This place sneaks in services you don't need and then, after the fact, charge you four times the price you'd pay anywhere else. For example, they charged $60 for a gland expression--something that is much cheaper at other place. If you actually need it. There's no upfront pricing, so you have no idea what you're walking into until the bill is handed to you. And believe me, you won't get out of there for less than $300, no matter how minor your pet's issue is. They'll pad the bill with unnecessary services whether they know how to treat the issue or not. This place feels like a money-making machine rather than a compassionate clinic. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for honest and reasonable care for their pets. I NEVER write reviews. but this ticked me off bad enough: This clinic is just after profit, not taking care of your pets! whatever you do, DO NOT buy any of their meds from them. we bought ear drops from them for $170 today that I found out an hour later cost $45 at other stores online and in person! when I called and asked why they have unethically priced meds I received a terrible answer of "we know it's more expensive," but not "why." when I asked if I could return it since I didn't use it and the person who check me out failed to warn me of the price gouging they have, their answer was "no!" We came in here this late afternoon. And we are very thankful that they took us in without an appointment. Our elderly dog hasn't been eating normally, actually since yesterday morning. The nice Doctor took a careful look at our dog, and suggested that laboratory studies be performed in order to find out the cause. There could be a viral or bacterial infection. So with that information the actual appointment time was less than twenty minutes. The asked us a series of questions about her health history. Inept that the Staff here we're very helpful and nice. And the cost for the exam was even more reasonable, actually it cost far less than what we were expecting. Since we just recently moved t the area, we had not yet had the need r find a permanent Vet for our pets. We felt very comfortable being here, even more importantly our Dog hardly even complained. read more

I chose Cherrydale Vet because I went there with a friend several years prior to share in the painful experience of watching them put her aged, ill dog to sleep. I was touched by their kindness and compassion, and the dignity in which they handled such a difficult situation. Dr. House is everything you want in a human being taking care of your beloved pets. Her warmth and professionalism are evident in every single visit. She takes her time to be gentle with our dog and to explain clearly all of our options for our dog's best health. She has helped us with numerous referrals for various pet needs outside of their practice including grooming, pet sitting and behavior specialists. After speaking to the individual in charge of the Clinic and also with the negligent doctor, I am updating my review for the yelp community. Both the Clinic and doctor acknowledged the lack of care given to our dog during her last vet visit and agree that certain protocols and care were not provided during our dog's examination by the doctor. I spoke directly with the doctor who acknowledged that she: 1) Did not look at the blood results. 2) Did not put in place protocols for coverage while she took leave (i.e not informing another doctor to manage her case and contact us once the results came out. Thus, no one realized we existed.) 3) Did not provide us full and thorough options for treatment and care during our first visit with her. 4) Did not follow internal procedures and protocol when dealing with a cancer patient (i.e not helping us to directly contact the Hope Center to get a quicker appointment with the Oncologist outside forwarding medical records to the Center and not asking the in-office pathologist to help with the aspirate of the lymph node if she was not comfortable doing it herself). I spoke to her for 45 minutes. Her first initial apology was "she is sorry that our dog went downhill so fast in 3 days. She seemed stable when she came in." I told her that is not an apology. She should be apologizing for her negligence and the agony she put us through while we waited for a call that would never come. She also got her facts wrong and tried to tell me "Based on our dog's history of lymphoma....." Umm no, our dog has never had a history of lymphoma in our 7 years at your clinic. Get your facts straight. Her rationale for not doing #1-4: "It was bad judgment." "Your dog seemed stable when I saw her." "I didn't know we had these internal procedures and available people on call to help you/me." No, it is not bad judgment. It is medical negligence. You performed a blood test that you didn't feel like looking at. You told us it was 99% lymphoma but wanted the blood test to confirm. So why didn't you look at it? Why did you take a blood test then? Again, we're dealing with cancer not a cold. She admitted to knowing she was taking time off, informing us, and yet didn't think about getting someone else to cover. Again she said it was bad judgment. No actually that's just lack of common sense you moron. I also didn't realize that my dog being stable meant you didn't have to look at any blood results, call me back or ...I dunno...be a vet? Last punch in the gut? She is grateful that I brought up her incompetence to the clinic and her attention. Now she can learn from it and improve. Yes, let's use my dog as a test. Does this bring back my dog? No. Was it her fault our dog passed? No. She had aggressive cancer. Could our dog have been spared pain in her last few days? Possibly. Could she have lived longer if we got confirmation sooner and put her on painkillers/steroids immediately? Possibly. Those questions will always be in the back of our minds because of this moronic doctor. Her apologies were weak and she fumbled throughout the conversation. She didn't apologize for her lack of care until I called her on it. She started off focusing on how surprised she was our dog spiraled so quickly. Yea, that's great. Where were you though? That's the bigger question. POSITIVE NOTE: I commend the Clinic's management for managing my concern, keeping me posted on any updates, and continuing to communicate with me while they looked into the matter. Management was professional, kind and sincere in their interactions with us. They discussed changes to internal protocols. As I still have other friends who got there for OTHER doctors, I look forward to hearing about any positive changes. As for this idiot doctor...you don't deserve to be a vet if you can't be empathetic to the needs of the owners or animal. These are our beloved pets who can't speak for themselves. read more

