Rustic wooden dock for meeting and greeting the Sayville Ferry Company boats to/from the warm and funky, and largely gay, Fire Island mecca known as Cherry Grove. Nice wood racks to store your outgoing freight for the ferry crew to load in for you. Or carry your own stuff on board. The Water Taxi to the Pines, and other Fire Island destinations makes their stop here, too (Phone them whenever u need). Adjacent eateries like "The Island Breeze" offer a chance to grab a bite or beverage while you wait... And some small craft tie along on the right side of the dock. I assume a first come first served basis, but it might be reservation only... Google it if you are thinking of berthing here. On sunny days, wear your sunscreen and wear your broad rimmed hat. No cover from the sun, and it gets hot out there... Also a nice place to stroll or sit in solitude in the evening when there are no ferries... And sunset makes this a top spot for watching the magic entertainment sunsets over the Great South Bay. read more
