We went in October of 2021, and the young ladies that were running the store were super friendly, offered to personalize ornaments, and were as helpful as they could be. This is an awesome small business --and you should definitely go, enjoy looking around, and supporting a small business. They have a TON of Christmas decorations. Looking for a gift for a teacher? They have ornaments peculiar to teachers. Looking for a gift for a nurse or a doctor? They have ornaments peculiar to medical personnel. A lot of the decorations leave room to personalize them too. My daughter LOVES coming here and is in wonder looking at the decorations and all of the lights. The store is really cute, there is street parking out front, and is in the beautiful town of Dillsboro. It is next door to the Jarrett House (currently undergoing renovation), close to the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad (GSMR) train station, with a lot of other stores, restaurants, and a chocolate store.

What we found is realistically exactly what we expected: Lots of kitschy gifts, some made locally but a lot of it made overseas, all of which was stuff that we did not want or need. It was interesting to go around the building and see some of the things, and to look at the produce that was available, but we found some of the produce sitting on the ground rotting, which was sad and not at all appealing. If you need something to remember your trip to this area, by all means this place will have some sort of trinket that will do the job, but just remember that that is what you are going to get here... trinkets.

During a recent trip to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park we took a visit to Cherokee. A lot of the town was closed but I had a very nice at Nancy's which sells all sorts of Native American crafts. The store is huge and every inch of space from the front porch into the store is crammed with clothing, dream catchers, pottery, baskets, accessories, hats, shoes, blankets, and bags. I will always remember how I attended a Pow Wow in Florida and the Native American speaker urged support for Native American crafts. He said that if you wanted your dream catchers to work, then they had to be authentically made by Native Americans, Walmart wasn't going to cut it. The dream catchers here, created in every hue of the rainbow, are so authentic that they include a card that tells you the name of the Native American artist who made it. The prices were also at least half of what was being charged at the pow wows I have attended. This is the place to shop if you too are in love with Native American crafts.

If I hadn't been flying home, I would of bought more than just the one dish. I'll be back on my next trip for more. If specialty foods are your thing, then you can also find some treats at The Cottage Craftsman. Cheeses, sauces, syrups, and more. I went home with two syrups made in North Carolina - Ginger Peach and Strawberry Lavender. After touring the Biltmore (because I had to see where Richie Rich was filmed - duh), I was regretting not snagging some wine to take home. Luckily for me, while shopping in Bryson City, I found a few different Biltmore wines at The Cottage Craftsman. I bought a few, including their Christmas at Biltmore Limited Edition to bring home. There are also handmade soaps, jewelry, and other unique items to purchase. If you want to snag some pretty awesome gifts for yourself or someone else, then step on in to The Cottage Craftsman. I was able to find some more items elsewhere in town, but if you're not the kind to hunt around, this place may suffice. This place also has a large exhibit of baskets, woodwork, and other things, with pictures of the artists and an explanation of the traditions and techniques used. A must visit after the museum. Note: there was a truck selling "fry bread", typical of AZ and NM, and so we took a chance of some Cherokee style fry bread, as the person selling it called it. It's legit.

The gallery is large and has a variety of items so you can find something you were looking for or just browse and admire the quality work. It is well worth a visit.