I've been taking my pets to Cherrydale for over 15 years. They have taken wonderful care of my dogs and cats, and have always been really clear about what I do and don't need to spend money on -- which I greatly appreciate. We usually see Dr. Sunny House, and she is incredible -- completely knowledgeable and very, very good with animals. I believe she is one of, if not the very best, vet in Northern Va. But all of the vets here are great, I've seen most all of them at one time or another. Scheduling is easy, front desk is friendly, and they've always been able to fit me in quickly. Can't recommend this vet clinic enough. I no longer live in Arlington, but will make the drive there, because they are that good. The clinic smelled of urine and was the dirtiest clinic I have ever seen. They asked for a $165 deposit and have yet to refund me it since we arrived for the appt on time but canceled the visit while there since the clinic was so dirty. They brought us into an exam room which reeked of urine and you could not breathe it was so bad. I would not recommend this vet. read more

Brought my puppy in for the first time and they made her feel very welcomed. She had to get several shots and didn't even notice after the vet made her feel comfortable and distracted her with a treat. Check in was simple as someone comes out to bring your paperwork to your car. Still taking precautions from Covid and only allow one person in with the pet. read more

Amazing service!! I've never had such a sweet and caring vet! They examined my online appointment form and called to get my kitty in earlier worrying she was in pain. Then when I returned their call, they were able to squeeze me in that day. My kitty is very skittish and she eventually warmed up to them, and they were able to examine her on "her terms." Our dog Marley goes to Cherrydale Veterinary Clinic for his typical vet visits, along with boarding and acupuncture with Dr. Catbagan. Acupuncture has done wonders for Marley and has helped him recover from a compressed nerve in his spine, which was paralyzing his rear limbs. After acupuncture, Marley has more range of motion and more feeling than before the spinal compression. I highly recommend Dr. Catbagan's services. read more

