I love it here! I…read morelove the convenience of the location how it's near everything! The library is minutes from the mall minutes from a gas station minutes from a gym this is just perfect in my opinion. Very seldom do I use any other services other than the desk area to do independent work. Even though I do have a library membership in case I do decide to check out anything I just love being able to come and work in a neutral environment it's not super quiet in here especially if mothers or Guardians are with children but still it's nothing that's unbearable. The staff is super friendly always helpful. Every time I come in I'm greeted with a smile. The restrooms are always tidy! Upstairs and downstairs areas and handicap accessible. There are Stadium size rooms as well just an efficient building and location that holds a lot of events from graduations to seminars. But if you haven't been here definitely check them out. This past year, I've witnessed some graduates come and take their senior photos and evidently that's something that's allowed I've never seen anyone question them... I Love all the natural light that comes in as well petfect for pictures on a bright day. Have fun and enjoy life :)

My family had been super regulars to the Meyera E. Oberndorf Library aka Virginia Beach Main…read moreLibrary prior to COVID. Recently my wife and I attended an annual genealogy event dubbed "Moonlight Madness". It has been on hold the last three years with the pandemic. A sign up was required and I did not see it advertised. I accidentally ran across it. Unfortunately the event was poorly attended. However, the program was informative for a beginner and the staff was strong. The librarians are experts in the field of genealogy research. After the formal program which was held after library hours we had time to do our own research on provided computers with high speed internet. Staff was available to assist with specific genealogy databases. We were allowed free of charge to receive print offs. Hopefully next year when the event is sure to continue its advertised better for improved attendance. You do not need a program to begin your research into family history. The databases are free to use with a library card. As well there is assistance if needed. The City of Virginia Beach has wonderful resources for its residents at its libraries throughout the town. Look on their website for programing that your family may be interested in. Consider using VB Libraries if you do not already.

The awesome thing about writing reviews is the writer can attack the content any way they choose…read more This review will not have crime statistics although I think Virginia Beach is much better than most cities of its size. I'm going to touch on a few randoms and personal instances I've had with local law enforcement. Today was National Coffee with a Cop Day. This was established in 2011 to strengthen law enforcement relations with citizens. VBPD participated. Several uniform officers including Third Precinct Community Liaison Officer Nieves was on hand. It was informal and an opportunity to chat about any local concerns. It was the first one that I've attended. I've had two negative direct interactions with VBPD uniform officers. One an expired inspection sticker displayed. The other a speeding ticket. Both handled with the highest level of professionalism. No I'll will, I was wrong. Other interactions with the VBPD have been in the community with outreach such as in schools and the coffee shop talk this morning. The rank and file speak, look and handle themselves professionally and with dignity in my experience. I'm proud to be a resident of Virginia Beach and witness the good they do everyday in the city. Many may not know this, but VBPD have several programs to connect to its residents. For teens there is a 4-5 month after school program to learn about law enforcement. This program begins this month. Adults there are Citizens Defense workshops and other programs throughout the year. The city also offers officer ride alongs with the release of a liability waiver. I have long been interested in this program. I have done this with other cities and it's a unique perspective. Finally I will conclude with something I saw while driving in Virginia Beach recently. How often do you see an outrageous driver doing something idiotic and want to perform a citizens arrest? Well at least wish there was a cop to witness the violation. I saw a SUV barreling down a grass median to go around a stopped line of cars to make a turn arrow. Guess who was directly behind him...yep! VBPD red and blue lights. The cop immediately pulled the driver over. Watching sweet justice served right in front of your eyes is darn cool. To those that say there are "bad apples" in law enforcement I would agree. But this holds true of any organization and does not mean its representative of police as a whole. I have donated to FOP and other groups because I support the difficulties and challenges they have performing their duties. Thank you for your service Officer Nieves and the other cops that attended the event this morning. Virgina Beach PD have a culture we can be proud of. Police deserve our respect and gratitude short and simple.

Fast and friendly customer service at the Service Desk…read more I wasn't sure where to go to submit my CC application, but the attentive desk person noticed my lost look and called me over. Before I even got all the way to the window, she already knew what I was thete for. I asked her how she knew but she recognized the form in my hand from a good distance away. I can't see anything significant on the form that would give that away, but good on her for her experience. She was very knowledgeable and shared whatever information she could. Very pleasant and quick experience!

This place sucks. Do not recommend going there. Customer service does not exist in this…read moreestablishment. Everyone that works there is extremely rude. Waited 3 hour just for the lady to yell at us saying she can't help us that we need to schedule an appointment even though we completed all the forms online and just needed to drop off supporting documentation since the website said you have 45 days to drop off the documents they're requesting. If I could give them zero stars I would. Zero help and a waist of time.

This Social Security office is located conveniently off a main boulevatd and it is easy to access…read more The building is the first one on the street corner, and it has a separate parking lot. The office has 17 customer service stalls, but usually, only about 4 are operational since COVID. The pace for being seen is relatively good. The customer service is good, and they all seem interested in assisting you in completing whatever you came in the office for. For me, the mood of a government office is pretty somber, and it is hard to get past the feeling that most people are seriously stressed out when they come through the door. I will say that the first person you see is a security guard who offers you a grin when you offer her one. She seems very pleasant and eager to help people. This office is so much more peaceful than the offices in Norfolk and Virginia Beach. The citizens demonstrated a definite sense of entitlement in the way that they complained about everything from the seats to their wait time. I like the atmosphere in Portsmouth much better, I know that's a first, but it's true. I knocked off a star because I am back today because the representative forgot to submit one document that held up my form. She did complete it and give me a copy with a date time stamp so everything is dated properly, so I still think her laughter and smile in a government office on a hot afternoon before Labor Day weekend was awesome.
