This ferry ride is always a pleasant journey and definitely a vibe. In all the umpteen years I've been coming to FI, the boarding process has consistently been smooth and efficient. I buy my tickets easily through the Transit Tickets section of the Uber app, and the ferry is usually right on time. On sunny and warm days, I recommend sitting on the top deck to really enjoy the views. The dock hands are skilled, respectful, and keep everything moving safely. One important tip: there are no restrooms aboard, so be sure to go before you board. read more

I took the Fire Island Ferry this past weekend for the first time and have to say, it was quite a pleasant experience. Granted, it's October now so it was off-season, but I just LOVE off-season experience.. they're way less crowded and much more peaceful. We basically had free roam of the upper and lower decks and saw some incredible views. These boats really are quite robust. With the big chop from the impending storm, the boat powered and sliced through with no problem. Sure the parking is a bit expensive at about 20 to 25 bucks, and each ticket is another 20 something, but hey, the boats get you to and fro Fire Island, safely and quickly! read more

The Fire island Ferries are a great way to get back-and-forth to Fire Island. Parking is easy but expensive it's $25 to park. To get a round-trip ticket on the Ferry is also $25. I took the ferry to Seaview and walked over to Ocean Beach. The staff are helpful and very professional. The ride over was smooth and enjoyable. I sat on the top deck. There are lots of shops, and restaurants and boutiques. I did a bit of shopping and I also ate at Housers. Housers is a restaurant that is on the water. read more

The ferry is the ferry. Fine. Good view of the bay and adequate. But the company treats their employees horribly. Captains berating their deckhands in public, kids (15-16 years old) working 12+ hour days for low wages, and the overall toxic leadership. There needs to be a serious audit of the organization to ensure no labor laws are being broken and that there are no other safety hazards. Some of the ferries themselves are a bit run down too as are the water taxis. At the end of the day, there is a special place in hell for the Mooneys. As we were scanning our tickets one of the workers stopped us and said that my children were not 11 and therefore cannot use children tickets. He would not let us in the boat and slammed the gate shut. He also had no control over himself and started screaming in my face. He then made my children scan their round trip tickets twice. How am I supposed to prove my children are 11, was I supposed to pull up their birth certificates? Fire island ferries do better! read more

Since when did the ferries turn into such a dump on the inside? My trip over to FI there were enormous CLUMPS of hair blowing around like tumbleweeds. Dirty cups, pet hair, Cheeto bits. Really just FILTHY On the trip home, I was lucky enough to notice a dog marked its territory on the bench along with leaving bits of black dog hair. This was my first time on the FI Ferry and we took it to Ocean Beach. It was crowded (of course) for a summer Saturday in July. The ferry takes about 25 minutes from Bayshore and you have to wait in line in both ports. It's a nice relaxing trip once you board. I recommend going upstairs and enjoying the view! It's a nice way to spend an afternoon on Long Island. The downside is waiting in line in the sun in the way back. They provide a shaded seating area for seniors but it's roped off. Train your workers better. Some sluggish tiny blonde high-school boy took both ticket stubs out of my hand on the way over after paying $25 for a round trip. Just had to pay more. Workers should have customer service skills, unacceptable behavior to not look at you/greet you/or direct what ticket you need, just takes both stubs out of your hand uncertainly. Got on the ferry through a packaged deal with LIRR Fire Island getaways. It included the roundtrip ferry ride along with the taxi service from bayshore lirr station to the ferry docking station. Good deal. Anyways, the ferry was nice. It was about a 30min ride to Ocean Beach. Sat on the top deck both times. There are rows of seats onboard. You have to sit down while riding the ferry. Not a bad thing, but I would have preferred to stand up, walk around and look out into the waters. When on the top deck, I do recommend you bring a light cardigan/sweater because it can get windy/cold. Maybe it would be better on a really sunny/humid day, but on cloudy days, it can get pretty chilly out there. Nothing too rocky where you can get sea sick. It's a pretty comfortable ride for the most part. read more

No Rating yet for The Fire Island Water Taxi? hmm... ok Well if you are a bit more adventurous than the Fire Island Ferry crowd.. this is a great way to get to Fire Island. Dial it up to get from the Fire Island lighthouse over to Ocean Beach or any of the towns. You can park in Robert Moses field 5 no need to go to Bayshore or Sayville and do the whole ferry thing. Lets say you are going to the far end of Robert Moses Beach and plan to take the Lonnnnnnng walk to the lighthouse... it really is a beautiful walk by the way. You can park in field 5 indefinately. Then take your hike over.... to the light house.. (that is connected to Fire Island also). Once at the lighthouse, the docks behind it on the bay side ... can be used to hop on the Fire Island Water Taxi! Put it in your phone and dial them up.. they will zip over and bring you down to Ocean Beach, Kismet.... Cherry Grove whatever your preference! lol! Ok so that's my Long Island fun tip for some real fun. The good thing about the taxi is you don't have to wait as long. The risks are.. they stop going back at 7pm or earlier... so if you miss it... you are either there for the night.. or can take the ferry to bay shore and will need a ride back over to Robert Moses. They stop dropping off at 7 because it gets dark and desolate and its not safe to be there really when that empty etc. You'll have to hike back, it could be chilly or hot, and gnats come out if walking along the water late. I think that makes it part of the fun. I've used the FI taxi a few times.. with friends and family. The young drivers drove well twice, the third time with my MOTHER on board they drove like speed demons hitting waves and bumps and could have easily flipped us. They were young and chatting and had no safety awareness. I got up barely and told them to slow down.. they still raced but it was ok. This in my opinion is a good way to spend the day hiking to the lightouse, water taxi to your fav places .. and if you want to use the beach in Ocean Beach.. its a wide part so a long walk. If you need more excercise this is for you!... Enjoy this fun tip... The Water Taxi is small compared to the ferry and exhilarating. read more

