East Texas Regional Airport - Gotta love small airports!

I wrote my original review seven years ago, and I wish I could say things have improved overall --…read morebut unfortunately, it's still a mixed experience. To recap, the airport itself is nice. It's small, easy to get through, looks recently renovated, and the convenience of free parking is a huge perk. Traveling directly into Longview should be a smooth, stress-free experience, and I've always wanted to support our tiny local airport. My original two-star rating came from the TSA staff at the time. They were rude, unprofessional, and patting down nearly every single passenger who wasn't PreCheck. It felt unnecessary in a place with barely any foot traffic. The good news is that TSA has definitely loosened up and is much more friendly now, which I genuinely appreciate. That part has gotten better. Unfortunately, the issues just shifted elsewhere. The past few years, flights have been consistently troublesome -- delays, confusion, and construction (allegedly) that never seems to end. The part that's most disappointing now is the American Airlines staff. The rudeness that used to come from TSA feels like it transferred over to them. No updates on delays, very little friendliness, and an obsession with carry-on bag size that borders on ridiculous. I've watched them shut down sweet older ladies over a bag being an inch too big, while somehow ignoring other passengers breaking the same rules. It's inconsistent and unnecessary. This airport has so much potential. It really could be a great travel hub for East Texas. But after years of trying to make it work, I've pretty much given up and now just fly out of Shreveport or Dallas instead. I truly hope it improves someday, because I want to love this airport... but right now, it's just not it.

Multiple bags were searched to the core and five elderly passengers were extensively patted down. The incredibly stupid agent gave my fiancée a hard time about how her name was listed on her out of state license because mine was listed different. In all actuality they were listed the exact same but she was too dense or too proud to admit her mistake and back off. I saw the last woman through the checkpoint almost miss boarding because TSA just HAD to tear her bag apart. Guess how many items of contraband they found? 0. Absolutely none. These self righteous incompetent asshats accomplished nothing except wasting everyone's time. There is no possible way their conduct would be allowed at an airport that had more than one plane leaving an hour, everyone would miss their flights. Their demeanor, protocol, and self importance were so far removed from the reality of this dinky little country bumpkin airport that the TSA needs to send someone down to review their procedures and implement a wellness check on these delusional employees. If one of you TSA agents is reading this, please understand that you did nothing to save anyone and your understanding of your role and position you play in the security of America is extremely laughable. You are worthless to TSA anywhere else than Tyler Pounds.

The marker is in good condition and reads, "Wisener Field. The age of aviation came to Mineola on July 4, 1917, when a Curtis JN-4D "Jenny" biplane, piloted by a member of the U.S. Army Signal Corps, landed at this field. Called Massengale Meadow at the time, the site's flat terrain proved conductive to the establishment of one of the first airports in Texas. It was used by military aircraft during World War I and was the home of the Royal Flying Circus and other barnstormers in the 1920s. Expanded and improved over the years, it remains a privately-maintained public use airport. (1988)." The wikipedia article says that a number of well-known aviators have flown into Wisener Field. These have included Wiley Post, "Slats" Rogers, Tommy Grace and Fay Lucille Cox. United States Senators Lyndon B. Johnson (later U.S. President), Phil Graham, and Kay Bailey Hutchison have flown into the airport. As it happened, there was a man here who seemed to be thinking about a takeoff and I I watched him go down the runway only to cancel and taxi back to the top.