I thought I noticed a worm in my cat's eyes today (Sunday). Unfortunately, my vet didn't have any openings for a while. Many vets were closed or full. Luckily, Jay picked up at Cherrydale vet. His helpful, light-hearted, and optimistic attitude definitely put me at ease. He asked me some questions about my cat's eyes and requested me to send pics to their office via email. In the meanwhile, he squeezed me in for a next day appointment. The doctors examined the pics of my cat's eyes and determined that the worm was an eye vessel. I felt silly, but I rather be safe than sorry. Love my baby boy. Jay and the Cherrydale Veterinarians were so kind and generous to examine my cat's eye. I wasn't even a client yet. Every vet in this place knew me and my cat. Unfortunately, he was constantly struggling, so we were there often over the 2+ years we lived in the area. It's a bit pricey, but so worth it. Even after I moved, I still brought my cat 35 minutes to this vet because they were so familiar with him and treated him wonderfully. They always made time, I never had to wait days or weeks for an appointment, they always explained exactly what was being done and the treatment plan. Every doctor was able to get up to date by reading the chart, so I never had to re-explain the situation. When our cat stayed overnight once, I know the entire staff including the receptionist gave him so much attention, he never felt alone. When it was time to put him down, I knew it was worth driving up to them. They were respectful and emotional, and reassured me of my decision. Six months later I received a personalized collector plate with a poem and my cat's name on it. It was so unexpected, and truly appreciated. We took our new kitten to Cherrydale one year ago when we needed follow-up care after an emergency hospital visit to Friendship in DC that failed to catch a bad case of parasites. Cherrydale came to mind immediately after I moved back to the DMV area in August, and we adopted a new cat as well. That's where the helpfulness of this clinic ends. We took our cat back here for shot updates prior to adopting the new kitten. We were understandable about the need to re-examine her since it had been over a year since her last visit with this vet, so paid the high rate for this in addition to the two shots because we were under a time crunch to have her updated before adopting our new kitten. We scheduled and subsequently brought the kitten back for her first visit/exam and a second round of shots. At this visit, we asked that our older cat also be re-examined because we found a lump under her arm that the vet had not noticed in her full body exam just a couple of days prior. They kindly agreed to take her back in and look at it. This is where things started to feel really unprofessional. My husband and I had not deemed it necessary ahead of time to go ahead with a fecal sample for the kitten, as we were now well aware of what parasite infection signs to watch for from our prior experiences, and the kitten was not acting sick in any way. The clinic took it upon themselves to manually extract a fecal sample from our kitten anyway, and went forward with charging us for that service. They did not ask before they performed this procedure. While this was happening, the vet also let us know it looked like the older cat had been cut, and that they had subsequently gone ahead with wound care and antibiotics to treat it. Wound care amounted to treating the cut and gluing the skin rather than using staples or stitches. We were not provided with options in this case either. We paid the large treatment fees despite being irritated that we were not looped in to two $$ procedures in the process (fecal exam and temporary wound care). Since that visit, I noticed the temporary gluing had not worked and the wound was re-exposed (not because of the cat's interference at all. She left it alone.) They allowed us to come back in to the clinic same day, and I had asked in advance if they would consider applying the cost of the first wound treatment to anything else that needed to be done, assuming they'd need to do stitches to achieve a permanent fix. My husband let me know afterward that they had taken her back and immediately put in staples (AGAIN without coming to consult first). When he asked why it was not possible to have the first wound care charge applied, they indicated that he had received enough waivers as they had removed an "emergency visit" charge from the re-exam days before, and also did not charge us for the "exam fee." How kind! The substandard care (and lack of collaboration with the actual owners) had resulted in a need to come back in the first place. A THIRD time. My husband shared with them that they had not let him know of fees being waived in the first place, and expressed being upset with the total lack of consultation in our cats' care at several points. He received a very passive-aggressive non-apology and sent him on his way. We've spent several hundred dollars at this clinic in the last week, a couple hundred of which we would not have authorized, or would have asked to involve different intervention, if we had been consulted. It felt so gross to think that these invasive procedures were being done without appropriate clarification or alternatives. We're definitely not doing further business with Cherrydale once we have our cat's staples removed. We had planned to have the kitten spayed and any follow-up care in the future, but this experience left an awful taste in our mouths and we will be going elsewhere. read more

Take whatever Dr is available as they are all good and it appears not to be possible to get both consistent doctor and timely care. All in the practice have a caring demeanor. Hopefully they will be able to hire more staff to handle what appears to be a practice with a high number of clients and low number of staff to handle. read more

Cherrydale has always been fantastic - especially Dr. Van Den Berg (who cared for Charlie when he was a puppy) and Dr. Hughes and Dr. Catbagan have given Charlie excellent care when he had an urgent care need most recently. I rarely leave reviews, but I am so appreciative for how well they communicated with me when Charlie was sick, I was home sick with the flu, and had grad school classes on Zoom. They liased effectively with my dog walker and really are always so top-notch. read more

