I can…read morehonestly say the doctors and staff of the Emergency room, ICU, and Cardial Step Down Unit saved my life. My understanding is I put the staff trough "Hell" my first day there. I don't remember anything about the first two or three days there. They sedated me. I was their guest from July 4 to July 10th. I can't remeber all the doctors, but I do remember Dr.Patel, Dr.Higgins, and Dr,O. I can honestly say these wonderful people saved my life. The housekeeping staff, nurses, and food service also played a great role in saving my life as well. They all deserve a world of credit. By-the-way people say hospital food is bad...not at Riverview. I and my wife found their food to be quiet good. God Bless the staff there!

They calmed me down, made me feel relaxed, and showed respect. I usually do not trust people's word when they say that I am in good hands, but they were true to their words. They also demonstrated such a comfort, that it warmed my heart... then I knew that I was going to be ok. After my surgery I was still treated well, and they still remained professional. What also calmed me down, was that they were so informative in regards to my condition as well as my procedure. I thank you all as a team, specifically Elizabeth & Leigh L. , Ashley RN, Vegan M. RN., Leigh H, RN, and Dr. Katie Novitski.

I am currently a patient here. Medically speaking, they take care of you, basically. The nursing…read morestaff were attentive to basic needs like meds and snacks and water, and most were nice people. The hospital itself SUUUUCKS! They seem to be trying to cut cost everywhere. They no longer offer the large reusable drinking cups. Only small Styrofoam cups to fill the garbage with. I reused mine. The usual plastic wash basin, wet wipes, toothbrush, tooth paste, vomit tray type comfort items are no longer available even for those unable to use a bath or shower. I had to get someone to get me some from Walmart. NOW, the food! A meal plate has an extreme amount of shrinkage! Lets just say the amount of food would not provide a meal to my 3 or 5 year old much less to an adult. I had to use the vending machine or have food brought in, in order to keep from having hunger pains between meals and over night. Oh and the food flavor was horrible as well. An EKG was done, but it was unnecessary for my problem. The tech said they are performing one on EVERYONE they can. It was so obviously the hospital was padding the bill because I had no complaint or symptom even remotely related to my heart. I had to ask if it was to pad the bill and they could not confirm or deny that fact, just that it was policy, not orders from the treating physician. More proof of padding the bill. But after doing it they agreed it was really unnecessary for my problem. I will be reporting that as a fraud waste and abuse being an unnecessary procedure, Like changing the oil in a car for a flat tire. As far as the bed, all hospital beds suck. But mine felt like I was sleeping on a hard floor. And good news germs, check out the pic, my room was only cleaned every two to three days. That's not much considering all of the foot traffic that comes in and out of the room. I had a universal precautions class when I worked at a hospital. They taught that shoes, hands, and clothing can easily spread all those things in a hospital and compromise patient and staff health and safety. Shoes pick up human waste, blood, chemicals, dirt and yes germs. They fall off at random points and can at times travel quite a distance as well before dropping off. Due to my poor health I'm sure I will be in a hospital in the future, but not this one! It's gone down hill fast. I was discharged with an undetermined diagnosis. NEW I had to go to the hospital again Dec4. I went to Floyd for the same issue and the ER was full but I was only there 2 hours and was discharged with a diagnosis and ortho referral. Thanks Floyd.

As an individual that works with the general public in emergency situations, I've seen and dealt with individuals having a mental health crisis. Recently I had a significant family member taken voluntarily by EMS to Redmond for assistance. Redmond does not have on staff mental health Doctors but utilize phone screenings which do not work as seen first hand by Floyd Medical Center. After numerous calls with the nurses and explaining behaviors being observed of a loved one, they continuous ignored our details and ignored the patient even stating to them they were hearing things that others couldn't. A 10-13 was originally placed and then removed because the phone Doctor couldn't observe any behaviors. (Not sure how you can do that over the phone). Needless to say I was left having to pickup this loved one while still dealing with the mental health issue without any assistance from the Hospital. I say all of this to say you need to stick with what services you excel in which is Pulmonary Heart and leave the mental health services to Floyd which is by far more superior and have onsite staff to address and assist the loved one facing this mental health crisis.

Do you love waiting for at least three hours in an ER bed? Do you love nurses that would rather…read morestare at their phones than actually check on patients, and wait nearly 5 minutes to answer a call button? Would you like to be brought in by an EMT and left in the hallways screaming when only three rooms have patients in them? Would you like to wait those three+ hours and never even see the doctor once? How about have them give you a prescription for something you don't even have just so they can dismiss you and charge insurance. Oh, that prescription will worsen your symptoms, by the way. I have never used this ER, personally. But I have brought several family members and the things I have witnessed are beyond terrible. Dirty floors and walls. Dried blood and pulverized pills on the floor. I watched a woman suffer in the hallways because it took over an hour to clean a room for her. Then they shoved her in the room when she would scream and nobody went to check on her. She hit the call button and a voice came over the speaker asking what was wrong but she couldn't get words out except yelling. The nurse? on the speaker just kept asking over and over what the patient needed. The room was two doors down from the desk. Finally I heard an exasperated sigh, the scooting of a wheeled chair, and the nurse at the door asking the woman if she rang and what she wanted. She told the lady the doctor would be in in a bit, and left her suffering. In the time I sat with family waiting to see a doctor, which never came, I saw two bodies wheeled out the door by the funeral home. Bills were charged to insurance stating that they had seen the doctor, but they 100% did not. The staff threw away my person's samples and when asked to give more- they couldn't. So, my family member was given an incorrect assessment and medicine that aggravated the situation. My other family member went in with a kidney stone. They made him wait for over two hours before taking him to CT. They would not give him any medicine but instead let him suffer for over three hours. Finally, they gave him some heavy medicine (very addictive, probably not the best choice when something could do just as well and not cause possible future problems- but, hey, I'm no doctor). Sent him home to come back if needed. His three+ hours of suffering and only seeing a doctor right before leaving, left a bill of 10K. Uninsured. So, I would say go anywhere else. If you can. These were by far the worst experiences I've ever had in an ER and I have seen some bad ERs!

Under staffed. Patience care in the ER cannot be adequate.read more
