The Cherokee Trading Post in Sevierville, TN is nice spot to stop on your way to Pigeon Forge, TN and Gatlinburg, TN. The Cherokee Trading Post is a Native American Indian shop that also has a lot of other items with clothing being one of the largest options. This joint is a really interesting place with a wide variety of offerings! The Cherokee Trading Post has one of the nicer selections of Native American jewelry in the area and has a good selection of turquoise jewelry. This is one of many Smoky Mountains gift shop options in the area and this Native American gift shop is also a bit more than a gift shop as it is more of a Native American store that has a big selection on many items and they also carry a nice inventory of leather goods including jackets, hats, bags and purses. Overall it is a cool place but the staff seem super grumpy and unfriendly especially for folks in the tourist trade! Just a very uncomfortable shopping experience. One of the staff members (blond woman near she's) made a video of us while we were trying to shop. She didn't ask us permission and thus we subsequently left. Tip for store management - don't be so rude and hire a security guard if you want to protect your crap. read more

They apparently have a woman posted at a "silver podium like thing" in between the various sections of the store. She was watching everyone intently and I was uncomfortable with the stink eye that never waivered. If you have a problem with theft then hire a security guard. People who come in to the store are potential consumers of the very products you stock. Win-win situation, be nice and smile. Be courteous and civil. I bought a very nice hand-made leather wallet here and although the first one had a small defect (slice on thin fabric likely from cutting the leather), I called and asked if they would allow me to exchange it. They were very understanding both on the phone and when I arrived to the store. I have read some negative reviews from this place but I just want to say these are very kind folks. In the reviews I read, it seemed the customer approached the situation in the wrong way. If you are kind and respectful, you will likely be treated with kindness and respect. We stopped in on our way home and I'm so glad we did. I was greeted immediately by a friendly knowledgeable woman. I've wanted a pair of soft moccasins since high school (I'm in my 50's) but have never been able to put my hands on the right pair. This place had a great selection of moccasins and right in the middle of all the different styles was the soft ankle style I've always wanted. The clerk got me a couple of different sizes to try and even put them on me like the good old days of real shoe salesmen. Then I spent another hour browsing through this wonderful place. I picked up several other things because the prices were amazing. I can't recommend this place enough. It's definitely worth a stop. read more

Do not recommend! We stop here on every trip to the Pigeon Forge area and have always enjoyed our visit. This trip we purchased a blanket, a necklace and my daughter purchased a sweater. After getting home I washed the sweater on gentle and was getting ready to hang it to dry, it had came apart and had large holes all over it. I contacted the store via face book within the hour. No response what so ever, I sent a picture of the receipt and several of the large holes in the sweater. Nothing, and still no response. The customer service there wasn`t very good, not nice people, so I really wasn`t surprised. Please be wary spending money on their clothing or blanket items, our purchase was a complete waste, and their items aren`t cheap.No refunds period. Beware, Just bad! Bought ring at the beginning of June 2023, The Emerald has already fallen out luckily it happened at home and we were able to find it. Thickness of stone is around 2.5 mm thick, the brown plastic piece that is glued to it is thicker than actual stone. We have bought emerald rings and necklaces in other states and have had them for years with no issues. We will have to super glue this back into the slot in order for it not to fall out. I am amazed at the negative reviews. Every time I go to the Gatlinburg area, I stop and shop at the Cherokee Trading Post. Sisters run the business and they and their employees have always been friendly and helpful. I love the Native American jewelry and have bought many pieces there. Some of the jewelry is expensive, but it is handmade and quite beautiful. I also have bought paintings, clay pots, blankets and yes, even tee shirts. I've never had anything fall apart or break. They do have a section of regular tourist items, but they have so much more! If you've never been in the store, it least give it a try. I am not from San Francisco! read more

The rudest employees ever. This place does not attempt to service disabled people what so ever. I have 25 % heart function and I have to take fluid pills. Well they hit me when I went into the store and I ask if I could use the restroom. I explained my situation to the employee in the front and was told a flat no. They didn't have a restroom. The lady. Told me everyone had issues. Athat didn't matter.i thought there were rules and regulations for disabled people, evidently not. Some people have disabilities that sate not visible to the eye. The staff is WONDERFUL! They're always attentive and gracious. I live more than half an hour away, but I drive up there a lot before I leave for trips to buy the novelty Smoky Mountain candies as Tennessee souvenirs to give to family, friends and customers. They love it! I and my family have bought many pairs of shoes there too, and they've lasted. I've had many compliments on my Minnetonka fur-lined skateboarder-style shoes. Stopped here on our way home from a lovely vacation in Pigeon Forge. Was charged twice for a piece of jewelry and local honey and the Botox witch behind the counter refused to correct her error. Most of the items in this store are cheaply made and overpriced. When I opened the honey when I got home it reeked of chemicals. Staff unfriendly and products low quality. This place was really cool!! There was a huge variety of really neat turquoise jewelry (ranging from low to high prices depending on the quality) that they can actually tell you where it was from! It's not just mass produced jewelry like most stores. The souvenir shirt prices were really great! You can buy shirt and hat combos and sweatshirt and shirt combos for great prices!! My dad found an awesome turquoise ring, my mom found a bracelet, necklace, and sweatshirt/shirt combo, and my brother and I bought baja hoodies. Definitely worth a visit!!! :) read more

