Oh dear lord... I really wanted to like this place. The look of it is really awesome. Right back to my childhood. We stopped in for the Saturday morning buffet and I have to say that this food was HORRIBLE! You can check my other yelp reviews, this is not like me! The corn beef hash looked and tasted like it had been through a blender. The eggs were ok and the toast was actually pretty good, but even the cinnamon rolls were horrible. My son ordered a slice of pie to see what the hype was about and it was ok. We did buy a t shirt, but we will NEVER eat here again. We stopped in to have cherry pie. I thought it was great! It was warm, fresh and tart. My husband thought it tasted like cherry pie filling from a can. We also bought jam and dried cherries to take home. The restaurant was built in 1922 and looks like it hasn't been updated in at least 40 years but it has a super homey feel. read more

The Cherry Hut is so worth the stop. It is a charming, family run business that has been around for generations. My family all has their favorites and mine is the turkey salad plate. The food is like what you would expect from a farmers wife...so tasty and fresh. The portions are nice sized and the prices reasonable. If you like cherries (and they have plenty of non-cherry options for those of you who are not a fan of the fruit) you need to try the cherryade and the cherry pie. Service is great too! read more

Summer vacations in the fifties were spent at a cabin along Crystal Lake and always included a trip to The Cherry Hut. Last summer I had the chance to eat there on two occasions and was delighted to be there again. Great food and efficient, pleasant waitresses and a throwback to the good ol' days with the décor made it a wonderful treat for this "Lake girl" who now lives along Puget Sound. This February I ordered the Hometown Love gift package for family members to enjoy a taste of those great memories and received a great value and excellent service on that order as well. I normally LOVE the Cherry Hut! I haven't been there in a couple of years, so I was unpleasantly surprised that their prices have increased!! I think it's ridiculous that their sandwiches and burgers come with NOTHING but a pickle. You now have to pay extra for a tiny soup-sized bowl of chips. Add 25 cents on to the sandwich price and include the chips. Talk about nickle/diming the customer. My friend ordered that chicken salad platter. It was so skimpy. My mom got the chicken salad croissant and it was huge. It didn't make sense how the portion sizes were so different. Anyway, I will choose somewhere else to eat while up north. A family of four will easily spend $65+ if they eat a meal and each get a piece of pie. read more

Had the Breakfast buffet. Very good. The bacon was delicious. Cherry muffins, cinnamon rolls, fresh fruit, two kinds of scrambled eggs, fresh made waffles, and other good breakfast stuff. The wait staff has cute red and white uniforms. They are very attentive and polite. There is a small retail area with cherry products and other objects related to cherries. Chicken cherry salad sandwich on store bought bland, soft croissant was okay. Cherry Hut has been part of our family vacation for 35 years, we return once or twice every summer. The non-cherry food is quite mediocre, and in recent year we have avoided going there for full meals. But the cherry desserts are excellent, and I come from a family that has three generations of excellent pie makers. But our favorite item here is not the pie, it is the cherryade, and we have never found a beverage like it any where else. It is made from the run off juices when they make their cherry fillings for the pie. Served over ice, with lemon to cut the sweetness. Not everyone likes it, but our family is addicted, and we will stop by the cherry hut on the way to the airport to get one last hit of cherryade (you can get it to go usually). We are going to be back in N.Michigan in two weeks, and the Cherry Hut will be one of our first stops. read more

We were passing through just before 8pm in late September, looking for any place to get some food in us. It didn't look like much from the outside, but we were desperate. It was a pleasant surprise once we got inside--the decor is really cute, in a kitchy sort of way. Despite it being nearly closing time, they welcomed us and gave us plenty of time to check out the menu. Wanting to be quick, we just ordered burgers and fries, which came out promptly and were very tasty. The waitress was very friendly, despite it being the end of the night. We got slices of cherry pie to go and, once we were eating it at our campsite, wished we had sprung for a whole pie! It was delicious. My family has gone to stay at Crystal Lake every year since I was a kid. The Cherry Hut was always a key destination. There's a reason its been around longer than most people live. I have had the food before, and its nothing to write home about, although not terrible. The pie, on the other hand, is hard to beat. The crust is excellent, and the cherry filling tastes great. These pies are worth the 6 hour drive every time. read more

