It is easy to park and come into city hall. The area around the building is always clean and tidy. Inside the building is clean and the floors are shining. I hope more Portsmouth citizens take advantage of visiting their City Hall. I found that the workers love to interact with people in person and it helps me explain what I am here for with visual clues. People are better than clicks on a computer. This is a very tiny Post Office, smallest I've ever set foot in. When I went to mail a package, there was only one postal worker so the line was long. I spent thirty minutes total in line. There was no real way to stay socially distanced from the five other customers, so if you prefer to be in a bigger ventilated room with proper distancing, I would recommend going to another postal location. They do have collection boxes outside for drop off mail. They do not offer pass port services here. They also have the standard sized card board boxes available here so you can take a box home with you, pack it and bring it back for shipment. They also accept international shipping, I'd recommend filling out the specific forms prior to avoid spending longer in the post office. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about their job, I will be back for my future post office needs.

So I had to find property ownership of a vacant lot for my job - let's just say I am a contract manager. I called the city assessor and the sassy lady on the other end told me 'she couldn't look on the map for me that I needed to come look at the map.' Well, I was taken aback by her tone at the time but as my experience developed, so did my understanding of the sassy lady talk. She told me it was on the 4th floor and that they are open until 5. Parking is dumb at Chesapeake City Hall; the lot is like over to the left of the building and sort of behind it and - anyway it way it was dumb. So I walked into the shiny glass fortress and into the elevator. I mashed the #4 button and was dropped off on the 6th floor somehow (??). (If you go to this building, I highly recommend this mistake - the 6th floor lobby is drop. dead. gorgeous. It looks like James Bond's house if he was in the movie Minority Report.) I was intercepted by this lovely woman with long curly brown hair - she informed me that I was on the 6th floor which houses the mayor and the city manager's office. I explained that I had mashed the button for the 4th floor but somehow ended there - she said "was it the other one? It's broken. These elevators are always gettin' fixed." Copy & printers available, private study rooms, computers, this little library seems to have it all. They have a dedicated children's area in a separate area that has plenty of learning activities, toys, books, DVDs & computers. You can rent several books and DVDs at a time which we take full advantage of. They offer free classes for all children ages at different times throughout the year- my toddler loved attending where they read stories and had fun learning activities. Register online for the free toddler classes. Bathrooms are clean and have baby changing stations. This month they will be having the "Teeny Tiny Farm's Baby Zoo" which we are excited to atrend !

Do not depend on the websites open and close hours. I arrived at 10:30am on Friday morning to a closed building even though they claim to be open 10am to 5pm on Fridays. Nevertheless, everything else about this place is great when it is open.