I chose a really pretty piece of pottery to buy. I took it to the counter and the women said she would wrap it up when she got to it. I waited 20 minutes while she inventoried trinkets. When she left the counter I asked her to please ring me up. She exploded with curse words and nastiness. It was so out of context with the situation that was absolutely shocked. I told her I had waited 20 minutes and she threw so many curse words in my direction. I have never seen anything like it. I was so upset that we left. I spent half of the day going to different stores in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge looking at turquoise rings and bracelets. Just happened to come across this store as we were leaving town, and had to stop in for one last look for that perfect ring. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of turquoise jewelry that they had. I found a beautiful ring and bought it! The woman behind the counter was very sweet and patient with me as I looked and tried on many pieces before I made my final decision. After living in the area for just over a year, I was looking forward to checking out this shop. My husband and I, as folks who run a shop at the local amusement park, rarely get a day off together. We finally had one today and decided to check out some local shops. As far as merchandise goes, I was not disappointed. I was very impressed with their stock and planned on coming back to do my holiday shopping, as I found something for every member of the family there. However, as I went to look at their lovely moccasins, I noticed that the sales girls kept giving me funny looks. I paid no mind, as I typically get those for my slightly eccentric appearance (dreadlocks). As I looked at the shoes, my husband, who injured his foot the other day on a hike, decided to sit down for a moment. I turned to see if he was ok, when I noticed a very angry looking woman standing behind us, glaring at us with an ugly scowl on her face. My husband, surprised and in pain, asked for permission to sit. She said nothing. Shocked, hurt, and angry, I decided it was time to go. We left, and as we drove home, the incident made me more and more angry. I've never been treated so poorly in my entire life. My husband decided to call and complain when we got home. I assuming the same woman answered the phone because she refused to let him speak to a manager. She told him that we (CUSTOMERS) LOOK LIKE CRIMINALS and then hung up on him. He called back and (I'm ashamed to admit), yelled at her. I decided the best thing to do, since we're never going to be issued an apology from this HORRID woman, is to warn future customers of the indignity we experienced at this shop. (Incidentally, a couple of teenage boys, one with dreadlocks, left the shop as we were coming in. They looked upset and harassed as well.) read more

Visited this shop while on a trip with my husband. We were both in shock of how RUDE the staff was. We came in over an hour before closing in search of some treasures to bring back as gifts for friends and family. We were not greeted by staff (one woman was leaning for the counter being miserable, another was vacuuming and the other just followed us around the store hawk eying us like we were criminals), I greeted hawk eye woman "hey! How's it going?" Which she answered with an eye roll (she may of seen her brain), a sigh and no words. We were so uncomfortable we decided to leave. I absolutely love this shop. I could go to this shop and no other while in Pigeon Forge. The staff has always been friendly and helpful to me. On 6/8/17 I purchased 4 pairs of moccasins, a bracelet and a couple souvieners. The staff was nothing but friendly, helpful and courteous to me as usual. They have beautiful, REAL items. Its a store full of authentic native american jewelry and items. If you don't atleast stop and check it out I think you would be cheating yourself out of an authentic item experience. I love it and stop every time I go whether or not I plan on making a purchase or not...just because I love it that much. This is one of the first stores you come by on your way into Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. My wife wanted to stop and look around. The store was clean and had a large selection of moccasins and clothes. Although they had some novelty souvenirs, it wasn't the cheap, poorly made stuff like at many places. It is a nice store. They had a number of items we were interested in but decided to hold off on some of it since we still had a few days ahead of us in Gatlinburg. They had a couple of shirts my wife liked and butters/jellies that looked good, but again we held off at first knowing we'll be driving past it on our way back home later that week. However, I went ahead and bought a small, stone dish that my wife really liked. It had a unique pattern to it and didn't want to risk it being gone before we returned. I secretly bought it while she continued to look on the other side of the store. The lady at the register helped me keep it quiet so my wife wouldn't know. After several days in Gatlinburg we stopped by again on our way home and my wife bought the shirt she wanted. The staff both times was very friendly. While on a family get away with my Mom, aunt and sister along with our extended family members we encountered unfortunately a very similar situation. We had been shopping in this store for 15 or so minutes, my mom and I had met to look at the very nice collection of jewelry we commented to ourselves about a woman who seemed to be following us around and watching our every move. A woman darted out unforeseen to us with a raised voice "who?, who is watching you? I quietly said "some lady over there". She let us know it was her job to watch us, that is what she was paid to do and she was the owner and we could just get over it! We were on camera and our every move was being watched. My family was shocked and stunned. Needless to say it went south from there. We left immediately and while walking to our cars she followed us outside to tell us to get off her property! I have never experienced such rudeness and unprofessionalism. I am a business owner and understand situations arise that have to be handled. This was not a situation at all. This lady created a situation out of thin air and should have been embarrassed. Folks beware! read more