I don't know where to start with this review because I have had 5+ interactions with this office over the last week, and each has been more pleasant, helpful and professional than the last. We first called based on a recommendation from a trusted friend because our dog Clementine was sick, not eating or pooping, and we were extremely nervous. The staff talked us through the likely reasons and our options on the phone, made us an appointment for as soon as possible and also allowed us to consider the option of an ER visit. We ended up bringing our dog in for an ER visit and Dr. Van den Berg was one of the nicest and most thorough doctors we've ever interacted with. She genuinely cared for our dog like it was her own, and made sure the other doctors understood the situation while she couldn't be at the office. We have nothing but good things to say about this place, and we will continue to bring our dog here for a long, long time. A long overdue review, but better late than never! We brought our newly adopted dog here in 2014 as our regular vet office was closed, and he was in serious pain. Thankfully Cherrydale was able to get us in for an "emergency" visit during normal office hours. The check-in process was quick, but front desk personnel, while nice enough, weren't particularly friendly. We were seen right away by Dr. Boughanem, who immediately put us at ease. After a quick and gentle examination, he diagnosed our pup with a slipped neck disc and administered a Rimadyl injection for faster pain relief, in addition to pain pills for use at home. I appreciated that the Dr. didn't push for x-rays or expensive procedures, but instead recognized the problem and managed the pain accordingly. Our dog perked up soon after being given the meds, and has since been free of flare-ups. It is expensive, which is part of the reason we opted not to make them our regular vet after adopting our 2nd dog in 2015 (not sure what people expect - the office is sandwiched between several of the most expensive Arlington neighborhoods). During 2013-2015, we brought our dog here for his annual exam which was not unreasonable at $89. Given their longer office hours - open until 9 pm weekdays and 8 pm on weekends- we've utilized them a handful of times when our pups needed to be seen right away and we couldn't wait for our normal vet to open. In addition to Dr. Boughanem, we've seen Dr. Meko and Dr. Catbagan, both of whom were wonderful. The level of care here is extremely high, and while pricier than surrounding vets, I won't hesitate to bring my dogs back here if the need arises. read more

Dr. Christian , formerly Dr. Zyga is the BEST vet I have ever had for any of my fur babies. There are multiple reviews that talk about the expensive costs of services here - well you GET what you pay for & how could you put a price on the care of your beloved fur baby? YES- they are on the pricer side so become a Loyalty member and it pays for itself. Dr. Christian is so patient, kind, and super sweet to my little pup. She always gives him kisses & lots of affection before she even starts the exam , which makes him feel more calm. She is extremely knowledgeable about the latest medications & pain management for animals. She also reviews how to keep your pet healthy and live longer. Dr. Christian always reviews the cost of every option on the items that are needed for your pet & is happy to provide an estimate. It's also your responsibility as a pet owner to ask for estimates for additional services, like a dental cleaning. I've been taking my lil pup here for over 6 years and have always had a wonderful experience with the staff, getting test results quickly, and emails checking up on my pup after an appointment. My pet was very ill and I needed and appointment and wanted to establish a new relationship with a local practice. They were fully booked until I was willing to pay $300 at which point they would see me immediately. Would not apply fee towards x-rays. Sent me home with a severely ill pet. There are some good doctors at the Cherrydale. At some point you will need support from outside your vet, from their techs and/or other doctors and this is when Cherrydale falls apart. We have had several misdiagnoses at Cherrydale and 50% of time they will say we need to see him again. Several years ago, they were one of the best around. Now they are overextended are VERY VERY expensive for the care given and will nickel and dime you for every little thing. They love to have your credit card on file. The good news is, now there are several excellent other vets in the Arlington area with much cheaper rates (and better reviews). I would recommend doing your research and disregard reviews of the doctors and focus more on the how the practice is run. You may also want to look on Yelp and look at reviews that were edited. It generally takes a lot of abuse for those people to leave their vet and change their review - ask me how I know. read more

Now, despite paying my balance dec 8 have been been sent multiple letters over the past month from a collection agency and the clinic saying I have an unpaid balance. Our original vet was in bethesda, so when we moved to Arlington we decided to change vet's. Found this place on yelp. They had excellent reviews so I thought i'd be in for a treat, but unfortunately the total opposite happened. First and foremost, the parking situation here is awful. There are maybe 2-3 spots available in the front reserved for the vet and the other's are for the other store next to them. The ladies at the front desk are very nice but they maybe overworked. My gf brought our english bulldog puppy in when he had some stomach problems. The vet prescribed some med's before we left. The lady at the front desk handed my gf the meds before she left and just to make sure they were the right med's, my gf checked the bag. Unfortunately, they were the wrong meds! When my gf called her out on it she tried to brush her off initially but when she realized she was worn,g she did not apologize and gave us the right meds. If my gf hadn't double checked the meds that were given to her, it could have turned into a really bad situation. They also do pet boarding here. One weekend we left our puppy with them and picked him up 3 days later. The ladies at the front desk apologized to us that he was so dirty. They said he kept peeing on himself, which has never happened in the past. When he came out he had pee marks all over him. They didn't even bother to wipe him off!! They also said they walked him that morning, so he was good to go. When we returned home, he crapped 3x's!!!!! If they had "walked" him, he wouldn't have to doo doo 3x's! I don't think the front desk told us the real story. The doctors here are very nice but the front desk cannot be trusted. We will not be bringing our dog back here. read more

