She is an amazing Doctor! She has treated my mom with so much dignity, respect and reassurance! My only wish is that she opened her own practice for breast cancer treatment team with oncologists for after care! She is the best in San Diego county and I can't praise her enough. read more

Dr Olson is wonderful however her staff isn't. They are very difficult to work with. They forgot to book a pre operation appointment and after my surgery (3 weeks post opp) I am still bleeding and have waited 4 business days for a call back. read more

I've seen Dr Olson for breast cancer surgery in 2008 & again most recently this year starting in May 2022. Dr Olson has been a superb physician & I have recommended her to many friends & family over the years. I can strongly recommend Dr. Olson from a patient & an RN's perspective. read more

Dr. Olson is a phenomenal surgeon, that is undisputed fact, she really knows what she's doing; she has assisted with my Pilonidal Cyst extractions for the past 10 years periodically (sincerely wish it weren't that way, but I'm "lucky" I guess!) I was very grateful to have been able to get an immediate appointment for removal of a particularly huge (and, yes, painful) cyst, when they were initially trying to schedule me 3 weeks out.... But I also have 'inside connections' via an attentive mother who works for quite a few of the doctors invested in the Surgery Center... The only thing I don't like is that I wait in the procedure room for a minimum of 30 minutes every time, and genuinely feel rushed out once I see her, she maybe stays a maximum of 5 minutes. Here is what prompted my review: After a month, when I was concerned my incision had opened, wasn't healing properly, and separated quite a bit I may add, as well as feeling the symptoms of an infection (fever, weird drainage, pain and swelling around the wound, dizziness, nausea, etc.) it didn't seem important to anyone... No one checked my temperature, suggested antibiotics, nor asked any infection-related questions, which was strange to me. On one hand, I get it, she sees this everyday and I understand the sentiment of being calm while not making it seem life-threatening or anything like that, but I really should have been given antibiotics. I was told to "leave it alone" by my surgeon while it kept getting bigger and more painful, therefore, I ended up in Urgent Care who took the necessary time to prescribe strong antibiotics and fully explain how to take care of the broken incision. Because of their help, now I'm fully "closed up" but I didn't like being made to feel that I was overreacting about a possible infection, that stuff is very often serious and should be treated as such. Thanks for reading. read more

Dr. Olson is hands down the best doctor I've ever had. She is an excellent surgeon and it's undeniable she genuinely cares about her patients' well being. Dr. Olson did my appendectomy and bowel resection surgery and everything went really well. I was a complicated case, and Dr. Olson put in the extra work and made all the right calls to ensure my full recovery. She was even able to find and remove the exact part of my small bowel that was causing most of my problems. I feel so lucky to have her as my surgeon - she gave me my life back after 2 months of constant pain! On top of her expert surgical skills, what really sets Dr. Olson apart is her bedside manner, thoroughness, thoughtfulness, and follow-up care. I didn't realize how important and unique these qualities were until my experience with other surgeons before I met Dr. Olson. I wish I'd met her earlier. She personally reviewed all my scans (even before my first visit and during the Scripps hack when their systems were down!) and came through every time I needed her even when she wasn't on call. I've never had a doctor so caring and responsive. After my surgeries, Dr. Olson personally checked on me every day. I will never forget how safe and assured she made me feel during the most vulnerable time in my life. No words can describe how talented, dedicated and thorough Dr. Olson is - she's simply the best and I wish more doctors were like her! read more

So far so good! On Thursday (7-31-14) after I had a mammogram and an ultrasound scheduled by an OBGYN I was told I needed a breast biopsy. So I went back home and started looking for breast surgeons. I found Dr. Olson on Scripps website, and the reviews here were not that bad (even though a bit mixed). Called her office on Friday (08-01-14), scheduled for today (Wednesday, 08-06-14), and today after my appointment I had a surgery scheduled for Friday (08-08-14). Honestly, I am impressed! Dr. Olson was very professional, sounded very knowledgeable, and did not force any decisions on me. She listened carefully to everything I had to say, asked a bunch of questions, performed a breast exam, told me my options (biopsy vs surgery) and asked me how I wanted to proceed. She answered every question that I had in a way that I understood. So far I love everything about her. I will update my review after the surgery but as of now I can definitely say I am very happy with her and everybody in her office! Her scheduler was fantastic too! She worked with me around my schedule to make sure the day we picked for surgery was the one that worked best for me! ONE week from calling to schedule an appointment with a good doctor to a surgery?! I will take it! Wish all dr's offices were like that! Yep, I would call that, "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" read more

Dr. Olsen is one of the brightest, most personable physicians, certainly surgeon, that I have met in my over 40 years of healthcare experience. Although I am a healthcare provider myself, all that goes out the window when illness strikes. I was seen promptly in her office, she showed concern and was active in having me admitted quickly. Her explanations were thorough and compassionate, and her post-op follow-up was thorough. Needless the say, surgery was 100% successful. In these days of often impersonal bottom-line care, Dr. Olson stands out as a refreshing exception. She is highly skilled and knowledgeable but also very compassionate. She takes extra time to make sure everything is understood and taken care of. I wish there were more like her in the medical/surgical system and I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her as one of the finest. read more

