These guys have it down! To start off I am a recovery room nurse at a local hospital. I work…read moreclosely with pre-op & surgical services, I see a confusing & disjointed flow from both the patient & employee perspective. But at NM Surgery Center, I didn't get that feeling. My pre surgery contact was nothing less than professional. I received calls and texts reminding me of appts. Preop screening was done over the phone -saving me a trip. Billing called the day before to remind me to bring: insurance cards, ID, etc & what my copay On the day of surgery the registration office was in the same room - no trekking all over the hospital looking for offices. Once I signed in I received a text when registration was ready for me, the nurse text me that she would be out shortly etc. My wife & I were brought back to the preop area and prepped quickly allowing each provider plenty of uninterrupted time to talk with me. Each step in the process was fully explained so there would be no surprises. My wife was able to follow my progress via text . The recovery room stay was quick - within an hour of coming out of surgery I was in the car and on my way home. Everyone I came into contact with was professional, knowledgeable and enjoyed their job. As a surprise I received a get well card in the mail. It was signed by the surgeon, nurses & the anesthetist involved in my care. Truly a professional experience. If you w to are having a day surgery and this place is an option you'd be foolish to go elsewhere. The other hospitals in Albuquerque could learn something here.

A visit to Dr. Heckl is by far the worst medical doctor visit I have ever had in my 48 years! He…read morekept me waiting for 1.5 hours (!) in paper shorts in a windowless office. No apologies when he finally showed up. The whole visit seemed to be his excuse to get his day back on schedule. He took NO time to examine my knee. He literally said, let's just get to the end, and filled out the electronic evaluation while complaining that nobody should ever vote for President Obama and obamacare as it forces him to do paperwork now?!? plus his 6 best friends in the business have left (because of paperwork?!?). I had to stop him and ask him to feel the swelling in my knee and tell me what happened to it. His response "ah, its probably little pieces of cartilage that broke off and are healing; and don't take ibuprofen to attack swelling (even though my primary care had me doing it)" why no ibuprofen? he never bothered with that detail! As he was quite literally RUNNING out of the examining room (why?!), he did say he had some injectable "stuff" that I could get from him for an extra cost. Of course, he didn't actually give me any information as to what this injectable stuff was, what it would do for my current condition and/or if it were for future protection of the knee. STAY AWAY FROM THIS NUT JOB!

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Heckl. I had two knee surgery's two years apart. A year…read moreago I couldn't kneel down to pick something up. Today, I am back to skiing, racing motorcycles and doing just about everything else I did before my knees were injured. I found Dr.Heckl to be nothing but a very skilled professional and my only complaint is that he may retire before I'm done destroying my knees.