GREAT PLACE if you like getting ripped off and don't mind your dear pet going through life-changing and unnecessary, EXPENSIVE treatment. My cat was not eating or drinking for 3 days after he returned home one day with some blood on his face. So we took him to Cherrydale Vet as it was near our house. Dr Zyga looked at my cat's tongue for 20 seconds or so and said he it could have cancer! She recommended a referral to an oncologist and CHEMO TREATMENT. She said if she performs the procedure, it is not guaranteed. An oncologist would perform the surgery for about $5,000-6,000. Part of his tongue may be removed and he would not be eating normally again. By this time, my daughter was crying uncontrollably and I was in shock. The scare tactic worked! That initial visit cost $495, $250 of it was for blood work. A biopsy procedure was scheduled for the next day with estimated costs of $1,200. I told my friend about it and the next day, he took my cat to another vet. The vet looked at my cat and said he probably had an infection from eating something outdoors, gave him an antibiotic and within 6 hours, my cat was eating and drinking normally. Cost: $70. When I confronted Dr Zyga with her wrong diagnosis, I was not surprised she denied wrong doing. She explained there was misunderstanding with communicating the costs to me and next time she would make me MORE aware of the costs as customers in this area (North Arlington) KNOW what to expect on their pet bills. So, if you are prepared for OVER-PRICED charges, this place is perfect. read more

Within the first month of us finding him, my bull terrier mix Victor saw 9 different veterinarians. (He's mostly healthy, just a huge klutz and needed a crash course in vaccinations and neutering after coming in off the streets.) Cherrydale Vet Clinic is our 'regular' clinic, insofar as a dog who has had 13 vet visits between 9 vets has a 'regular' place. A family member recommended this place, where she's been bringing her own dog for years. We've seen a different vet each time we've come in, but always received great, caring treatment, and they always take the time to answer all my questions. Dr. Meko has seen us in the office and talked with me on a couple of phone consultations and is just incredibly sweet, thoughtful, smart, and patient. I am also really impressed by the technicians and the front desk staff (particularly Lauren and Kelli), who are always professional, friendly, prompt, and efficient. I have gotten appointments on very short notice (within the day or hour, even). My only complaint is that the waiting area is a little small, so until V learns to chill out it is difficult to keep him away from other dogs. UPDATE: Oh, he's learned to chill, now I can keep him away from other dogs, and they let us wait in the extra exam room when a feisty dog was coming in. read more

I sent a couple of emails and called a couple of offices. Every email response that I got started by thanking me for my interest in their facility and followed by a breakdown of prices and then closed with: If you have any other questions please feel free to contact us. We hope to hear from you soon. The offices I called and spoke with a person on the phone were Extremely nice and Overly Helpful. I got a completely different response from Cherrydale Vet. I got: [Hello, I apologize, but we do not give out prices as they do very per pet and situation. You may get an estimate from the vet when you bring your pet in for an exam/office visit. My wife and I have two German Shepherds and they are like our children. I won't bore you with all of the heart-wrenching (and heart-warming) stories, but one of them, our male, is a special needs dog. We rescued him from an Oregon Humane Society shelter and he had been by a car when he was a puppy before we got him. He requires a lot of vet care and we have been to dozens of vets in Oregon, and now here in Virginia. Without a doubt, the best vet that we have ever been to is Dr. Dharati Szymanski at Cherrydale Vet in Arlington, VA. http://www.cherrydalevet.com/. Dr. Szymanski has been patient and empathetic, often taking our calls on short notice and squeezing us in for appointments. Cherrydale is customer-focused with convenient hours. I don't recall how late they are open, but we've almost never had a problem getting in after work or on the weekend. We have spent thousands of dollars on vet care and we feel Cherrydale has worked hard to help mitigate the expenses, and we don't ever feel like they recommend unnecessary treatment. As a customer, I'm a pain in the ass and am critical of bad service, so I'm especially attuned to and appreciate of how rare good people are. I can't speak to the other vets at Cherrydale - or their front desk staff - but I can give Dr. Szymanski our highest recommendation. read more
