Something curious there... Shopping for your wedding dress, no matter if you are a traditional bride or not, is all part of the wedding experience and it is sad to think that my memory of this day is so poor. I hope that in future, Chester & Felicity considers the impact that their service has on a bride's wedding experience. read more

This was the first bridal shop I went to. My parents were in from Ontario & we were able to make an appointment with a day's notice. We were greeted at the front door by one of their consultants, asked to complete a card with my information i.e. name, date, location, wedding type. We were then provided with a couple of rings for us to mark our own dresses. My mom & I marked a couple based on the style I thought I wanted & my father marked one based on what he thought he would like. From there, I tried on the dresses. I went through & said my likes & dislikes, from that the consultant pulled other dresses. I have not made my final decision but I am currently in LOVE with a dress the consultant pulled. I am 99% sure that is the dress I am going to choose. I had a preconceived idea of what Chester & Felicity was going to be like (I heard they were a bit snobby & difficult to deal with) I found them FANTASTIC!!! Everyone was very pleasant & very helpful! Consultants other than my own would come around & make positive suggestions. Since going to Chester & Felicity I have been to a couple of other Bridal Shops in the area, absolutely nothing compares!!! read more

Horrible experience here. A lot of the dresses I wanted to try were too small and for that I was made to feel so overweight! (I'm a size 8/10 or a medium usually) I ended up picking a dress off the rack and just ordering it without trying, it thankfully worked out. When I ordered the dress I was told I had a "strong back" and dress would look best if I did decide to lose weight. Highly do not recommend! I should've complained to them directly after I received my final dress but didn't even bother. read more

My experience with them is this. I had given my measurements (bust, length, collar, hips) end of January, received the dress a few months later and I had gotten a size way too big for me!!! One would like to think that the alterations would be paid for, but when I emailed them, I was told I was on my own. They did not give a damn. So in the end, I had to pay more $$ for alterations on top of the already expensive dress. Soooo disappointed! read more

I bought a beautiful gown here, and the service was great, however, the communication needs to improve... A lot!!!.. When my dress came in, the shop called me to make an appointment for the fitting. This led me to believe that the seamstress was part of the bridal shop. When I arrived they gave me my dress and told me I would be going upstairs to the seamstress for the fitting.. Then they asked for the balance on the dress.. I told them that I thought I would be paying the remainder when I took the dress home... They said that the seamstress was a separate business so technically my dress was leaving the shop.. So if the seamstress is a separate business, why is the shop making the appointments for them?.. Also, this should have been explained to me in the beginning, as I wasn't prepared to pay for my dress then. I just assumed as with many bridal shops that the alterations were included when buying the dress.. It was an extra $200 for the alterations on top of the dress. Also, the seamstress only accepts cash - which they don't tell you a head of time.. Today I went for my second and final fitting. When ready to pay, they inform me that they only take cash, which of course I didn't have on me, so I had to leave and go to the bank, then come back to get my dress... read more

I bought my wedding dress from Felicity's before the merger , and collected it from Winchester's. My experience was positive in Felicity, apart from when I went to collect my dress. The store had moved. Brown paper over the windows, no relocation address, and a $2000 dress missing. After searching, I found that the two companies had merged. I was very irritated that they had not informed their clients of the change of address, and at the inconvenience it caused. Imagine if you had bought a $2000 piece if jewellry, to find the shop had closed when you went to collect it .. You wouldn't be impressed. Winchester's was not overly friendly, but the lady from Felicity was, and was still helpful. The larger shop does not have a personal touch, and I felt like I could have been walking around a dept store. The lady who helped me try on the dress, helped me look at belts. I picked out a selection, and then she put some back on the rack as 'they are too expensive' without me even getting to try them. I was not impressed by the assumption that I could not afford, or did not want to pay whatever the cost was of the belts. The excitement and magic that I had felt when I first bought my dress was not there when I went to collect it. I believe that this was down to the service and attitude, and the new location. I also do not appreciate being barked at when I walk in to collect a dress, to take my shoes off, in the summer. Winter boots I can understand, and again the staff at Felicity never insisted on this is their shop. These are SAMPLE dresses that people are trying on, they're not even being resold for more than 30% of what they charge for a new one. It was very inconvenient having to take my shoes off, collect my dress, hold my dress and put my sandels back on. The pretentiousness of the shop is not warranted. And I believe that a greeting should be the first thing out of the staff's mouths, rather than an order! Overall I cannot compare my experience to other bridal shops, as Felicity was the only one I visited in Canada, but I would be hesitant to recommend this company. read more

I recently purchased my wedding dress from Chester & Felicity, although I wish I hadn't. The process of arriving and trying on dresses was excellent. They have a large selection of dresses and a wonderful staff who really go above and beyond to help you find your dream dress. They were very helpful at the beginning, then things started to go wrong. I had to go try on dresses twice because I wasn't 100% sure the first time. The second time I went back to try on dresses, I had it narrowed down to two dresses and was trying to decide. While I was speaking with my mother to get her opinion, I saw the employee who was helping me look across the room at another employee and roll her eyes, as if I was an annoyance to her. She was very nice to my face, but after I saw that I knew it was not genuine. By this point, I already had a deposit down so I had no choice but to purchase with Chester & Felicity. I regret this decision and wish I had gone elsewhere. Other bridal shops offer free alterations or $100 off coupons, but Chester & Felicity will not give you any special offers. I could have bought exactly the same dress elsewhere for less money (alterations can cost $150-300). It was a $150-300 dollar mistake that I hope I can save the next person. Save your money and go elsewhere! read more