Ferry. Pretty much one of 3 main ways to get over to fire island- the other 2 being swimming or use your own boat. Great service, always on time and usually a fun ride going over (coming back is more or less quiet unless you catch the last ferry off Fire Island!) The crowd getting on look like something from a biblical time- animals and children in tow, bicycles, luggage, strollers, errant spouses and all the accoutrement's needed for a day (or days) at the beach. Pricing is reasonable and the ferries are pretty constant. The crew know what they are doing and get everyone on and off as quickly as possible. Worth the trip. Parking lots available but they fill up quickly. read more

I just took a recent trip over to Ocean Beach fire Island. I was very disappointed in the disregard for the safety of the passengers on the boat over. I've lived in the past on fire Island taking the fire Island ferries thousands of times and never had any issues. You would think with CoVid-19 going on they would take extra precautions to clean the boats ,but I took a trip over there and not only was the seats not even wiped down after other passengers but after we left they just loaded both back up disregard for safekeeping!! I personally brought Clorox wipes for me & my family Because I was warned by other passengers that went before me that the boat was filthy!! I guess the almighty dollar is all they care about and $21 a trip they got some nerve!! read more

Parking to catch the ferry is awful but they get you back and forth with relatively little fuss. There are few luxuries but none are really needed for the short ride. It is hard to compare it to anything else because they are basically your only option. But the boat runs well, it runs on time, and the employees work very hard and sometimes in very hot weather. read more

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is take the ferry to Fire Island. It's a great way to start a great day! Arrive early to catch your ferry. It will also be easier to park. The earlier the ferry, the better chance you have of getting a spot in the lot across the street. Then buy your ticket, wait on line, walk aboard the boat and head upstairs to sit and bask in the sun while the wind blows through your hair as the boat very loudly chugs through the water. It's great! Try to catch a return trip BEFORE the last two ferries of the day leave. It'll be so much easier and you'll probably be returning with tired, not drunk, people. It's a little drizzly, but we have high hopes for today! Summer showers = quick showers; silver lining is short lines and plenty of seating on the boat! Apparently dogs are welcome on the boat, so that's a fun fact - gotta love a cute puppy on board. I was surprised to see that it is a tad pricey for an adult two way ride, $19, and they accept cash only! They have an ATM on site, but I suggest bringing cash with you. You pay for the day so if you pick your car up at 8am on Sunday (of example) you pay for the full day of parking. I parked from Thursday last Ferry- Monday first ferry and paid $77. They try to pack you in like sardines, take your keys, in case they have to move yours to get another car out and *they are not responsible for any damage they cause to your vehicle.* Ferry was big but they charge $6 for beach carts. Employees range from 16 years old to late 20's. Just be careful b/c they could have a 16 year old working the parking lot and he could move your car in a very tight lot. read more

Very well organized ferry business that runs daily to Ocean Beach on Fire Island. The boat is large, clean and comfortable. They are fairly liberal with what you bring, many had their coolers, beach chairs, luggage, and pets. The top level on a beautiful day is a great half hour ride to the island. Parking is a little steep, it was $15 on a weekday. The walk from the parking lot to the ferry terminal can be far, so keep that in mind with little ones or seniors. At the terminal, there are bathrooms and a snack shop. The ferry itself is $19 round trip,and that's reasonably priced for the quality service. read more

I have a problem with the Fire Island Cruises and here it is. My family, friends and I have been going to Fire Island as long as I can remember. The unavoidable ferry ride is actually pleasant and an enjoyable, relaxing way to start out your journey to the beautiful beaches on Fire Island. It is advisable to get here early because the ferry station can become extremely packed and usually people there are not aware of their surroundings which means, nudges, bumps, beach bag whip lash, the usual. Okay so, you're pumped for a great day at the beach, you drive up to the Ferry Station and you notice all of the parking lots are full. What now you ask? The answer you will be given is to drive a mile down the road to Toro College and park in their lot. A mile down the road? Yes, this means that the ferry that leaves in ten minutes that you were hoping to catch is no longer in the cards for you. So you head a mile down the road, go to park at Toro College and you are told it is $20 to park. $20 FREAKING dollars. I am sorry, but, really? Not only do you send us a mile PLUS down the road, but you are charging MORE than you do in the regular Fire Island ferry station lots. Tell me this makes sense. Actually, don't, because if you did, I'd tell you you're wrong. So you park your car, grab your heavy beach bag and chair and you spot a bus at the beginning of the lot, you're hoping it is a shuttle to the ferry and guess what, IT IS. You hop on only to be told its $5. Is that a joke? I just dropped $20 on a parking spot and now I need to pay even more money to hitch a ride from a transportation company AFFILIATED with Fire Island Cruises. This company must be making bank. By the look of their women's bathrooms stalls however, I have determined they are NOT making bank or they are just choosing to spend their large piles of money on other things. Basically, the women's room is gross and needs some serious renovations or a cleaning service. Perhaps both. After you drop all of this money you actually get to the ferry and need to drop $17 for a round trip ticket. OYYYY, $42 dollars later, you're ready to enjoy a nice boat ride. The ride is very nice. Make sure you get on line ASAP. You want to sit up top and you want to have your choice of a seat. I recommend sitting somewhere towards the staircase so that when the boat pulls up, you can be one of the first to get off. Take lots of pictures on the ferry, the houses are beautiful! read more
