I have a 2 month old puppy who Cherrydale Veterinary has treated like a member of their family. Rather I'm freaking out over something small or just visiting for a routine appointment, their customer service has been amazing and I always leave well informed and more than satisfied. My puppy is a happy baby!

We switched from Cherrydale Vet to Clarendon Animal Care North last year, and we have been…read moreextremely happy with them. Cherrydale was more convenient for us, but we found it to be smaller and less comfortable overall (while prices were actually higher). CAC has offered a much better experience so far.  Their entry is warm and inviting, and has plenty of room for owners and their pets to make their way inside on their own terms as much as possible. They have a separate entrance for pets who are particularly anxious and/or otherwise in need of solo entry into the facility to ensure their comfort and security and make sure they have as fear free a visit as possible. They also have a separate waiting area for cats for the same "fear free" reason. The people at the front desk are all extremely welcoming and smile at all who enter. The entire experience is warm and inviting for pets and people alike. The waiting areas and exam rooms are also wonderfully clean, cheerful and comfortable for all. They have carpet on the floor and a couch in every room so all have a place to sit during visits. Soft classical music plays in the background, and the walls are tastefully decorated with artwork and unobtrusive signage containing helpful information about their practice and basic veterinary content. They accomplish their "fear free" goals very well. Most importantly, the veterinarians there are awesome. They're great with both pets and people, and they take time to conduct thorough and caring exams and provide detailed information about what they're doing the whole time. They also answer all questions clearly and explain everything incredibly well, without ever appearing condescending or impatient in any way (as we have experienced with some vets at various places in the past). My dog and I leave feeling great and well taken care of every time. Excellent veterinary practice in every way.

Thankfully Dr Fitzgerel and his crew of Caitlin and Jules were so awesome. They were patient and careful with him and took plenty of time to get to know Maxx, and his history and present situation. This was his first visit here so extra time and attention was needed.

We never felt rushed during our appointment. We had a family friend recommend Dr. Smith, which I'm so happy they did. We appreciated that Dr. Smith didn't order every test under the sun right away but followed a process. She said that if she couldn't figure out what was wrong with Cinnamon with the first test then she would move onto others. There was no need to over charge our family unnecessarily. She also explained everything thoroughly and was extremely patient with us. Unfortunately Cinnamon was an elder dog, 17, and was undergoing kidney failure. She explained his end of life options to us without in a judgement and allowed us the time to process what she was saying. We ended up taking Cinnamon home with us and he passed a couple of days later. A couple of weeks later we got a hand written personalized condolence card from Dr. Smith. (This warmed our hearts!) I know that once we're ready to have another furry friend, we will be taking them here and having Dr. Smith as our vet. Our only regret is that we didn't take Cinnamon here sooner.

Oakley has had many visits for both ongoing and new health concerns, and every time the care has been exceptional. Dr. Lockhart, Lina, Dr. Smith, Dr. Pike, and the entire CAC team have taken incredible care of Oakley--and they've treated me with the same compassion and respect. They've reassured me countless times, especially in moments when I felt hopeless, and the love they've shown Oakley has made them feel like family rather than just healthcare providers. I've also never experienced a surprise bill at CAC. They're always transparent with cost breakdowns and go above and beyond to help me navigate insurance and pharmacy options so I'm not wasting money on unnecessary treatments or prescriptions. I couldn't imagine Oakley being cared for anywhere else. I highly recommend CAC to anyone looking for a reliable, organized, empathetic, and knowledgeable veterinary practice.

I was a long-term client of Ballston Animal Hospital,, for 15 years at least. Over the last few…read moreyears, their prices were going up for a simple Wellness Check, it seemed as if the price had doubled year over year. They used to be open on Saturdays for 7:00-12:00 and they are now not open on Saturdays. I requested an estimate of the cost for a teeth cleaning and was given a price $2000-3000 and the simple cleaning, with no need to have any teeth removed, was $1500. Previous cleanings were in the range of $400 to $600 - this included having 2 teeth pulled and medication. The last time I called the office on a Saturday was for a rare emergency about her eye. I was not offered one of their Saturday appointments (I had called at 7:30). Instead they told me to call South Paws or another Emergency Animal hospital DC. I felt that it was important she see a Vet on Saturday but did not need an emergency animal hospital so, I called VCA Alexandria; they got us in a few hours later. As I suspected, the Vet treated her eye and gave me medication, one of which she will need to use for the rest of her life. The price for the Urgent Care visit and medication was $350. We were told to follow up with our regular vet in 4-6 weeks to make sure that things were going well - no medication was given and the charge was a little over $500. I really liked one vet very much but when considering the nice vet and high prices vs an adequately congenial vet and lower costs - we changed vets. I felt like I was told to have expensive testing and other diagnostic procedures done. Prices quoted were 4-5 times the cash prices I had been quoted for the same procedure. I mentioned that to the Vet and was told, "you have insurance." not hearing me say the cash price. I would suggest that you consider other veterinary clinics.

Well, I don't like 1-star reviews but I think of these more as a warning. I saw Vet Ganesh 2x and…read moreboth times I left feeling unsatisfied and abused. I went to Ballston Animal hospital bc it was the only place I could get in within the month for an intake for my pooch, Ellie. I talked to people at the dog park and nobody knew anything about it but had heard of it. I guess that should have been my warning. I went and Ganesh is nice but goes way too fast. So fast, she forget to check on the issues I noticed and why I was there. So I was going to revisit them during a follow-up. My dog got an ear infection while with a sitter and I had to do an emergency visit. This time she looked at this lump which I suspected to be a lipoma or cyst but wanted her medical advice. She asked if I wanted tests done on it. So this where I pause. They ask about all these tests and options but never mention a price. They suggest you all these drugs for every little thing - probably the same reason we have to have antibiotic stewardships now based on this practice of pushing drugs - and never say you can get it at Costco or online, instead add it to your bag. I got a bunch of shots that maybe she did not need but they pushed them. My first visit was around $650 for a check up. Later, my neighbor would tell me at Caring Hands she pays around $200 with meds. So I thought it was normal. Back to the cyst I knew they would ask for $100 for the tests and it is probably innocuous so I said no. She then had trouble getting a hold of the bump so I had to get it and hold it while they were cupping my dog's muzzle. They were unable to aspirate in the office so they said they would take her back and do it. When she came back, they shaved her ventral neck and it was down to the epidermis with evidence of tissue damage. There was sign of blood and tissue injury. I thought that cannot be normal. It wasn't and the lump has grown and there is dark pigmentation all around. I would have to pay $95 to have it looked at even though this was result of Ganesh. No follow up or concern, just $$$ So this visit was almost $700 dollars in the end and a dog bleeding from the neck. I don't like how they throw drugs at you, hand them to you, then find out the price as you are about to walk out the door when you are unlikely to hand them back as you have people waiting and a dog that wants to leave. I called and spoke with their leadership who said this is how they make money. I admire her honesty but it also shows this care about the money and pets must be secondary. I am no longer associating with BAH. The drugs are 2x what they are online and I called costco and they said they could get the one drug overnight and it would be $5, I was charged $110. I will not return to BAH and I strongly recommend against becoming a patient here.