Great pies and really good turkey dinners! They have an outdoor patio and we were able to have our dog right there with us and thye even provided a bowl of water for him. It's hard to find dog friendly places when you're on vacation so The Cherry Hut gets my vote! read more

Stayed in Beulah as a quick place to hit Sleeping Bear Dunes and heard from multiple people that the pie at the Cherry Hut was top notch. We decided to try to go on the way back from dinner and were heart broken when we saw that they had closed just 10 minutes before we got there. However, before I could be disappointed we wouldn't get to try the pie - one of the employees saw our attempt, unlocked the door and asked if we were there for the pie (of course!). He said even though they were closed if we were just there for pie he would pull out one of the freshly baked ones for us. Wow - what great service, and the pie was unbelievable! Would recommend this place again - and want to tell them thanks for going above and beyond. read more

I have been coming here for 40 years. It is an incredibly clean, neat, quaint restaurant. The owners and staff obviously care about the place. The food is okay, and the kids love it. Very family friendly and welcoming. The cherry pie and cherry-ade drink are exceptional items. Best food and ambiance of it's type in the Benzonia/Beulah area--by far. Cherry Hut is solid, they do what they do very well! Had a large party of 10 for dinner, were seated within 5 minutes. Happy service in a very bright and open setting. Entrees and sandwiches were old school, baked walleye, burger, club sandwich were all good. A bit pricey but it's a summer tourist place. And then there are the baked goods...wow. Cherry pie was as good as my grandma's who lived north of Traverse City on a farm. The cinnamon rolls were sweet buttery goodness, we bought extras to eat for breakfast in the morning. Came in for lunch with my dad while I was home for the fourth of July. Haven't been in for years and it's just as I remember! Great staff/service, cute diner atmosphere (cherries everywhere) and great simple meals. I had turkey sandwich and my dad had the veggie sandwich both were on the most delicious home baked whole wheat bread. We were very happy with or lunch and of course took a cherry pie to go! On my latest visit, I ordered the turkey pie. It looked very small when it arrived, however, it was plenty filling. It was kind of like a pot pie. However, its come with four little round biscuits and has no crust to make it a little different in texture. Also, I would recommend that you order the cinnamon ice cream and a slice of apple pie. They only have this near the fall season so it is a must try. I would recommend just stopping for the pie and ice cream. The waitress was very nice and very attentive. read more

Stopped here when my family and I were vacationing in Michigan last month, based on the good reviews. Went mostly for the pie but decided to eat a proper meal first since everyone was getting a little hungry. Well, the food was so bad! It was TINY little portions, for an outlandish price. I mean, they were so cheap that it looked like they sliced a pickle spear into sixths just to try to make it go five times further. It is family run and you can tell it is all about parting you and your money and giving you as little as possible in return. They have pies out so you can see them, and some cut. The pieces are not that big. Not for what they were charging. We were so turned off by the "meal" (use that term loosely), and we had already overpaid only to walk out of there still hungry, that we were not about to spend another dime on what was probably some mediocre pie anyway. I doubt it would have been that special. Total tourist trap. You get as much or more at a McDonald's, tastes just as good or better, and doesn't cost near as much. Seriously. Next time we're in Michigan, we'll keep on driving right on past Cherry Hut. It was simply terrible. The service was okay, but unfortunately it was necessary to stiff the waitress (something we rarely ever do unless service was awful), but because we'd already spent way too much money for nothing, it was justified. It was also done to send a clear message about dissatisfaction. Didn't even waste time talking to the "management" which is a family member too. We were a group of 7 walking in, and you could literally see the dollar signs in this guy's eyes. You can tell they have been doing this for years and getting away with it. No use even wasting our breath to express our displeasure because as long as people keep going there, they will continue to give their customers the shaft.