Dr Olson without a doubt is 10 stars in my eyes. She is confident ,kind, patient And simply has a wonderful demeanor. I've never felt more comfortable with any doctor then I do her. I was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer last year. Yes, it was pretty scary but not a complete surprise since my twin sister is a 20 year survivor. Of course, my doctor of choice was Dr. Cheryl Olson who I've know for 17 years. As soon as I told her I felt a lump, she had me come right in. We discussed different options and decided on a double mastectomy. She is the best!!! She is so dedicated to her profession that she makes you feel like you are her only patient. You will not find anyone more skilled and experienced as her. I trust Dr. Olson with my life. And yes, I am doing great!!! read more

Dr. Cheryl Olson is one of the best doctors I've ever been to and I am 73, so that's a lot of years to know. I've read the other reviews here and everything complimentary they describe is true. So to be redundant she is warm, caring, professional, knowledgeable and all the other wonderful adjectives used. She absolutely gave me my life back by taking the time to sit down and talk to me about my not wanting bowel surgery and what it could and would do for me. I changed my mind and she did the surgery and my life changed. I can now enjoy my "old age" by eating food and not just liquids and soft food. It's a whole new world for me and I am so grateful to her. Be assured you are in good hands if this is your physician/surgeon. read more

I must counter the review by Kathleen V. and say that my experience with Dr. Olson was wonderful. I needed a surgical procedure, and she saw me in her office very quickly (within two days as it was not an emergency, but it was not something that could wait too long). She was patient and understanding, explaining to me just what needed to be done. Following my surgery, she called me personally at home to make sure everything was fine. Never in my life have I had that kind of personal service from a doctor! I would highly recommend Dr. Olson to anyone who is looking for a caring and capable surgeon. read more

What can I say except I'm probably so lucky that I was sent to Dr. Olson, she is the most professional and caring Doctor you could ever have. I had a problem with Valley Radiology where they told me my lump was just a Milk duct. I believed them (because she is a doctor and they see things all the time. she just never took the MRI and Ultra Sound that was taken that said I needed a Biosy she chose not to do it) and as I'm watching this lump get larger and really red I got concerned after 8 months it looked like an orange peel. My Doctors office said if they had to go to anyone it would be Dr. Olson. (Thank you Cyndi Jobb) So I did go she looked at it and done a Biopsy right then and I was diagnosed with IBC which had already spread to my lymph nodes. I know I owe so much to her and my Doctors office for sending me there. I started treatments right away with Dr. Wallach who did my Chemotherapy. Because of these 2 doctors I'm alive and doing well. I'm so Thankful for Dr. Olson. Not only is she a great doctor, but she is just as beautiful, caring and a true fighter against Cancer. My Surgery was perfect and starting to look great. You truly are a great Surgeon !!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU DR. OLSON read more

It all started with some drainage from my left breast -- a mammogram showed nothing, but an ultrasound led to a biopsy that came back as Stage 1 breast cancer. My GYN, a North San Diego County physician, referred me to Dr. Olson as the best there is. I also called my family physician and asked his recommendation in case I wanted a second opinion. After I told him of the referral, he said I was already going to the best, so not to worry about the care I would receive from Dr. Olson. I had an appointment with her within a week, and after a discussion as to my options, settled on a partial mastectomy. Surgery was scheduled and performed, but the margins were too narrow and I had to have a re-excision -- one week from surgery and the day after Christmas. The results came back Friday before Christmas, and we had a discussion on the phone to schedule the second surgery. I thought of all kinds of questions by Saturday morning. When I called the exchange, I was told that she was not on call. I explained the situation, that I had questions, and asked that they call the on call physician and ask that he contact Dr. Olson. Not long after that, she called me directly and we had a 45 minute conversation about all my options and she explained everything again in great detail so that I had all the information I needed. We went ahead with the re-excision, and the results were fantastic. I was very lucky not to need chemotherapy, and will soon complete radiation. I've often said during this process that a little angel was sitting on my shoulder. However, nothing compares to the wonderful care I've received from Dr. Olson, and the other remarkable Doctors, Technicians, and Staff that I have been blessed with !! I wouldn't recommend anyone else !!! read more

I had an excellent experience with Dr. Olson. I had a consultation with her, for which I paid out of pocket because she is not a contracted physician in my HMO. Even though I wasn't ultimately able to have surgery with her, she was kind enough to help me advance my care, calling my other doctors (and me) to ensure that the right procedures were ordered in the meantime. Dr. Olson's explanations were thorough and clear. I really appreciated her compassion and follow through to make sure my care proceeded while I went through an appeal process with my HMO. I would highly recommend her. read more
